Tuesday morning and back to work after 3-day weekend....

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

I luckily had yesterday off to take hubby to the doctor (doctor cancell all his appointments due to the weather...18 inches of snow at my house).....so I didn't have to make excuses about not going to work in the blizzard conditions. There were about 400 accidents in the previous 2 days in the Metropolitan area (Mpls & St Paul) and about 300 cars fell off the road.....typical for a blizzard in these parts. Glad I am not a statistic.

I haven't peeked outside yet but I believe it did not snow more than an inch or so.........I peeked and it was less than an inch of snow overnight with some minor drifting. When we get major drifting it is hard to know where the edge of the road is and that is one way people fall off the roads. Usually on the highways in the city they land in a snowdrift and there is no major damage.... but out in the suburbs there is a better chance of hitting a tree or falling into a pond or worse. I definitely will drive slowly and leave an extra half hour earlier than my regular time. I only need to go 10 miles but will allow myself a full hour to get there. I can always spark if I get to work too early. (Thank goodness Sparkpeople is not one of the blocked websites!!!)

Snow is just one of the hardships of winter. Spring is coming, right?

My sister lives in Minnesota and used to live in the Mpls/St Paul area, but both her husband and she recently retired....and they are so thankful that they do not have to get out in it. They also moved out to the country so they do not have to worry about shoveling the snow off the sidewalks....or get fined.

Drive carefully and stay warm.

Monday afternoon...got plowed out!!!

Monday, February 21, 2011

I drove 10 miles to my place of work and got my prescription and hubby and I stopped on the way home at a sushi place for lunch. (He hates sushi so he had spring rolls and udon noodles and he was happy with that.) I love sushi and this was a great treat for me which I do only a few times a year.

Hubby ate his lunch keeping a nervous eye on the snow flakes coming down and worrying about getting snowed in again.

The prediction is for only 2 to 3 inches more snow today and tonight. I hope we don't get a rude surprise when I get up in the morning for work tomorrow morning. emoticon

Monday morning: Snowed in....

Monday, February 21, 2011

Called several snow plow companies and haven't had a call back yet. I am supposed to work tomorrow but called my supervisor to tell her we are having trouble finding someone to plow out our driveway. My husband is not able to deal with this much snow (17 inches or so) and the end of the driveway got whammied by the snowplow going by on the street so there is a 4 foot high wall of snow about 5 feet wide at the end. I called supervisor to ask her if she could find someone who could give me a ride to work until we get plowed out.

I also only have 1 day of the medicine for my blurry vision and Target ran out so I ordered it at the pharmacy near my work so I could pick it up tomorrow, but if I can't get there I will just have to wait for that, also.

Next month I will check my supply before I get so close to being out.... we could have another blizzard in March, also.

So right now I am waiting for a call back from my supervisor and a snow removal company. I am thinking of calling another neighbor to see if they have the number for another snow removal company.

This is a heavy, wet snow and I have a 10-lb lifting restriction so I am no help at all. The huge pile at the end of the driveway probably will take a pickup with a blade to move it.

You Sparkers who live in warmer climes can stop gloating now....I would love to move away from the tundra, if only we could sell our house.....sigh... emoticon

We had rain, freezing rain, sleet, more rain, more freezing rain, more sleet, then snow. Otherwise, we would have had 8-10 inches of snow. Sorry!

**SIGH** Ok we didn't have that much snow, but we do have about 10 inches (probably a bit more) and have 1-4 more on the way tonight. UGH UGH Hope you find someone to plow you out.

I set up my pills for a week @ a time, and haven't run out that way. I was in your shoes just once and had to go a few days without my thyroid med. It wasn't pretty, so I learned my lesson on that one, too.

Good luck!

Who moved the quinoa (flakes)....

Sunday, February 20, 2011

Wanted to make a healthy pancake for breakfast and couldn't find the quinoa flakes (I know I saw them a couple of weeks ago)....

So I invented a new pancake: 4 tbs ground flax, 2 tbs soy flour, 1 egg, 1/2 tsp non-sodium baking powder. Fried in 2 tsp olive oil and topped with 1 tsp I can't believe it's not butter and non-sugar syrup (sweetener is Splenda). It was delicious...and now I need to add up the calories and see the nutrition. Will come back and put that in later after I figure it out. It probably was around 350 to 400 calories but everything in it I believe was healthy. (It actually came to 338 calories...13 g carbs, 28 g fat, 18 g protein (!!!) 551 g potassium, 10 g fiber 185 cholesterol (the egg) and 103 g sodium (excellent).....
And it tasted great, also.

Announcement: I lost 2 lb since yesterday when I peaked out at my highest weight in 3 years.....so today I weigh a mere 248 and am determined to track all of my food. I think the only way I am going to be able to do that is to keep a notepad in my purse and write down each item as I plan to eat it. If it seems I might go over my calories for the day I will check it on the nutrition tracker first and adjust before eating it. Even though I did not track my dinner last night it was healthy (simmered cod, steamed broccoli and a salad). Today I will measure the dressing and track as I am sure that might have been a bit excessive. The sodium yesterday, however, was much improved over the day before and I think that accounts for the 2.something lb weight loss.

The answer to Who moved the quinoa (flakes) is me....on top of the fridge...forgot to look there. emoticon

Congrats on the loss! I had to read your blog when I saw the title, because last week I had a quinoa disappearance in my pantry too, and had to substitute brown rice in the dinner I was cooking. I was ready to call Interpol, lol! Same thief?

It was fun to sleep in this a.m.....

Saturday, February 19, 2011

I should have taken my early a.m. meds when I woke up with the alarm (I forgot to turn it off for Saturday).

I fell asleep watching t.v. last night (in bed) without my CPAP machine on and woke up at 1:00 a.m. with the info-mercials....then got 7.5 hours of sleep with the CPAP on.

Today the right eye is the blurry one and am a bit headachy....Plan to take it easy this morning and go to the gym about 4:00 p.m. Tonight we are predicted to have another 10-inch snowfall (we had some really nice weather that melted most of what was on the ground and even can see patches of grass, so everyone is disappointed cause they were hoping spring had come early. emoticon
