75 reasons to lose 75 lbs: first 25 today

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

1. To make my new knee replacement last longer (lifetime?)
2. To be able to go up and down stairs with less pain.
3. To save money on fast food (how about spending none on fast foods?).
4. To look better and younger.
5. To get back in those size 14 and 16 size clothes that are too tight (again).
6. To get compliments from co-workers and friends as I get to my goal weight.
7. To live longer than I would at this weight.
8. To be able to walk further and reduce asthma symptoms.
9. To sleep better.
10. To be a good example for my family and friends.
11. To feel more energetic.
12. To buy clothes in the regular stores (again).
13. To look decent in a swimsuit (I did not say sexy or gorgeous here).
14. To be able to walk faster (now top speed is about 2.5 miles per hour on treadmill).
15. To be able to walk down 2 flights of stairs at work in case of a tornado drill or real emergency.
16. To be able to climb up the ladder at the swimming pool instead of using the stairs to get in and out.
17. To be able to walk and carry 10 lbs without needing my old lady shopping cart.
18. To save money on the excess food I have been eating.
19. To have a better attitude and feel happier than I do now.
20. To be glad I can park at the far end of the parking lot.
21. To be able to get in and out of my car without feeling like it is a major production.
22. To find other things to talk about than food and weight issues.
23. To read books about self improvement that don't include weight issues as a main focus.
24. To learn what a "normal" amount of food is and not have to write down what I am eating (this is tedious and a general nuisance).
25. To feel confident and optimistic about life in general.

I like all of those reasons Teddy! The nice thing about lists is you can see the progress as you mark through the ones you accomplish. Keep us informed as you mark them off.

Say something nice to yourself (but not outloud in front of others)

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

Self esteem is a tricky thing. If you look in the mirror and say the things Stewart Smally says it is pretty weird if someone else can hear you. I still remember my stepfather looking in the mirror and saying what a handsome man he was and we all laughed and laughed (behind his back, of course).

Today I am going to say something nice about myself but keep it to myself.... emoticon

My brother used to do that too and we all laughed with him, because, even though he was a real cutie, he was being funny to entertain all of us...actually, he probably still does it. Love yourself... emoticon

You are right, self esteem is a very tricky thing and very fragile. So I agree with you, say something nice about yourself. But think hard about what that something is because you need to repeat it again and again until you are confident of that truth. Then you can move on to the next truth about yourself.

I think I will do that also. Thanks for the inspiration.

Do something nice for someone today and don't get credit..

Monday, August 10, 2009

Do something nice for someone today but see if you can't "get caught." It might bring out the play angel in you instead of the devil. This might also be fun if you are "loving your enemies," meaning doing something nice to someone you have a complaint against. Perhaps they slighted you because they were not feeling loved themselves. Perhaps wondering who is being nice to them will take their mind off feeling that way and in the long run you might make the world a nicer place. I think making the world a nicer place is what we were all sent here for. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I have always loved doing little random acts of kindness for people. They make me feel so good inside. Not letting anyone know is the best part! That little "puzzled" smile on someone's face when they realized someone unknown did something nice for them is priceless!

Great thoughts!!! I have a goal on one of my Teams to do an act of kindness for a stranger 4 times a week. Nothing worse than a "friend" who keeps track of favors, and he brings them up all the time,as If my Husband is suppose to pin a medal on his chest! Great blog!

Finishing 2nd week back to work... doing great

Friday, August 07, 2009

I am making great plans and actually swam 2 times this week before work. I plan to go to the warm therapy pool 2 times a week until the end of the month. I have also decided to rejoin the health club at work which costs only $6 per week and the fee comes right out of my paycheck. I really wanted to rejoin LifeTime Fitness but that would be $85 a month for the club nearest my home, so have decided against that. The main difference is the availability of the swimming pools, at work there are only limited hours 4 days a week and so it is not very convenient and when I return to my regular work schedule I will only be able to use that pool 2 days a week 1-1/2 hours AFTER work so I will not get home from work until after 6:30, being gone from home 12 hours. There are so many machines available and the leg press is one I need for rehabbing my knee after surgery and the hours are 24/7 and so I could go before work or after work to exercise. Since I have a treadmill at home I can concentrate on the other machines which are not usually that busy. Right now I need to get ready for work and am moving a little slowly and don't want to be late...bye for now. emoticon

5th day back to work after knee replacement, doing well

Saturday, August 01, 2009

I walked on treadmill for 20 minutes before work on Friday and it helped so much with the pain and stiffness I had the other days this week. I also can start work a half hour late 2 days a week to accommodate going to therapy pool before work and I am sure that will even more helpful with the pain and discomfort. I will do that for about a month. At that time I will be going to work full time (8 hours a day). I am anxious to start getting a full pay check again. I am short about $300 a week from my regular take home because of disability payments. It's amazing how we get used to having a certain amount of money and then suddenly getting a reduction and realizing that a lot of things we take for granted are only luxuries and not necessities. I am grateful to have a job and not trying to live on unemployment or less like a few people I know who have lost their jobs. emoticon

    Hi Teddy!
Thank you for the nice comment you left on my blog. I found it interesting that you mentioned addiction. That has always been a fear of mine. I currently only take a pain pill and a muscle relaxer at night to try to get comfortable enough to sleep. I have notice the pain is much better. I go back to work next Wed. I am both looking forward to it and apprehensive. I need the money as well as the social action but am afraid it may be to soon and the pain will get worse.
Good luck to you and I hope things continue to improve for you. emoticon
