Finally figured out how to get up off the floor...took 2 years after 2nd knee replacement!!!

Sunday, April 01, 2012

I can finally kneel a little longer on my knees. I got on the floor for a flexibility test and got on my knees and "walked myself" into an upright position with my hands. I was so amazed...I have done it several times since to make sure I don't forget how I did it. My 2nd knee replacement was 2 years ago and it took this long for me to be able to do this on my own without something to grab onto.

I CONSIDER THIS A MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT.... emoticon

Found some shoes that don't make my feet hurt...but...ouch--the price!

Sunday, April 01, 2012

I ended up with size 11D which is the size I wore when I was 50 lb heavier. Apparently I am carrying a lot of weight in my feet. But the shoes feel like a dream for only....wait for it...$175. But my feet are happy once again. Also ordered a pair of the athletic shoes by the same manufacturer. They are made in Switzerland...They are called Xelero. I perhaps I can walk fast with these on? emoticon

Can't eat until after cholesterol blood test....then shoe shopping...

Saturday, March 31, 2012

First thing I will do when I am done with my physical assessment at the gym is get some "joe" and eat a non-gluten bar.

I did take my prescriptions and vitamins with a sip of water except for the fish oil.

I had to set my alarm for 7:00 this morning or I would still be "sawing wood."

After the gym, I need to shop for some new cross trainer shoes. My 2 pair of Nikis are worn out and my feet have been killing me lately. I went to a regular shoe store and nothing fit so am going to a store that specializes in orthopedic and hard to fit feet. I will be surprised if I can get anything for under $100. I do have my custom orthotics which were ordered by my foot orthopedic specialist a coiuple of years ago. She said they should last a long time and I hope they are not the reason my feet have hurt lately. She diagnosed accessory naviculars in both feet (an extra bone in the arch area). I also have plantar fasciitis which hasn't bothered me until recently. I hope the new shoes help my foot pain. If not, I will have to go see the foot orthopedic doctor again.

The problem I had at the shoe store is that I have a medium forefoot but extra narrow heels. I tried on sizes 11 women (their largest size, but those seemed tight but that is the size I have that wore out (maybe they stretched). I also tried mens size 10 but they were way too big in the heels. Hope I find something today as I just hate having painful feet. It also affects my knees and back when I walk differently because of painful feet. emoticon

Yesterday was my 22nd anniversary with my company...

Friday, March 30, 2012

I "celebrated" by ordering pizza for my hubby and not eating any myself. I bought myself a papaya and am having some this morning instead. (Good choice)...

Today is almost the end of the month. Tomorrow morning have a check up at my gym that is sponsored by my health insurance company. Instead of charging people more if they are unhealthy, they are giving discounts to those who meet healthy criteria. Tomorrow is the pre-check and I have a final check up in September to see if I qualify. I probably won't but am trying anyhow (I am in the obese range for weight and can walk only 2 mph on a treadmill)...but we will see.

Puff has hyperthyroidism which explains his weight loss...

Saturday, March 24, 2012

He used to weigh 18 lbs. He has lost 4 lb in the last 3.5 years and he is 11.8 lbs now. This may explain why he is hungry all the time.

He has a slight heart murmur which can be a side effect of the hyperthyroidism. I am getting an estimate for the 1st month's treatment with radioactive iodine and after that he needs to take thyroid medication for the rest of his life.

Since this may be prohibitively expensive and he is 14 years old, I may have to just let the disease take its course which my husband is not happy about but we have to be realistic. Afterall, living to be 14 years old (for a cat)is quite an accomplishment. My other cat isr 16 years old and she has mild arthritis but otherwise seems to be healthy for an older cat.

I do understand. My 18 year old who has been a diabetic for 5+ years has been having some problems. We were back at the vets today for blood work, etc. In the past month, her tests have added up to over $600 and they still don't know what's going on. She is the most affectionate kitty I have ever had and you can't tell anything is wrong until she starts to vomit again but still doesn't show any signs of illness. Hope things work out for you and your kitty. It's not easy.
