It's Wednesday!!! and a 4 day weekend coming up...

Wednesday, November 24, 2010

One of our supervisors is bringing in Pannera bagels (high carb and huge!!!) supposedly to get us in condition for the feast...???? I will try to eat half a bagel and bring my own coffee (cheaper and better than work place coffee or Superamerica).

My breakfast this morning isn't too healthy but I added 1/2 tb of soy protein to my blueberry acai Yoplait yogurt and had a whole avocado and the part that was way out of line was a 300-calorie freshly baked soft pretzel...perhaps I should pass on those bagels at work completely.

I just got a weather update on the computer and freezing rain is supposed to start about 7:00 a.m. (an hour from now) about the time I get to work so I think I'd better leave pretty soon so I get to work 15 to 20 minutes early. (I hope the prediction is accurate or I may be driving through freezing rain (how this could happen is a mystery to me as the temperature is 22 above and I would think any precipitation would be sleet or snow)....anyhow....hope everybody has a great day today!!!! emoticon

Carbs ar my big downfall. I hope you can resist at least half of the above mentioned. Hope the ice storm doesn't cause you a bad trip home this evening. Have a great Thanksgiving. Be safe driving.

Tuesday...turned in the SAO2 machine...

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

I woke up suddenly last night at 2:30 a.m. and read the meter at 88%. I was surprised it could be under 90% while I was on the CPAP machine. The technician said it probably was lower than that just before I woke up.

I just have to wait for the doctor to read the report of my test and see what she decides to do. I am a bit concerned that I might need a BiPAP machine instead of a CPAP.

I am so glad I didn't try to self medicate with over the counter sleep medicine since apparently my COPD is worse than I ever imagined. My internist really did not seem concerned about the COPD and really did not have any testing done. I advocated for myself to get the sleep study and the CPAP machine and was hoping it would be the panacea for my sleep problem. Now I just have to be a patient patient and see what the next step is.

I do trust the sleep specialist as she is a very reputable lung specialist so I am sure she will know what to do with the information obtained from the SAO2 test.

I hope all goes well for you. Glad you have a good lung specialist. Also good for you asking for the tests, some people wouldn't know what to ask for and just trust that everything is being done that can be done. emoticon emoticon , Melody

Tonight is secondnight on sleep challenge and SAO2 monitoring...

Monday, November 22, 2010

An oxygen saturation monitor was delivered to me at work today...on testing and showing me how it works my resting SAO2 was only 92 which I found a bit alarming. I havebeen short of breath lately and am hoping it isn't a sign of some new malady (I really don't need any more health problems to deal with right now)....I will be tested only tonight and bring it back to work for the Home Equipment Department to pick it up and send a report to my sleep doctor.

I asked to be tested for oxygen saturation because I want to make sure the CPAP machine is helping me with that. I am concerned as my nadir (lowest reading) was down to 84% which is really quite worrisome.

I am sure I sound like a hypochondriac but over 20 years of typing reports for a hospital (medical transcription) makes me worry when things don't seem to be working right.....

First night on Sleep Challenge....

Monday, November 22, 2010

I slept only 7 hours but my goal is 8 hours. I did stay asleep once I got there (in bed). Had some problems getting rid of leak of CPAP mask around the eyes and finally fixed it with gauze laid around my nose where it was leaking. (Guess my nose is small.)

Had a few dreams and no nightmares (and quickly forgot them)....

Weighed in this morning at the same weight as yesterday.... (yeah!!!)

Hope everyone enjoys their day. I plan to leave early this morning in case the roads are slippery. I am listening to my favorite jazz station on line as I type this. They do the road reports from MNDOT (Minnesota Department of Transportation). Great jazz on line. 88.5 Jazz station from Minneapolis (they have online simulcast)....

I have been getting 7-8 hours of sleep nightly. I feel good with this amount. I saw the weather channel last night and you have some nasty weather.
Ours yesterday was in the 60's and it starting out at 54 this am. I know it is going to get colder but I am enjoying this last little bit of nice.
Have a good day and be safe.

No swimming today...we are iced in....

Sunday, November 21, 2010

Overnight it rained and froze on the roads....many accidents overnight....I decided to stay home today and am glad I did the grovery shopping yesterday.

I have plenty to do around the house to keep me busy including exercising as I have a recumbent bike (I bought on Craigs List very reasonably) and a very nice treadmill with all the bells and whistles. Plus I need to do a few loads of clothes and can walk up and down the stairs a few times, too. (Need to practice walking on stairs for my quad strength.)

Tomorrow morning might be a treacherous trip to work at 6:30 and I think I will have to leave at least a half hour early to avoid traffic and get there on time. Hope it isn't too bad.....

The prediction is possible heavy snow on Thanksgiving and so we might end up staying home and having a mini-feast as I did not plan to cook. Yesterday I did buy a fresh turkey with plans of cutting it in half since there are only 2 of us at home and freezing half for later on.

Hubby was concerned he wouldn't get stuffing and I reassured him I could cook dressing in a bowl while the half turkey cooks. The only thing we don't have on hand is cranberries and I should be able to get some this week before Thursday.

I am SO looking forward to working a 3-day week.

Hope your weather is better than ours is....wish I could afford a trip to some place warm this winter..... It is possible and I will start visualizing it.

Warm and sunny day. Perfect day for chasing cows around.
We love stuffing also. I make "stuffing balls" and put them in the roaster pan next to the turkey.
Also works on top of pork and saurkraut.
