Time for a positive blog...for a change...

No complaining today ....

The weather is perfect for swimming in the outdoor pool at the gym this afternoon and am really looking forward to that.

Have hired a professional lawn service to mow the lawn next week and am anticipating a metamorphosis of the yard.

I lost another 0.6 of a lb at my WW weigh-in today!!! I have lost 14.6 lb since I joined Weight Watchers on April 23rd. I will get a star for another 5 lb increment of weight lost when I reach 15.0 lb lost. I have noticed when I keep track of my food intake I do so much better. I have been snacking on too many Larabars this week and need to cut them in half and only have a half of one for my morning snack. emoticon

Luckily I don't need custom compression hose....

Thursday, August 04, 2011

Even though my insurance company is paying for my hose now, when I retire (someday) I will be responsible for the entire cost as Medicare does not pay for them. The ready made ones are about $120 a pair versus $400 to $500 a pair for custom made.... so it is a big difference. I talked to a lady who wears compression hose (I work with her) and she said she needs about 2 pair per year. I guess when the time comes I will have to put compression hose in my "budget." So it is one more thing Medicare doesn't pay for in addition to glasses, hearing aids and dental work. Hope they don't take more away from us seniors in the future but one never knows what will happen as they try to balance the national budget. emoticon

My husband wears compression socks and they run $70-90 dollars a pair. Once you know what works for you, maybe you can find them cheaper on the internet. Our insurance doesn't cover them now. Sometimes we can get a tax break if we show the prescription from our doctor. I do think they should be covered but I didn't realize that Medicare doesn't cover them either.
I still have that to look forward to... emoticon

Busy, busy, busy...

Tuesday, August 02, 2011

I have take a PTO day today in order to go to 2 doctor appts and possibly a lab draw. I will get measured today for my compression hose (knee highs) and am hoping I get them soon as these wraps are extremely uncomfortable in this hot humid weather we have had for the past month or so (hotter and more humid than usual). The wraps are also very time consuming to put on (don)...about 20-to 30 minutes and take about 15 minutes to take off, so I am looking forward to a more convenient method keeping my ankles and calves from swelling. All the work has been worth it as the swelling has improved and the therapist said the tissue isn't as hard as it was before I started. I certainly can tell it has helped so I am glad I had the therapy.

I also might be able to get into my primary care doctor's office for a thyroid blood check as this hasn't been done since December and was given an increase in medication at that time.

Guess I have my work cut out for me today...will hopefully get to the gym early before the after work busy time.

Hope everybody has a great day

I hope all went well. I just hate having to use PTO for medical stuff, but it has been the story of my life this summer!

Got estimate on minor roof repair...

Friday, July 29, 2011

Insurance estimated $650 for repairs...(loose shingles and some need replacing as they had curled up....

I got an estimate from a roofer on Angie's List for $500 and he seems to be very nice and he can get out next week.

I was getting nervous as my insurance company said I would not be covered if a windstorm or more hail occurred before I got the repair done.

On Saturday I am getting an estimate (not free, but $50) for fixing a floor drain in the basement. About 15 years ago the Roter Rooter people got their machine stuck in the floor drain and in extricating their machine they broke the trap. Apparently the floor has to be jack-hammered around the drain in order to replace the section with the trap in it. I am fearful of the cost but will definitely get more than one estimate on this job. For all these years I have had to pour water down this drain about every 2-4 weeks or the sewer gas comes up.... Hope I am given an estimate that is not too high. I really think this needs to be done. emoticon

Home maintenence always worries me. It is so hard to find someone you trust.

Home maintenance may be costly but it is necessary. Hope the estimates are reasonable for you.

breakfast....

Thursday, July 28, 2011

Just as I was more than half done with my oatmeal...something didn't taste right...

So I didn't finish it and started breakfast over with a peanut butter sandwich.

I got worried as I have had food poisoning several times in my life (bad water, spoiled shrimp at a restaurant and spoiled strawberries at home)...so I hope there was nothing wrong with my oatmeal with milk on it but ...anyhow...

Better safe than sorry. emoticon

So true. When something tastes odd, it is better to eat something else.
