Aches go on....

Thursday, January 20, 2011

Multiple aches...possibly getting flare up of fibromyalgia.... I tried an Imitrex 2 hours ago and I have not noticed much improvement in the head pains. So I am doubting the headache part of this is caused by migraine.....

I have another call into the neurologist asking what to do: Come back to see him, go see my internist or go see an ENT (ear, nose, throat doctor). Yesterday which was the last day of the 5-day prednisone burst I was feeling pretty good and my vision is better (can read the road signs and the computer)....so until this morning I thought perhaps I could go back to work possibly next Monday. However, I need to feel better than I do today in order to sit 8 hours in front of a computer again.

So, here I sit, waiting to hear what I should do next.... emoticon

Hope you can get some proper pain relief soon, and that your vision stays good!

Take care, and make sure you are definitely up to a full day at work before you go back.

These other people seem to be sending you drinks so here is one that may have a better effect on aches--this is only due to personal experience I'm not condoning excessive drinking except under the supervision of experienced drunks or Steeler Playoff games.

Back to dentist...

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

I had to go back to the dentist and get a filling on a crowned tooth (as a temporary fix). Dentist actually talked about replacing the whole bridge which I strongly objected to. Hopefully this bridge will hold up for another year or so.

I am home waiting for the novocaine to wear off so I can have some lunch before I go to physical therapy for my neck.

My vision seems normal today but still have headache which I am beginning to think is a sinus infection. I took the last prednisone pill today and plan to see my internist soon before I go back to work. Hopefully, my vision will remain normal and the headache is getting to be a tiresome thing. I still am waiting for the results on the last blood test regarding myasthenia gravis rule out.....

I took 2000 mg of Amoxicillin yesterday and today for premedication for my dentist visits due to 2 knee replacements. Perhaps this will help fend off any sinus infection I have, but seeing the internist will finally set my mind at ease (I hope).

The knee replacements make me more likely to get an infection from dental procedures. Apparently it is called "seeding" and if an infection gets in the blood stream it will make a beeline for the knee replacement(s) and if the knee were to become infected the implants might need to be removed which would be quite an ordeal to go through....so the use of antibiotics is prophylactic, meaning it is a preventative medication to avoid the problem if at all possible. emoticon

I have to take 2000 mgms of antibiotic before dantal visits too. Hope it helps with the sinus infection, time enough already with the feeling not up to par---hope your doing better within a day or two.

Seeing dentist today....

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

My daughter calls my dentist, "The Salesman of Crowns." I do believe if he says I need a crown today it will be my last visit with him.

I am going in for a routine cleaning and exam. A year ago I lost two front teeth to an long standing (starting about 40 years ago) gum problem with bone loss and had to get a bridge done that wiped out my dental benefits and then a lot more. That was followed by a tooth that died that required a root canal the next month that was 100% to be paid by me.

I did not have enough money in my medical reimbursement account and had to borrow money for my teeth. In addition to that I spent another $2,000 out of pocket on nondental medical expenses. So this year, I said I will put "extra money" in the medical reimbursement account and put in $4000. I called the health insurance provider regarding one of my upcoming doctor visits and found out my out of pocket is up to $3000!!!!!!!! (I have already
spent $700 of that just in January.) Well, guess they won't make money on me again....

I broke four front teeth out on a bicycle when I was 10.
The nicest thing is they have never hurt since but all of the other teeth ave been drilled and filled . I wont go to the dentist unless something really really hurts.

So sorry! I finally got so tired of the whole mess that I had all my teeth pulled and got dentures. But, quite honestly, those teeth couldn't be fixed anyway.
Hoping for much better news tomorrow.

Odd schedule...up later and sleeping later....

Monday, January 17, 2011

Since I don't have to go to work for awhile (on medical leave) I have changed my usual habit of going to bed early and getting up at 5:00. The past week or so I have started staying up until midnight or so and sleeping in to 8:00 or even 9:00 in the morning.

I plan to go back to work in about a week or so and need to gradually get back to my regular habits of going to bed around 9 or 9:30 and getting up at 5:00. It sure has been easy to stay up late when I know the alarm isn't set to go off before sunrise.

So here I am writing Monday's blog at midnight....

Off to bed, goodnight....

Since I have retired I am up later and later and have all night marathons. Can't seem to get a regular schedule going. I hate going to bed and tossing and turning for hours. Any more I just get up and stay up. Maybe it will be better in the Spring when I am out in the yard working and will need to be up early.
Hope your body readjusts quickly when you return to work. emoticon

emoticon I think that our disturbed sleep has something to do with the fatigue, the medicines and the general messed up health. I have become more of a night owl since being off work on medical leave too.

Enjoying perusing the Spark recipes and adding some to my online cookbooks

Sunday, January 16, 2011

I have made my spark cookbooks public, so if you care to see some of the recipes I have tried (and some I am planning to try) go either to the bottom of my spark page and click favorites and then go to the bottom of the favorites list where my online "cookbooks" are located or go directly to sparkrecipes.com and find my cookbooks there. There are so many good ideas on sparkrecipes.com...... I like to look in my cupboards and then search for recipes using things I bought awhile ago so I won't have to throw them out eventually.

This morning I am going to make the almonds coated in cocoa. I will use stevia instead of sugar, organic cocoa and omit the salt. A serving is 1 ounce and so will have to put servings into little baggies so I don't overdo.

That sounds good. I have bought Cocoa almonds from the store and they help when I need chocolate.

I'm kinda jealous that you can make small packs and then use them as intended. I'll get there someday.

Your cookbook project sounds emoticon.

Sparks recipes are so easy to use with the Nutrition Tracker. When I put one of my own recipes in, the numbers are all computed for me. I love that!

That is a very good idea. When I am out during the day and will miss my lunch, I usually bag up some almonds, dried cranberries, dried cherries and some cereal and dip into that. That way I never have to go into a fast food place.

I absolutely LOVE spark recipes...not only can I print them out, but I can "save" them...they go to my daily nutrition tracking, and I can simply add an entire recipe to my daily totals. I love that!
