No swimming today...we are iced in....

Sunday, November 21, 2010

Overnight it rained and froze on the roads....many accidents overnight....I decided to stay home today and am glad I did the grovery shopping yesterday.

I have plenty to do around the house to keep me busy including exercising as I have a recumbent bike (I bought on Craigs List very reasonably) and a very nice treadmill with all the bells and whistles. Plus I need to do a few loads of clothes and can walk up and down the stairs a few times, too. (Need to practice walking on stairs for my quad strength.)

Tomorrow morning might be a treacherous trip to work at 6:30 and I think I will have to leave at least a half hour early to avoid traffic and get there on time. Hope it isn't too bad.....

The prediction is possible heavy snow on Thanksgiving and so we might end up staying home and having a mini-feast as I did not plan to cook. Yesterday I did buy a fresh turkey with plans of cutting it in half since there are only 2 of us at home and freezing half for later on.

Hubby was concerned he wouldn't get stuffing and I reassured him I could cook dressing in a bowl while the half turkey cooks. The only thing we don't have on hand is cranberries and I should be able to get some this week before Thursday.

I am SO looking forward to working a 3-day week.

Hope your weather is better than ours is....wish I could afford a trip to some place warm this winter..... It is possible and I will start visualizing it.

Warm and sunny day. Perfect day for chasing cows around.
We love stuffing also. I make "stuffing balls" and put them in the roaster pan next to the turkey.
Also works on top of pork and saurkraut.

Lazy Saturday....

Saturday, November 20, 2010

We got a late start today and didn't leave the house until afternoon. Hubby and I went to Fantastic Sam's for haircuts. (Mine is a little shorter than I wanted but after I washed it and blowdried it, I was pretty happy with it. I got some conditioner there to help with rinsing the chlorine out from all the swimming I do (I swim about 30 minutes 5-6 times a week).
We then went grocery shopping at our Super Target and got some great bargains.

Late afternoon we went to the gym and I swam and whirlpooled. Then went home and I had a great dinner of shrimp cooked in curry paste, ginger paste on asian egg noodles.

I faithfully counted all my calories today and stayed within my range....!!!!

Someone wanted me to report about my lunch yesterday at work for my 20th anniversary with the company. There were over 100 people who had 20, 25, 30 and even 35 years of service (recipients just this year in our building where about 1500 employees work). The lunch was a formal meal with waiters and waitresses dressed in traditional black and white outfits, white linen tableclothes, floral arangements on each table and mini candles all over the tables. I couldn't find the sweetener packets and they were all hidden inside the covered sugar bowls (which gave me a little laugh). The meal started with an awesome salad of spring greens, etc with a light creamy dressing. There was nice bread passed which I passed on. The main course was a choice of a rigatoni or chicken breast. I chose the chicken breast and it must have been a double breast as I couldn't finish it. It was topped with a creamy lightly citrus (lemon or orange) sauce with fresh green beans and small boiled potatoes with red skins on. Dessert was a bit disappointing as there was no chocolate....it was two crepes rolled up with some sort of cream chese mixture topped with a drizzle of caramel sauce and there were some baked apple pieces and currants on the plate, also.

It was a nice party and I got paid for an extra 1-1/2 hours of lunch time yesterday. The new head of our department stopped by our table and made small talk and actually seemed interested where I had spent my 20 years with the company. (I have worked for 3 different departments over the years.) It was a nice party. A few people quietly noted that they were disappointed the company had done away with the nice gift cards they used to give with these anniversaries a few years ago. I just reminded myself of all the other perks I get like generous time off and excellent health insurance and life insurance options. I also am grateful the company has an excellent HR department and has a no nonsense policy of mutual respect among the employees which I have heard is a major problem at some other companies. emoticon

Yeah!!!! Friday!!!!

Friday, November 19, 2010

My coworker did not show up this week (she has been gone about 3 months now. Every Monday she is supposed to come back and that happened again this week....she is supposed to come back next Monday.... we will see. I hope she is okay. I tried calling her once but she did not return my call. So I did not try again as I did not want to "bug" her. I worry that she might not come back at all. Guess what will be, will be.

Today is my special lunch in honor of my anniversary at the company. I have been there 20 years and I can hardly believe it. One of the best perks aside from great health insurance is that I get 12 hours of PTO every 2 weeks. That really adds up. What's 12 x 26? That's how many hours of paid time off I get per year. I have been using it for doctor appointments this past year and it has been helpful for that. I try to get appointments late in the day so I don't have to use very much. I am taking a week off in December and just staying home and doing errands, etc. That might give me an idea what retirement will be like.... emoticon

It will be a very slight hint of what retirement will be like. When you are actually retired you don't have a set routine to get into right away, so there is some planning required.

Your co-worker may be in her planning stage, you never know. Have a good weekend.

This sounds like you do like your job. What a great perk--almost 8 week of vaca per year. Of course, you have earned it by your loyalty to the job.

Yay for the perks of the job!
I've got so much accumulated time that I am now taking a reduced work week until the end of the year at least. I'm taking every Monday off to attempt to use up some of that time.
I'm easing into retirement lol.

Is it really Thursday???? Next week is a 3-day work week!!!

Thursday, November 18, 2010

When I used to work at the hospital (I am now in the hospital billing department) we rarely were allowed to take the day after Thanksgiving off. I feel like my move to billing has brought a lot of perks with it....like getting New Year's Eve day off, also, and having more reasonable quotas to shoot for.

Last night I stayed up too late and I am have difficulty shaking off the grogginess. Guess tonight will have to be an early to bed night to help make up for that. I usually am in bed by 9:00 or so as my alarm goes off at 5:00 which would give me a perfect 8 hour sleep. I think last night I was in bed only 6.5 hours which really is not enough, especially considering I kept waking up for some unknown reason.....

That reason might be congestion as this morning I have coughing quite a bit and have post nasal discharge. Hope it isn't a cold.

I did swim and do other exercises for a total of 45 minutes yesterday. Managed to cook a decent dinner after we got home from the gym. Perhaps eating so late is what kept me up late, too. emoticon

YAY on the perks in the new department...makes the switch really worth while.

Hope you have a good night's sleep tonight. Like you 9pm is my bedtime, the alarming ringing at 4:30 am just allows me to squeak in a decent night's sleep.

Hugs,
Wanda

I sure hope it isn't a cold. Maybe there is not enough humidity in your CPAP. Only a thought.
Take care. HUGS!

CPAP compliance is excellent....

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

My report from the machine showed I had 93% compliance which is considered excellent for the first month of use of the CPAP machine. I do have concerns about the face mask but I have trouble keeping my mouth shut and breathing through the mouth precludes using nose prongs. There is a possibility of buying special tape to keep the mouth shut!!!! However, I have the added problem of bruxism and have been biting my cheeks and tongue at night so need to get a mouth guard for nighttime. My insurance might not pay for this. The only way I can get it is probably through my dentist and the last one cost $750 which would be a large drain on my $1200 yearly allowance from dental insurance. If I opt for that I might have to change the amount I put in my medical reimbursement account (raise it by $750 or whatever the cost of a mouthguard is) and have to make that decision by Friday of this week...(a little pressure in the decision-making here...)

emoticon

Yesterday I did water aerobics for a full hour and while I was waiting my turn (in the examining room) I did leg exercises for about 10 minutes.

Today I plan to spend another hour in the pool and do some recumbent bike, too.

Is it possible to try an athletic mouth guard over the counter to try? I know that they aren't nearly as expensive as one that is custom fit from the dentist, but might work on a temporary basis.
