Work restrictions are minimal, thank goodness!!!

Tuesday, February 08, 2011

No prolonged grasping or pulling.... That should cover extended writing by hand use of scissors (including running with them...LOL), and picking up many sheets of paper (which I did a lot of yesterday). The other restriction has been in effect over a year now which is lifting no more than 10 lbs.

I am pretty sure this leaves computer work wide open within reason....

My other doctor's request was for accommodation for light sensitivity as my eyes are not totally normal yet. I will need to bring a magnifying glass to read small print as I was not able to decipher the fax confirmations which are a mini-copy of the fax cover sheet....had to borrow a magnifier for that ...I did struggle for 10-15 minutes before I accepted the fact I cannot see tiny print even with my new readers....

Hope today is a little more interesting than yesterday.

Work was wierd today....

Monday, February 07, 2011

Returned to work and stuffed envelopes, and faxed and filed faxes......
There were a lot of envelopes to stuff.....

Tomorrow I hope I have a little more variety in my "chores!!!"

My doctor sent restrictions today that should be passed onto my supervisor tomorrow. I should be able to work on the computer a couple of hours (I hope). emoticon

Info regarding a pen for people with sore hands and/or arthritis Penagain!!!

Sunday, February 06, 2011

It is almost noon and I am still in my nightgown...plan to do a bit of thrift store shopping and then go to the gym before dinner....

Will definitely go to bed early tonight so I can get up at 4:00 or 4:30 in the morning and then back to work after a whole month off due to eyesight problems.

I noticed this morning after a long sleep my vision was blurry but now after taking my medication it is okay again.

I found out about a really cool pen for people with hand problems (I have tendinitis and arthritis in my hands) from the physical therapist. The pen is called Penagain and is available at Office Max for under $5 with 2 refills. I bought one so I have it right away when I return to work. I also found it for sale on Ebay at less than half price if you buy 4 or more of them at a time (including shipping). The manufacturer has a website (most expensive source) where you can go see what they look like. It is an amazing thing for those who have trouble with gripping a pen and writing (which I do) The website is penagain.com.

Slept in though had good intentions...

Saturday, February 05, 2011

Had my alarm set for 5:30, in attempt to get back in the groove for return to work on Monday....however, I turned off the alarm and slept 3 more hours...

I definitely have to go to bed by 9:00 p.m. cause the alarm will go off at 4:30 on Monday morning.

Will get to bed early tonight and will only have music on and no t.v.

I spent a lot of time driving yesterday and by the time I got home my arms, hands, neck and upper back were super uncomfortable....

I need to do my neck and upper back exercises today and continue daily with those to help me out with my return to work. I brought my own chair to my work cube yesterday and am hopeful that will help.

What's wrong with leaving the TV on all night?

I am a terrible "snooze button pusher". I always want to get up at the last possible minute. Even as a child I was never a morning person. Doesn't matter how many hours of sleep I get, I don't want to get up. Also am terrible at leaving the tv on all night long, and it's a habit I need to break. I'm thinking when spring hits I need to do some kind of personal sleep challenge to get up the FIRST time the alarm rings and use the Sleep button on the remote. Good luck with getting rid of the aches and pains and getting back to work. You know what you need to do, and you know you can do it!

1st PT on hands and elbows today....

Friday, February 04, 2011

Therapy at Sister Kenny Institute is across the street from my office this morning. After I have my session of therapy I am going across the street and bringing a decent chair from home as my body is rebelling from the poor chair (my supervisor says it is one size fits all..which it doesn't). I often find myself literally sitting on the edge of the chair because things are not set up right and the chair does not support my back. My own chair has a back roll in the correct place in addition to soft cushioning and a high back to support my upper back. Also, the wheels roll more easily than the chair provided by the company. Hope it helps.

On Monday I have to start work an hour early because I have a check up in the Sleep Clinic at the hospital 2 blocks away and have to bring my CPAP machine in so I decided trying to bring in my chair from home and my CPAP machine (and walker to carry it) would be just too hard to handle.

I am looking forward to getting back into the groove of working again and am gradually getting my schedule back to normal by going to bed earlier and setting my alarm. Monday a.m. it will be set for 4:00 am. so will need to be in bed on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Big difference from the past month when I was staying up late.....late....late...

take care of your hands. It is good to see you getting back to a normal routine. Ask your supervisor maybe they will let you bring your own chair in to work. and thanks for helping me while my internet is down. stay on as co-leader because I'm not the whole way out of the woods yet. emoticon

I hear you about the chair. Mine is at least 20 years old. Everyone is so concerned about keeping their job where I work that no one ever says anything when OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) comes through. Good luck with the PT!!

Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. How did PT go on your hands and elbows?

Take Care.

Sounds like a good idea to take your chair to work because your number one priority is You. I guess these days places just can't allow themselves to help a worker be comfortable ---what a shame. Or else, I just had a good boss as my Dr. had me tell the company I needed a proper, good mast to prohibit cleaning solutions to stay out of my space, and they followd through and actually bought extras in case other workers needed them to.

I've taken my own chair to work on MANY occasions. Most employers aren't into the whole ergonomics thing and then don't understand why their workers are cranky. :D Once I started freelancing, I finally had a boss who understood the value! Good luck.
