Friday was a day that just sped along!!!

Saturday, February 12, 2011

The day just whizzed by and before I knew it, it was time to go home....went to the gym after work and got in some good exercise for my knees which were "freezing up on me."

I slept about 12 hours last night....

I am still trying to "get going this morning" and am going to get another cup of coffee at 11:30 a.m.

Plan to go to the gym later in the afternoon and get on the leg press for some strengthening of those weak knees.

A triple TGIF!!!

Friday, February 11, 2011

Yep, made it through a whole week back at work. Today should be good. I have lots of sorting and mailing to do which is going better now that I am using an alpha-sorter dealie-bob.....

The dark glasses are soothing and give me a surreal feeling.... the visor, well it just works to keep the extra light outa my eyes. Apparently the Mestinon causes light sensitivity. Without the sunglasses my pupils are like pinholes....

Have to remember to use my regular sunglasses when walking around the office as the computer glasses put only things at 16 inches in focus.

I am up early enough to pack myself a decent lunch (yesterday I broke down and bought a roll-up veggie sandwich which seemed to be loaded down with some ranch dressing.....

TGIF! TGIF! TGIF!

Glad your first week back went well!

How are you doing with switching the glasses? I got two pairs of glasses last month, instead of bifocals, and I am having a terrible time getting used to them. I knew the computer glasses would only work close up, but I did not realize I would be practically blind in them to walk around!

TGIF indeed!!! You made it through the 1st week back!!! Yah YOU!!! emoticon
Don't you hate it when they take something healthy like a vege rollup and load it down with unnecessary gunk. I've been trying to make my lunches the night before so I can sleep an extra 10 minutes. emoticon

Thursday...I can make it through Friday.....piece of cake!!!!

Easy as pie, smooth as silk (soy milk?).....

Anyhoo, I have been up an hour already (since 4:30). I was a good girl and got to bed at 8:30....so got in 8 hours of sleep....

I was worried I was going to have to find a different job, perhaps outside of my present employer (I have been there almost 21 years) as I have had a lot of problems trying to do my job duties. When I started this job I was told I would be on the computer only 4 hours a day which I knew (and know) I could handle. However, for the past year or more I have been on the computer close to 7.5 hours a day which is literally 100% of my time. This week so far I have been doing other things and having some variety which is do-able and I am feeling less afraid of my future with the company. I have been given the job of faxing and sorting those faxes with the confirmations and filing them which gives me some time walking around and standing as opposed to being chained to my desk. I also am doing other sorting and mailing of forms to insurance companies in addition to some computer and scanning work which can be broken up with the other duties.

I am glad to still have a job and am surprised by the fast response I have gotten regarding my need to do other things than sit at the computer hour after hour. This surprises me as when I was a medical transcriptionist there was absolutely nothing else to do but sit there and transcribe all day. When I had restrictions on that job I had to be placed in the volunteer department greeting visitors and answering the phone but at my present location there are no jobs like that.

So I am happy with the way things are working out for me and hope they continue to go this way. I feel a lot less stressed. Today I am going to bring ice for my elbows so I can ice them as I was instructed to by physical therapy. This involves actually numbing the elbows with ice directly on the elbows until they are totally numb. I can do it before and after work and once in the middle of my work day at lunch time.

The dark glasses really did help with eye fatigue and light sensitivity so I am glad I purchased those... I got the America's Best $69.95 for 2 pair special but because I got dark glasses I had to add $45.00 for extra fees, but still was much better deal than my last prescription glasses I bought about a year ago. I also will be able to get money out of my medical reimbursement funds to pay myself back for those.

So it's Thursday already and I feel that going back to work is "a good thing."

I'm glad they have been reponsive to your needs. It sounds like you work in the medical world as do I. Sometimes it seems as if medical facilities are less responsive to their employees needs than other companies and have more restrictions.

It is hump day already....

Wednesday, February 09, 2011

Can't believe I am on the third day back to work after a month leave of absence. I absolutely cannot forget any of the Mestinon pills as my vision was not good yesterday morning and the day before I took only 2 instead of 3. The afternoon pill is hard to remember but I think it will get easier to remember especially when I get blurry vision when I forget it.

Work is still not "normal" but I was hoping for a change in activities as sitting at the computer 8 hours a day is hard on my whole body and I was on the computer less than 2 hours yesterday.

I am getting "work-hardened" gradually which I appreciate.

The forms and formalities around medical issues is a bit of a problem especially when the insurance company becomes involved and so I am still waiting for approval for theapy for elbow tendinitis which is a new work 'injury" (actually related to my work, sitting at the computer typing 7.5 hours a day). For now, I am icing my elbows 3 times a day and sleeping with splints on my hands for the tendinitis in the fingers.

Hope everyone has a great day...today is my first day using my new tinted computer glasses. I got a little razzing regarding my visor (one lady thought I looked like a card dealer and said "hit me," and a guy said I looked like a "bookie.") I don't mind a bit cause I know it looks a little strange to wear a visor indoors in the winter time. I noticed that not only the light from the overhead flourescents and my computer were bright but also the 12-foot tall windows I face were a problem in the afternoon...so am glad my dark glasses have arrived.... now I hope they aren't too dark....

Work restrictions are minimal, thank goodness!!!

Tuesday, February 08, 2011

No prolonged grasping or pulling.... That should cover extended writing by hand use of scissors (including running with them...LOL), and picking up many sheets of paper (which I did a lot of yesterday). The other restriction has been in effect over a year now which is lifting no more than 10 lbs.

I am pretty sure this leaves computer work wide open within reason....

My other doctor's request was for accommodation for light sensitivity as my eyes are not totally normal yet. I will need to bring a magnifying glass to read small print as I was not able to decipher the fax confirmations which are a mini-copy of the fax cover sheet....had to borrow a magnifier for that ...I did struggle for 10-15 minutes before I accepted the fact I cannot see tiny print even with my new readers....

Hope today is a little more interesting than yesterday.
