Day 3 of prednisone burst...

Sunday, January 16, 2011

Not a lot of change in symptoms, though I am feeling less anxious since I heard of negative results from echocardiogram, MRI, MRA and one blood test. There is only one unreported blood test pending.

In general, I am feeling a bit worn out from worrying so much.

This morning my hubby is not feeling well and he claims he didn't sleep at all, so he is up now about every 15 minutes complaining and worrying about polyuria. If this continues I will have to call his doctor to see if they can see him to rule out UTI (urinary tract infection) or some other problem.

I would just like to take it easy, but as they say, "There's no rest for the wicked." However, I don't recall being particularly wicked....perhaps my sins are from a past life.....

A bit disappointed as vision is blurry this morning....was better yesterday in the afternoon

Saturday, January 15, 2011

I was able to read the road signs yesterday afternoon, but have not been out yet. I am noticing difficulty focusing on the computer and probably won't be on much until later in the day and hope the blurriness improves after I am up awhile.

One thing that may be irritating my eyes is the night mask I have been wearing to keep air leaks from the CPAP off my eyes. I did loosen it quite a bit in the middle of the night.

I took my morning dose of prednisone and since I still have a headache I am taking another Imetrex (a migraine medication). Hopefully, that will help. emoticon

Thanks for all my spark friends for kind words during this frustrating problem.

Thanks for asking about the type of blurry vision I am having. I have had the scintillating scotomata (flashing lights, etc) in the past and usually when I get that I do not have a headache but just need to rest my eyes an hour or two and it goes away.

The blurriness I have been having for the past two weeks is not like that at all. It is definite blurriness and sometimes there is double vision with overlapping of images noticed mostly on lettering on highway signs and reading small print on the computer. Today it seems to be better than yesterday.

I once had one-eyed blurriness after waking up from a nap and drove to the ER as I was afraid of a stroke. The blurriness was quite pronounced. I saw a retinal specialist the next day and the blurriness was improving. He asked if I had a headache...which actually had just started about the time I got to his office. His diagnosis was migraine prodrome.

This time I woke up in the morning on Dec 27th with a neckache, headache and blurry vision which pretty much has continued with the blurriness changing throughout the day. The headache also changes from barely there to throbbing.

According to what the neurologist has prescribed (Imitrex and a prednisone burst, Medrol Dosepak) it is probably related to migraine and/or an infection of sinuses, ears or somewhere in the head. (I have not seen the diagnosis as of yet but will be talking to my company's human resources (HR) tomorrow to see what the doctor wrote for my diagnosis on the medical leave of absence which he wrote that I could be off until January 30th, a total of 3 weeks.)..... Anyhow, thanks for asking..hope this long explanation has not bored you.... emoticon

Teddy, what kind of blurriness are you experiencing? Is it the flashing lights from the aura migraines or something else?

I hope the migraine medication helps - it sounds like MCSS62's idea could be useful too...thank goodness for modern technology being able to help people share great ideas and help each other in this way!

Take it easy and just concentrate on looking after yourself...blessings and hugs, Nattacia

Finally....results of tests are negative....

Friday, January 14, 2011

I did talk to my internist today who said she looked at the echo report and said my leg swelling is NOT related to cardiac dysfunction and things look good. Nothing worrisome there.

I did not talk to the neurologist but told his nurse my headache was worse with a pretty severe earache.

She called back and said the tests were all negative and the doctor ordered a Medrol Dosepak (prednisone burst, probably for a sinus or other infection) and Imitrex which is a standard prescription for migraine. She said since I have had this headache and blurry vision for so long it may take awhile to get over it. Therefore, he signed for a possible medical leave through Jan 30th if I need that long off. I know for sure next Monday is probably not a possibility as the headache is not gone but the vision part of the migraine is improved quite a bit (I can now read the road signs again, after only a few pills about noon today)..... The prednisone burst is a 5-day package of pills. I have not heard the exact diagnosis, but for sure part of the problem was a severe migraine that just didn't go away. I got quite upset about the whole ordeal because I had never had a migraine that lasted more than 3 days in the past.

The good news, the echocardiogram, MRI and MRA of the head were all normal. One blood test came back negative and the doctor expects the one outstanding blood test probably will be negative, also.

I have had a great sense of relief...just hope I can back to work soon. emoticon

I'm glad to hear the tests came back with good results. That must take a load of stress off. I have always suffered from headaches and always been afraid of getting a scan of my head.

Glad all the test results are good. I cannot imagine having a migraine for even 3 days, never mind weeks. Thankfully mine always resolved in a day. Hope the prednisone does the trick!

So glad you finally got the nesults from your tests. Hopefully, the medicxations will take care of the problem---glad to hear your vision has improved already. I don't know if you have taken prenisone before but it can make you feel hungery and also many people don't sleep well while on it. Hoping everything is under control and fine when your done taking the medication.

Still no news...on tests...

Friday, January 14, 2011

I still have a headache (over 2 weeks now) and blurry vision...which got better temporarily and now is back to troublesome.

I called the internist's office and she is in today and I asked if she could please call me about leave of absence and the echocardiogram results. (On the echo report it said it was a fair study.....the rest I don't know how to interpret...)

I will call the neurologist's office again and hope the final blood work is back....he has not called me yet...

So...no news is good news...

Thursday, January 13, 2011

My daughter said if I had something serious they probably would let me know the results right away.

I guess I agree...but would still like to know if anything showed up.

Perhaps the doctor is waiting for the last blood test to come back.....

It was hinted that the last blood test could take another week or more!!!

I did not hear from internist nor neurologist today, though their secretaries both said my test results were on the desks of the doctors....

emoticon

P.S. I talked to Drs offices today. Internist is in this afternoon (for echocardiogram results). The neurologist is in today but the blood test for myasthenia gravis is still not back. It could take another week....
