Smoothie with kale & pinapple today...yummy

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

About 5 small kale leaves (got 2 big bunches for $5), 1/2 can of pineapple in juice, 1/2 banana and 1 scoop of soy protein isolate, plus, of course, 2 pkts stevia. It is delicious. Drank half for breakfast and had a bowl of organic ginger oatmeal with soy milk. I will drink the other half with my lunch of small turkey meatloaf sandwich (1 piece of bread).

It is hard to believe having a smoothie almost every day for a week has made me feel better...but I do!!! It is not only the good veggies and fruit but also the extra protein (either a scoop of soy protein or a scoop of egg white powder). Plan to continue. Am considering buying a better blender as some of the fiber is not getting ground up well.

Does anybody have any thoughts on the Healthmaster vs the Ninja blenders?

I haven't explored the world of green smoothies yet. Thanks for the reminder that I can add kale and drink it! emoticon

I love kale, pineapple, mango and coconut water. Yummm...

I have a friend who loves her Ninja but everyone has different needs.

And welcome to the Green Smoothie team. Yvonne/Travelnista has awesome recipes she shares with us. She does raw food as well and those recipes sound good also!

I love the Ninja that my DD got me for my birthday last year. Don't know anything about the Healthmaster though. Sorry. Your smoothie sounds yummy. Wish I could have one with the protein but I am still limited on my protein so will hold off on that until I get clearance.

Your meal sounds healthy and delicious. I have two second hand Vita-mixes. I love them so much, I am afraid to get rid of one in case the other breaks down.

Interesting combination for a smoothie. I can't give
you thoughts on blenders as I have a 36 year old
Sunbeam that works just fine. It was a wedding
present and seems to do the trick. HUGS!

Blogged twice on Saturday and forgot on Sunday....

Monday, February 20, 2012

Did get to swim on Sunday and had a great time in a different pool that was warmer than my usual. I asked when they open in the morning and they said the pool is crowded from 5 am to 6:30 so that will not work out for me. But will figure out a way to go after work once or twice a week.

I have lost a full 5 lbs in the past 2 weeks and am very pleased with that. I still am not logging all of my food but am making better choices and staying away from sugar.

This week on Thursday I will get a food allergy blood test done and also will get my preop exam (upcoming hernia repair with mesh on March 2nd). I am starting to wonder if only 1 week off from work will be enough, but time will tell. I will be sure to ask for some restrictions like no twisting and turning (so scanning in the scanning room would be out) and no lifting more than 5 lb. Hope that will help when I go back to work.

Great loss-5 pounds less is wonderful. Good luck with
the allergy testing and preop. Your doctor will know if
one week off is enough. HUGS!

Evening Blog...

Saturday, February 18, 2012

Couldn't swim as the pool was too cold (have arthritis and fibromyalgia) so I went in the whirlpool and after 10 minutes they shut that down and drained it!.... So I went to the steam room for about 10 minutes and took a long, hot shower. Didn't get much exercise today but got a really good start on my medical reimbursement paperwork. For some reason I do not come up with $3000 for medical expenses (not counting dental, but including prescriptions). I know I paid $3000 out cause I reached the max out of pocket my June 22nd. So now I am trying to get the dental EOBs and bills from the glasses store. I went on line and the EOBs on line say they are no proof of billing!!! Oh, bother!!! emoticon

Saturday...no smoothie today. and my "stupid human trick"

Saturday, February 18, 2012

The omelet had 1 egg plus a scoop of egg white powder, 1 tomato and 1 cup of mushrooms. I cannot eat raw mushroom so browned them in some sesame oil and put the other ingredients (plus a bit of water) in the blender and poured that on top of the mushrooms. Flipping this over was a bit trickty but managed. Then ate this high protein omelet with some chunky salsa with black beans and corn in the ingredients.

I love the green coconuts and went out on the front steps in my nightshirt to use a hatchet to open it and just finished drinking the coconut water and for dessert will have the soft coconut meat (my cat, Poof, will come running when he smells it).

Plan to go to gym at 5:00 today. The pool was closed yesterday so I am really looking forward to my usual half hour swim. (I might add 15 minutes of floating to relax....have you ever seen someone float standing up? One of my stupid human tricks.)

Raw mushrooms- I tried them once , just the thought of where they grow is enough to convince me that cooking them is a very good idea.

That sounds like a good floating trick!!

floating would be something I would do.

yearly checkup at the Sleep Center...

Friday, February 17, 2012

My computer chip will tell the truth, my compliance is about 98% which is a good thing. I hear of so many people who have CPAP machine prescribed and then do not use them. Some of those people even have died because they "didn't like" using the machine. I sleep better but not perfectly. I have been waking up quite often during the night (about every 2 hours) but it is a big improvement over what I used to do and I usually get up pretty easily (of course with alarm). I woke up at 3:00 because I had been in bed for 8 hours at that point. I was in bed about 10 hours and probably got a total of 8 hours of sleep.

I am up early and have to leave soon to get to work at 6:00 today in order to get to the clinic on time.
Hope everyone has a great day!!!

P.S. One time when I woke up a show called Accidental Millionaire was on. It was on Green Planet (?) and was a show about people finding very valuable items either in their attics or on curb or thrift store or even inherited. Very interesting. One lady found a million dollar painting at the curb with the garbage and it turned out it had been stolen about 30 years ago and she got a $10,000 reward from the owner and a finders fee from the auction house (Sotheby's). When she realized it was a stolen painting she got paranoid and was afraid she would go to prison and at first Sotheby's did not believe she even had the painting. That show kept me awake during the night for about 30 minutes and I set my timer on the t.v. to 30 minutes so I would go back to sleep.,,LOL
