Oh, boy!!! 2 new pills...more blurry vision....

Saturday, January 22, 2011

I am barely able to see to type this blog this a.m. I checked out fine at the internist and apparently I have no ear infection or sinus infection (which would be an easy fix).

The neurologist prescribed 2 new pills. A muscle relaxant I take at night has caused the double vision to be worse this morning) and another pill which is supposed to help with muscles of the eye (which has not kicked in yet......).....

Of course, I had to read all I could get my hnds on regarding these drugs (last night) and noted that the muscle relaxant is used for spasms and is a common drug for people with MS. My headache seems better this morning (I also have TMJ which could cause muscle spasms in the jaw)....

The other pill is used for symptoms of myasthenia gravis to help with eye muscle control. At the moment the double vision is quite severe (I am proofing this at a higher magnification)... I was surprised to see that myasthenia gravis is one of the conditions treated by this drug as I was told the blood tests for myasthenia gravis were negative.

I am sure it will take awhile to get used to these medications but if I were at work this morning I would be in big trouble ..... emoticon

Patience is not one of my long suites....I probably won't be able to go back to work until I get used to these medicines....definitely would not be able to work on the computer without some kind of adjustments (like making the letters super huge)....

Seeing my internist this afternoon....

Friday, January 21, 2011

Yesterday I called the neurologist....again!!! and he did not call...again....

This morning I felt pretty good when I woke up....then I ate breakfast and made a few phone calls and the sinus/ear/jaw pains started up again.....

I decided to call my internist to have her rule out sinus/ear/jaw problems.... Hopefully, if she doesn't know what to do she can refer me to an ENT or jaw specialist.

I really am very uncomfortable with ongoing head symptoms (but the vision is back to normal) and the neck/back are very sore. PT gave me exercises to work on strengthening and range of motion. The physical therapist also thought an ergonomic evaluation when I go back to work might be helpful. I do know that my chair doesn't fit me correctly and in the past I had one with a high back and I will also request that.

I thought I might be able to return to work next Monday but I don't think I can work with the ongoing headache and neckache.....

Update later...

Aches go on....

Thursday, January 20, 2011

Multiple aches...possibly getting flare up of fibromyalgia.... I tried an Imitrex 2 hours ago and I have not noticed much improvement in the head pains. So I am doubting the headache part of this is caused by migraine.....

I have another call into the neurologist asking what to do: Come back to see him, go see my internist or go see an ENT (ear, nose, throat doctor). Yesterday which was the last day of the 5-day prednisone burst I was feeling pretty good and my vision is better (can read the road signs and the computer)....so until this morning I thought perhaps I could go back to work possibly next Monday. However, I need to feel better than I do today in order to sit 8 hours in front of a computer again.

So, here I sit, waiting to hear what I should do next.... emoticon

Hope you can get some proper pain relief soon, and that your vision stays good!

Take care, and make sure you are definitely up to a full day at work before you go back.

These other people seem to be sending you drinks so here is one that may have a better effect on aches--this is only due to personal experience I'm not condoning excessive drinking except under the supervision of experienced drunks or Steeler Playoff games.

Back to dentist...

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

I had to go back to the dentist and get a filling on a crowned tooth (as a temporary fix). Dentist actually talked about replacing the whole bridge which I strongly objected to. Hopefully this bridge will hold up for another year or so.

I am home waiting for the novocaine to wear off so I can have some lunch before I go to physical therapy for my neck.

My vision seems normal today but still have headache which I am beginning to think is a sinus infection. I took the last prednisone pill today and plan to see my internist soon before I go back to work. Hopefully, my vision will remain normal and the headache is getting to be a tiresome thing. I still am waiting for the results on the last blood test regarding myasthenia gravis rule out.....

I took 2000 mg of Amoxicillin yesterday and today for premedication for my dentist visits due to 2 knee replacements. Perhaps this will help fend off any sinus infection I have, but seeing the internist will finally set my mind at ease (I hope).

The knee replacements make me more likely to get an infection from dental procedures. Apparently it is called "seeding" and if an infection gets in the blood stream it will make a beeline for the knee replacement(s) and if the knee were to become infected the implants might need to be removed which would be quite an ordeal to go through....so the use of antibiotics is prophylactic, meaning it is a preventative medication to avoid the problem if at all possible. emoticon

I have to take 2000 mgms of antibiotic before dantal visits too. Hope it helps with the sinus infection, time enough already with the feeling not up to par---hope your doing better within a day or two.

Seeing dentist today....

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

My daughter calls my dentist, "The Salesman of Crowns." I do believe if he says I need a crown today it will be my last visit with him.

I am going in for a routine cleaning and exam. A year ago I lost two front teeth to an long standing (starting about 40 years ago) gum problem with bone loss and had to get a bridge done that wiped out my dental benefits and then a lot more. That was followed by a tooth that died that required a root canal the next month that was 100% to be paid by me.

I did not have enough money in my medical reimbursement account and had to borrow money for my teeth. In addition to that I spent another $2,000 out of pocket on nondental medical expenses. So this year, I said I will put "extra money" in the medical reimbursement account and put in $4000. I called the health insurance provider regarding one of my upcoming doctor visits and found out my out of pocket is up to $3000!!!!!!!! (I have already
spent $700 of that just in January.) Well, guess they won't make money on me again....

I broke four front teeth out on a bicycle when I was 10.
The nicest thing is they have never hurt since but all of the other teeth ave been drilled and filled . I wont go to the dentist unless something really really hurts.

So sorry! I finally got so tired of the whole mess that I had all my teeth pulled and got dentures. But, quite honestly, those teeth couldn't be fixed anyway.
Hoping for much better news tomorrow.
