New concern about fingers....purplish color....

Monday, May 16, 2011

So yesterday I noticed three of my fingers were partially purple....I wondered if they had gotten purple stain from food but couldn't remember eating anything like berries that could have done that.

After swimming they were still purple but after whirlpooling they looked better but not back to normal color completely. Then after a couple of hours they were back to the dark purple color.

Then I went on the mad dash to the internet to figure it out....

My diagnosis: Possible result of thoracic outlet syndrome...(I was diagnosed with a slight problem with this about 20 years ago. I guess the next time I see the rheumatologist I will ask him about this, unless it becomes painful or I get more concerned about it. Apparently this can go on for quite awhile before it is concerning. At this point it is just part of three fingers and doesn't hurt but just seems kind of wierd.

I am also going for therapy on my neck on Thursday and will talk to the physical therapist about this as the thoracic outlet is closely related to the neck. There are neck exercises which can help thoracic outlet syndrome, also.

For now, I need to "chill." emoticon

Somehow I missed your blog yesterday. About the fingers -- they should NOT be purple. Particularly with all the health issues you've had, you should find out what's up from the doc rather than the internet. Could be something that needs to be treated pronto, or could be no big deal. How about you call and ask if you should put this off until your next appointment?

Yes, ask at therapy, and follow up with a doctor too.
sounds strange that fingers would just turn purple all of a sudden like that.

Good luck! I would definitely follow up, as you plan to do. I don't think it could hurt to let your Dr. know too.

Today have surpassed 10 lb weight loss in 3 week + 1 day!!!

Sunday, May 15, 2011

I am so glad I have lost another lb since yesterday. I am amazed (though not surprised that I am losing on weight versus my efforts on Spark Peopel). No surprise as I have actually been tracking my food intake which I find much easier on WW than on Spark People. For some reason (perhaps it is the point system?) it much quicker to find the foods I am adding to the tracker. Also, I am not focused on calories but the points which are based on some complicated formula which quickly calculated online (or with a handheld point counter) which takes into account fat, carbs, fiber and protein (the calories are not calculated at all but the proportions of the nutrients goes through a "mysterious" calculation to produce the number of points. When I started my daily regular points were 32 and now are down to 30 due to losing weight. Then there are extra points per week of 45? and then I also get more added points based on exercise. This last week I managed to use them all up plus was minus 3 points but actually did lose weight. It is a mystery to me but it is working!!!!

At first I tried to track on both Sparkpeople and WW but it was waaaay too much time spent on tracking so gave that up ....I do find the carbs, fat, fiber and protein for a few foods on Sparkpeople when I can't read the label (the nutrition labels are often way too small for me to read)....

Finally we are having a sunny day and it will be nice to take a walk and do some yard work. emoticon

Spark is releasing a new and improved nutrition tracker tomorrow. I am hoping it is much quicker to add foods.

Thursday was successful...all plans were done...

Saturday, May 14, 2011

By Friday I was a bit frazzled and didn't go to the gym several days in a row due to too much going on....appts, etc.

So Saturday started out with Weight Watchers at 6:30 a.m. and almost lost 10 lb in 3 weeks...(should make it by next Saturday...only need to lose .2 of a lb)...I was afraid of weighing in cause I went over 3 points on Friday and didn't feel very "skinny" but had lost 3 lb in the past week.

The new WW points are very generous and since I love veggies and fruit I have felt quite full most of the time. I have not found any foods I love which are not allowed (within reason).... I even had one green coconut on Friday with my dinner.

I am so glad I joined WW. And actually think I made friends with one of the other members and gave her a ride home (she had taken the bus there in the rain).

After WW I went grocery shopping and picked up some specials before the prices change tomorrow.

After that hubby and I went to the farmer's market where I picked out 3 more hanging plants for the front of our home which I am so happy with and think they make the front of the house look a lot better (also the big pine tree is gone in the front since Friday and felt we needed something in the empty space. After the farmer's market we went to the gym (I swam for my usual half hour and whirlpooled), then off to Target to pick 2 Rxs and picked up a couple of items at the thrift store. Tried to talk hubby into a haircut but we both decided against it and I actually thought at that point I needed a nap, but instead did some computer work looking at Angie's list for home repairs. Then cooked a delicious dinner with rice noodles, squid, mushrooms and other veggies. I even had homemade frozen yogurt flavored with sugar free ginger syrup that I made about lunch time.

I am finally running out of steam and am sparking before have a long shower, wrapping my legs (for the edema treatment which is actually showing some results...my ankles are softening up and don't seem so hard with the swelling....) and after that I plan to hop into bed (gingerly with 1.5 lbs of leg wrappings, put on the CPAP machine and watch t.v. or listen to musci until I konk out..about 8:30 or 9:00.

Tomorrow I have visions of trimming back my rose bushes and sorting through a bunch of "important papers" that have accumulated by my Lazy Boy chair in the living room. I have several projects related to insurance and health care reimbursement (I find this stuff quite tedious and procrastinate but know it has to be done "sooner or later.")

Working 6-2:30 as I have another lymphedema appt at 3:30, then at 5:30 the goal is to get to the bank for a fixer-upper loan....then quickly home to pay for tree removal...

I don't know how I will manage it all but will try...might need to rearrange the schedule somewhat in order to get it all done.

Git 'er done!!!! emoticon

Results of yesterday's

Wednesday, May 11, 2011

I got everything done I had planned but did not do the leg press....however, did do water aerobics for 45 minutes of the class.

In addition I took hubby and me out for lunch at an Asian restaurant and ate sensibly.

I think yesterday's day off went well. The rheumatologist is sending me for PT for my stiff neck and increased my Celebrex 200 mg once a day to twice a day. He believes most of my pain is due to arthritis but does believe I still have fibromyalgia symptoms, also and will see me back in about 3 MONTHS. He agreed that losing weight will be helpful with all my aches and pains and I told him in 2 weeks I have lost 6 lb which I believe is a great start with my new Weight Watchers program. Good news at the weigh-in----my height was measured at 5' 6" and so I have not shrunk as much as I had thought and this makes my BMI come out a little better!!!! I think I am standing up straighter than on my last measurement which said I was 5-5-1/4..... Did I grow? I actually think I am able to stand up straighter (perhaps I stretched?)....LOL emoticon
