The ophthalmologist said I had drusen which are normal for my age (....hmm). I read up on these and they can be precursors of macular degeneration but at this point do not cause any problem with my visual field. He said my exam was about the same as last year so I don't need to worry about any changes. Most of my eye problems appear to be related to the eye muscles due to visual myasthenia gravis for which I take a pill 3 times a day and is keeping it under control. At times my eyes get stressed out and I have to rest my eyes when the computer screen is bothering me. I also need to remember to wear sunglasses when outdoors as UV rays are damaging to the eyes. I had 2 older sisters who developed cataracts and macular degeneration (the wet kind). One sister became legally blind at age 62. The other was about age 68 when she lost most of her vision.
The other exam was mammogram and so far I have not received any news (no news is good news, I hope). Breast cancer does not run in my family. I have a niece who had mastectomies for that at about age 50 and we are pretty certain that was inherited from her father's side of the family.
I will be seeing the neurologist in about a week regarding the visual myasthenia gravis. I am hoping he can let me know whether or not I have any progression of that disease.
