5th day back to work after knee replacement, doing well

Saturday, August 01, 2009

I walked on treadmill for 20 minutes before work on Friday and it helped so much with the pain and stiffness I had the other days this week. I also can start work a half hour late 2 days a week to accommodate going to therapy pool before work and I am sure that will even more helpful with the pain and discomfort. I will do that for about a month. At that time I will be going to work full time (8 hours a day). I am anxious to start getting a full pay check again. I am short about $300 a week from my regular take home because of disability payments. It's amazing how we get used to having a certain amount of money and then suddenly getting a reduction and realizing that a lot of things we take for granted are only luxuries and not necessities. I am grateful to have a job and not trying to live on unemployment or less like a few people I know who have lost their jobs. emoticon

    Hi Teddy!
Thank you for the nice comment you left on my blog. I found it interesting that you mentioned addiction. That has always been a fear of mine. I currently only take a pain pill and a muscle relaxer at night to try to get comfortable enough to sleep. I have notice the pain is much better. I go back to work next Wed. I am both looking forward to it and apprehensive. I need the money as well as the social action but am afraid it may be to soon and the pain will get worse.
Good luck to you and I hope things continue to improve for you. emoticon

4th day back to work after knee replacement

Thursday, July 30, 2009

Would like to say it's easy getting back to work but I am not used to sitting in a chair for 4 hours and am having pains. I get up every hour to get the kinks out and am icing intermittently. Not as productive as I would like to be and am taking naps in the afternoon (working half days). Went swimming and on exercise bike at gym twice in the last week. Ideally I should do that at least 3-4 times a week. Hope to slightly change my work hours to accomodate going to therapy pool nearby twice a week. Have continued to "lose the cane" as instructed by physical therapist. I hope to show improvement in motion again this week at my session this afternoon. Moving a little slower yesterday due to discomfort. Have to remember the recovery chart is not a continuous upward climb and have to accept a bit of backsliding now and then. emoticon

Keep up the good work. I am 3weeks post op and will be going back to work on 8/12. I am worried about being able to keep up at work but am going crazy here at home.

Back to work 7 weeks after knee replacement

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

Yesterday was first day back after 8 weeks of being gone (1 week of vacation before surgery). My cubicle was increased in size while I was gone. There was a revamping of the floor plan while I was gone. Couldn't believe how many emails there were from 8 weeks. Lots of work flow changes, too. emoticon

It is amazing how fast things pile up at the work place. That is pretty neat that your cubicle size increased - don't hear of that happening very often. Wishing you a good work week.

Hope everything keeps going well with that new knee. It sure gave my father a new lease on like not having all the pain, etc. emoticon

Back to work 7 weeks after knee replacement

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

Thank goodness I am working only half days for now. Today will be my second day back to work. It was nice to see my old cubicle (they made it bigger while I was gone). Gotta get going so I am not late this morning. First day back went well. emoticon

Wow, they made your cubicle bigger...they must have really wanted you back! Are you glad to be back to work? I am sure it will be a little rough a first, so just take it slow and easy.

6 weeks since knee replacement...doing great

Thursday, July 23, 2009

I am able to slowly use the exercise bike and get my feet all the way around. Though there is still pain with this, it is much improved. I am not using a cane or walker any more and can go up and down stairs normally, though slowly. I am so relieved that my motion is considered "normal" and I quit worrying about getting a frozen knee with scar tissue. I think I will wait until next year to do the other knee. I am feeling mentally better being almost completely off pain killers, even though I wake up every 2 hours during the night from knee pain. However, I realize that when bones are cut it takes quite awhile to be pain free (still have some discomfort from thumb joint replacements 1-1/2 and 2 years ago). I am grateful I have fantastic health insurance and reached my out of pocket maximum after only $500 of the $30,000+ expenses for this knee replacement. Hope my insurance is this good next year, too. emoticon

I am so glad to hear that things are getting back to normal. It does take a long time to get over knee surgery and I for one think you are making remarkable progress. Keep up the good work!
