It's one of those

Tuesday, June 07, 2011

The alarm went off at 4:30 and I wish I could sleep another hour....Another dr visit amd on Friday I have a 2nd PT visit for my neck. The first session on the neck traction machine may have actually helped. I am bringing my CPAP machine so hopefully I won't feel dizzy when I finish the second session on the neck machine. If I get a home machine I am going to figure out a way to be more comfortable with the headgear as the back of my head was numb after the trial, due to the hard surface.

I have a job at work today sorting about 3000 (not exaggerating) insurance forms and stuffing them into envelopes. That should keep me out of trouble.

Monday!!!

Another week, some more excitement?

I am glad to have a job even though there are times I find it tiresome and uninspiring. I think I need an "attitude adjustment." At times I wish there was more "challenge" but then again I know I won't have to work forever and BTW those paychecks and benefits are great perks.....

I work with a group of people who actually laugh and seem to enjoy themselves. I have worked in the past where there was very little interaction among the employees and the sound of laughter was rare.

Work is a great blessing. Sounds like you enjoy the environment (people) that you work with...that's great! In this time when so many do not have work, we can all be thankful that we have some work.

Have a great day!

I am working on an 'attitude adjustment' towards my job as well. It is also tiresome and uninspiring and unfortunately the people aren't that great either. But I do have a lot of flexibility as far as what time I get there and what time I leave goes, as well as the ability to work from home in a pinch. I need to focus on that right now and just put a good face on about the rest.

I hope you have some joy and laughter in your day today!

Reached 5% loss on WW this morning in 5 weeks...

Sunday, June 05, 2011

I actually weighed in this morning at 235.9 which is the 5% goal for Weight Watchers (didn't make it yesterday at the meeting, though)....my incentive this week is to keep that off until I get "officially weighed" at my next meeting on June 11.

I found that tracking is the best thing I can do to keep the downward progress with my weight.

I have only been tracking on Weight Watchers website as tracking on both SparkPeople and Weight Watchers is way too much work....and as I have said before theirs is much easier to work with (though there have been some improvements to the SparkPeople tracking lately)....

I am thrilled to finally have some progress in the right direction. emoticon

Digital scale quirk....

Saturday, June 04, 2011

See my evening blog from yesterday regarding why your digital scale "gets stuck" on a certain weight even though you know you lost or gained. emoticon

I thought the grandkids broke my scale right after I bought it. It can vary the weight range by five pounds depending on where I step on it. Like someone from the previous blog mentioned, I step on it several times and choose the weight that either repeats or the average. What a pain. I miss the old weight and balance scales the schools use to have.

Digital scale: An annoying quirk!!!!

Friday, June 03, 2011

I saw a Sparker's comment about her scale being possessed by the devil...I always thought my digital scale was crazy...it would stay the same reading for days when I knew I had lost...

I finally figured out how to get it to stop that...it has to be "reset" and so I picked up an object that weighed 10 lbs and weighed myself and then the weight it was "stuck on" would go away and I then get an accurate reading.

I actually threw away my previous scale cause I thought it was "broken."

I found the following explanation (???) on the internet as follows:

"Try this on your bathroom scales.

Find something that weighs roughly 200g. Weigh yourself then holding the 200g weigh yourself again. You may be surprised that you get the same result. Weighing your self multiple times on a scale with this "feature" and getting exactly the same result could lead you to think that the scale had repeatable results that were accurate when in fact the weight shown each time was only the result of the scales first effort. To test such a scales repeatability it is necessary to give it something to weigh that is not near your weight between the tests or to wait some unknown amount of time. There must be families that wonder why their kids all weigh exactly the same.

My bathroom scale has this quirk, it remembers the last weight and repeats it unless the new weight is at least 250g heavier.

My scale when new gave the same answer each time I weighed myself i.e. the inherent variation was corrected by the quirk described above but as it aged it started to give different answers each time and I had to average the results of about 4 readings. The problem was traced to the top lid flexing and was solved with the addition of some 5 ply. Note there is no display as it talks and that it is not sitting on the carpet as the edges would touch and cause errors.

I hope you found this interesting.

Peter."
