Hurray!!! Even though it may be dehydration..I will accept a 4+ lb loss since yesterday

Sunday, January 08, 2012

I was really bummed out yesterday when my weight was up to 246.7 and so today I am elated to see a 4+ lb weight loss... It seems to be a rollercoaster with my weight and it probably is the sodium retention thing again.... I did notice my cankles were puffy yesterday and today they are not-so-much.

Because of hand surgery in September and big tonail removal in October I have not worn my compression hosiery. So I need to start doing that again to get those cankles under control. It has been so long since I wore them (30-40 mm/Hg stockings) that I am having trouble finding them.

Losing things seems to be my theme lately. I am glad to report I lost 4 lbs since yesterday!!!

Losing things yesterday but not losing weight!!!

Saturday, January 07, 2012

My weight is up to 246.5 which I am very disturbed about. I was weighed at the general surgeon's office where I went for diagnosis of hernia which I discovered. It is a hernia that needs mesh repair but is not an emergency. The doctor (she) said to go to ER if I get sudden symptoms of incarceration. She also mentioned that being overweight can cause me to have more hernias. And in the next breath she said, "Have you ever considered gastric bypass surgery?" and mentioned she had a new partner who specializes in a new kind of surgery that is less invasive than lap band or the traditional one, which is some sort of sleeve.

I assured her I knew how to lose weight and was successful in losing 100 lb 5 years ago but have since regained about 60 of those pounds. I also told her I was afraid of the complications of the gastric surgery. She told me perhaps I should go back to the program or try another one like Weight Watchers to get going on the weight loss as it is not healthy carrying around the excess weight.

I guess I need to look at this as a wake-up call and if I religiously keep track on SparkPeople and don't lose weight doing that I will find another program that does work for me.

About what I can lose.... lost my shoes while getting ready for work yesterday and was 45 minutes late for work. (They were under the huge grocery box I have my vitamins and prescrtiptions in.) At work I lost every single pen that was on my desk in the morning. About 2:00 I lost my favorite (personally purchased for $15) stapler and spent 15 minutes looking for it thinking someone had stolen it from me. I finally gave up the search and when I went to sit down there it was on my chair and I had forgotten that was where I had put it when I was moving my chair to the scanning room....had a good laugh with several coworkers regarding that one!!!

I wonder if fat cells in the brain can cause mental fog?

Today is the first day of my getting rid of my excess weight (again) and that includes the 60 lb I lost and regained plus another 30 lbs which will put me at a svelte 150 lbs. (approximately)....

My first goal is to lose 10 lbs to get me "down" to 136.

Hope everyone's New Years resolutions are going well. I am starting mine a little late.

Teddy, I love the comment about the fat cells in the brain! When we continue to lose things, a very dear friend calls it a "brain fart". Too bad we can't lose weight the same way only not find it again.

You can do it and you will!

hugs....Mary Anne

Well, you've recognized the problem and are addressing it. That's where it's at. You can do it.

As for the stapler . . . LOL. That's like me looking for my sunglasses and they're on top of my head! **SIGH**

Getting "older" isn't for sissies1! LOLOLOL

2 yearly exams last week turned out well...mammogram and eye exam

Monday, December 12, 2011

The ophthalmologist said I had drusen which are normal for my age (....hmm). I read up on these and they can be precursors of macular degeneration but at this point do not cause any problem with my visual field. He said my exam was about the same as last year so I don't need to worry about any changes. Most of my eye problems appear to be related to the eye muscles due to visual myasthenia gravis for which I take a pill 3 times a day and is keeping it under control. At times my eyes get stressed out and I have to rest my eyes when the computer screen is bothering me. I also need to remember to wear sunglasses when outdoors as UV rays are damaging to the eyes. I had 2 older sisters who developed cataracts and macular degeneration (the wet kind). One sister became legally blind at age 62. The other was about age 68 when she lost most of her vision.

The other exam was mammogram and so far I have not received any news (no news is good news, I hope). Breast cancer does not run in my family. I have a niece who had mastectomies for that at about age 50 and we are pretty certain that was inherited from her father's side of the family.

I will be seeing the neurologist in about a week regarding the visual myasthenia gravis. I am hoping he can let me know whether or not I have any progression of that disease.

Josephine died too young at 52, suddenly of a heart attack.

I will miss her, she was such a delightful person, always up and happy.

It is hard to lose someone you love. Even knowing they are in a better place does not lessen your feelings of loss. Hold on to the memories. God Bless you and her family. Dixie
