Looking forward to traveling...

When I was at my top weight traveling was not fun. If I were to travel at 280 lb they would probably make me buy two airline seats. I went to Orlando from Minnesota four years ago and did not know they had seatbelt extensions available and was extremely uncomfortable in the regular airline seat. I almost couldn't get it attached. The next time I traveled which was 2 years later at 180 lbs there was no problem.

My weight has been inching up since then and I ran across this picture of my top weight and it has given me new incentive to lose those 40 lbs again and then another 30 lb. I have to set realistic goals and was happy that after only a few days of watching what I am eating more carefully that I have gotten to 218. My first goal is to get to 200 lb by August 1st and that is three months to lose 18 pounds which I am sure I can do.

Since I am having knee and foot pain (among others) I know that swimming and walking in the pool will be helpful...I just have to make myself go to the pool and quit making excuses. My new gym has generous open and lap swimming hours and so I really should have no excuse. The pool is also a warm one that runs about 82-84 degrees and that was one of my excuses this winter when I was a member at Lifetime Fittness (their pool ran about 78).

I also have a treadmill at home and so the rainy spring weather is not a viable excuse, either.

I have been reading inspiring articles on Spark People about making time for exercise and I know I do have the time and certainly have good reasons to get stronger.

I have decided to share the SparkPeople website with people at work who are interested. After showing my picture of before losing weight there were at least 6 people who wondered how I did it. I joined a weight loss program that cost quite a bit but really feel that SparkPeople is a great alternative and it is free. I have handed out the Spark cards and referred 2 members so far. If I get enough people to join from my workplace, I might start a group on the website where we can share ideas.

  emoticon on getting back on track. That is super. I know that exercise can be hard to do. For me it has to be fun so I put on music and dance all about, do jumping jacks to the music, lift weights to it. I probably look really silly but only the cats watch. I do think they might roll over and laugh sometimes though!! LOL. High Five to You for the great job! Hugs. Pat

OMG, I forgot how I looked only 4 years ago, at my top weight of 280. One thing I cannot forget is how much pain carrying all that weight caused. I felt greatly improved when I got down to about 240. At one point I was down to 180 but now am up to 220. After finding this picture in a box while house cleaning, I feel inspired to first get under 200 pounds and set goals of 10 pounds at a time until I am at my ideal weight of 150. I know I can do it and know that I felt much better when I was 40 pounds lighter than I am now. emoticon

First weekend of major cleaning successful....

We have sorted 150 boxes of items I had stored in my office, porch and basement. Probably have 50 more boxes to go. It already is feeling so much better, even though the boxes aren't gone yet, but will be picked up by Tuesday evening. It will be nice to get my basement finally cleaned out and organized.

Sitting at my computer feels great with no danger of avalanches of items impinging on my chair. I will get to play the piano again after I move my keyboard into my office. Have not been able to play since my hand surgery, but main hangup has been that it has been in the living room and husband ALWAYS has the t.v. on. It seems to me that playing the piano used to be therapy for the soul...which I Have done not very much for about 2-3 years now. I am rusty but plan to practice up and start to volunteer at the nursing home again. I used to play 2-3 times a month in the Alzheimer's unit at a nursing home near here. I look forward to doing that again.

With all my old "inventory" dealt with, I will be able to concentrate on higher priced items to sell on Ebay and hopefully get a little income generated. I was a bit disappointed that only about 6 boxes out of the 200 or so, had items worth trying to sell. I had no idea I had so much "dead weight" in the cellar. This has been a real wake up call in many ways.


Spring cleaning...big time...

Rented a 30 cu yard dumpster and hope to get house in order. A lot of old stuff I have been hanging on to which has become worthless as it sits...some of it here for 20 years.... gotta get organized and this is the first step. Daughter is doing alot of the carrying out and I am doing sorting. What a job. This is where major procrastination got me....

  That is super that you are doing some cleaning out of old stuff! Even better that your daughter is there to help you. It is amazing how much stuff we hold on to over the years isn't it.     I hear you on that. I'm doing my Spring cleaning also. We have a room downstairs that you can barely walk thru. I'd love to get a big dumpster and clean it all out. Before I tackle that room and the closets, I'm doing the shampooing, windows, etc. It really makes you feel good when you clean out and organize.

Feet got cramps and are still sore today. I think it might be partly my new shoes. I noticed the right heel slipped a lot and that foot hurt the most. I am going to try different shoes today and see if that helps. I walked over an hour as my speed went down with the discomfort. I used to be able to walk 3 miles per hour (on treadmill) and this was walking outdoors with at least one steep hill. Today I will try the treadmill as we are expecting some not so nice weather.

Hubby and I are going to a classical music concert tonight so will have to put off swimming the third time this week until tomorrow.
