walked 3 miles on Sunday..

Took advantage of the beautiful weather on Sunday and walked around Lake Harriet (about 2.7 miles). It took me a whole hour (rested half way around) but felt really good afterward. Still looking for new shoes but remembered I have some Z-coils in my closet....was reminded by another person's blog about those great shoes. Hope I can find them as I recall they were really comfortable.

Sounds like a great way to spend some time. I think walking near water is very soothing to the soul. It was georgous here for the last two days also. I walked to the park with my granddaughter both days. We walk beside the creek most of the way. The sun felt so good on these old bones.

Walked 2 miles yesterday, again...yeah!!!

On Sunday and Saturday this last weekend I walked 2 miles a day, first outside to go for a haircut, then indoors at the gym on the treadmill. I found myself wanting to stop after the first 20 minutes on the treadmill, but outdoors I had a purpose and a destination. The treadmill is sort of like the hamster in the wheel. Unless I have a movie to watch or good music (something I pick out myself) I find the treadmill extremely boring and I get focused on reading the numbers as they click up..... I definitely am going to walk outdoors more and thank goodness the weather is getting better, finally. Tomorrow we are supposed to have a mixed rain and snow storm, but after that the weather looks pretty good. Had a pretty decent breakfast and am going to remember my thermos of coffee today (left it in the car once last week). Do you think losing weight and getting in shape helps your memory? emoticon

And yes, I think losing weight helps your brain function. You're more focused, so I think you're likely to remember more.

Walked 2 miles yesterday...do feel better

I am going to try to walk 2 miles a day every day. I really have no excuse. I have a treadmill, the city built a 1 mile blacktopped (soft) sidewalk on the frontage road by my house last fall so it is safe to walk (at least in the daytime) and my trial walk yesterday did not make my feet hurt very much. (I am wearing foot/ankle soft splints for a foot bone problem.) Mentally I feel more optimistic probably because the walk helped produce some endorphins. l walked to get my hair cut yesterday. Today I am going to mail a package at the 24/7 drop box at the post office. That walk is 2 miles there and 2 miles back. I can sit on a park bench when I get there to rest up before I start back. I figure it will take about 1-1/2 hours at a little under 3 miles an hour. A few years ago I couldn't even walk a block so I am not going to "dis" myself for not walking faster. This afternoon I will whirlpool and swim at the gym where my membership is going to run out on the 31st of this month. I just have to "keep on movin'." emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

He had a job (only 9 hours a week) and then was cut down to 3 hours a week, so he quit and starting applying for jobs and going to job fairs again. I am having a problem being optimistic about his finding a job (he is 73 now). He keeps telling me to be positive, but I am trying to be realistic and plan ahead so we don't all of a sudden have zero money in the bank and lose our house. He still thinks everything will be okay. I am not so sure...I think I will go exercise at the gym to get out of the house this afternoon. That should at least make me feel better than sitting around and worrying.

Since no one seems to know what causes pancreatic tumors or growths, I have decided just to try to live in a healthy manner, starting with getting lots of sleep each night instead of running myself ragged. I read that 9 hours of sleep a night is better than 7 or 8 and will start with that. I also have read that all the chemicals in our food, especially meat is very bad and a risk factor for pancreatic cancer. So I plan to go back to eating fish, eggs and chicken instead of red meat and absolutely nothing with nitrites like bacon or sausage. I also am swearing off fast food restaurants as I never feel quite well after eating there. I don't know if I can afford to eat all organic, but will try to gradually change over to organic foods and not eat anything that is labeled with chemical sounding ingredients. Hopefully when I get my endoscopy next year I wil not have any increase in size of the cysts or tumors on the pancreas and no new ones. Drinking lots of non-chlorinated water and exercising are two more healthy things I am going to increase to get healthier.

    Hi there, Its been a while for me, I went on a cruise and got some time with my husband but gained a few pounds again, i have to get back on track. Glad to hear your growth is benign...
I'm also glad to hear your Hubby got a job too, gets him out of your hair...Have a Happy Valentines Day... emoticon
