Brushing twice a day...I think I need to change my habits....

Yesterday was day one of trying to bursh twice a day...and I didn't do it...only once in the morning....

This is quite a challenge to start a new habit. Perhaps I need to change my bedtime routine a bit to make sure I do this.

Any suggestions would be welcome....

Brushing teeth....TWICE a DAY!!!!

I was told by the periodontist's office to brush my teeth twice a day....I have tried but it is totally foreign to my habits. I think once a day and flossing is great....however, I have had gum disease, two root canals and two bridges. I also read about the recommendation to brush twice a day on SparkPeople. There was a study of people who brush twice a day versus once a day and they once a day brushers had a higher rate of cardiac disease. (And that runs in my family, also.)....so

trying to establish the new habit of brushing teeth twice a day and floss at least once a day is my new self-improvement project.... emoticon

    I have always brushed twice a day, but even so I have lots of dental issues. STill I like the cleaner taste of my mouth right after brushing so I do it. I can't imagine how much dental problems I would have if I wasn't as fastidious about the care I do. I love my portable waterpic and my electric toothbrush

  I try and brush my teeth after every meal. I also use minty toothpaste and if I am really tempted to eat something I shouldn't I brush my teeth with the minty toothpaste. Taste good and my teeth are happy. A win win situation!!!

    I have never flossed but I usually brush after every meal if I can. That includes snacks too. I find I don't want to eat as much because I don't want to get my teeth dirty. It's a great innovator to keep from snacking too much.

My feet felt much better yesterday. My tennis shoes apparently were worn out and I wore a different pair that are almost new. Wow....I had no idea those other shoes were so bad. I think they stretched out and were not giving much support. I was able to slip them off my feet at the gym without untying them....the shoes I wore yesterday felt a bit uncomfortable until I got the ties adjusted properly. The mistake I made with the other pair was wearijng them every day. I have at least two pair of shoes that I can switch off with and that should make them last longer. I probably wore the other pair 6 months or more.

Thank goodness one of my aches and pains was easy to fix.....

I made an eye doctor appointment Dec 6th and probably will need a new prescription for my glasses for driving. I will also ask about the strength for readers as it seems I am sitting closer to the computer lately.

I think I can tackle one problem at a time. Next is having my ortho doctor check out my back and neck which have been chronically sore for at least 2 weeks now. Getting back to swimming is helping that a bit but I might need some PT or some suggested exercises for that.
Overall, I am feeling much better than over the weekend. emoticon

    I'm so glad to hear you're getting along better now. My DD's have the same problem with their shoes. Mine are all worn down from walking on the streets. That's worse on them than the treadmill. LOL

I haven't been keeping good track of my nutrition and inspite of that since Oct 18th to now I have lost over 2 lbs. (Victory dance...) If I continue to watch portion sizes and listen to my "inner real hunger voice" I believe I can get the weight to go down. I gave in a few times in this last week to "real hunger" and had small sensible snacks in the afternoon and am glad I gave in to those hunger pangs. This was not mindless eating and I had small snacks which really helped in the long run.

I find trying to eat only 3 times a day doesn't work for me. I noticed when I am not eating my usual fruits and veggies I get hungry more often so this week I will be sure to eat plenty of fresh fruits and veggies which always have helped to make me feel full. emoticon

    Today I had a snack of a small apple with about 1-1/2 tsp peanut butter on the quarters. That really helped fix my "growling stomach." emoticon

    I too have not been as careful about tracking and watching portion control and the weight came back. I am now trying to find my inner voice that tells me when I am actually hungry and not just bored. With help from members here at Sparkpeople, I feel that we can do anything we set out to do. emoticon

    I try to have snacks once or twice a day to help me control my portions at meal time. Fruits and veggies are the snacks of choice. You can do it!

I feel much better this afternoon and evening. I got into my swimsuit at the gym, showered and made a beeline for the pool which felt great. I stayed in doing exercises and swimming for a full 30 minutes and am so glad. Afterwards I whirlpooled for about 15 minutes and did 10 minutes of exercises in the whirlpool.

Both activities help loosen me up and I got over my aversion to swimming (I actually think I made the right decision not going for the previous 3-4 days as I had spasms in neck and back.) After I shopped and walked around the stores and parking lots for a full hour I went home with my purchases and just as I walked in the front door my right ankle became quite painful and I hobbled around for awhile until I was able to put weight on it without the severe pain I got as I walked through the door. I think I bent the foot and leaned on it with bad form as I was trying to unhook the device that held the door open as hubby brought in groceries.

I just wish I didn't have so many things hurting.... and otherwise causing concern (I had trouble reading the road signs as I drove home from the store, also)....I am not a multitasker and I am feeling a bit of overload today.

I hope this coming week things settle down and I hope I can continue my regular swimming sessions. I definitely am going back to work tomorrow but will call the eye doctor first (of any doctors I want to see) as I just got my first pair of driving glasses about a year ago and they did send a reminder to get another checkup as I have the beginnings of cataracts and macular degeneration (both at a level of 1 out of 10). I am scheduled for a check up regarding my CPAP machine and I think I will ask to try the nose prong type of ventilation as I am afraid I am getting air blown in my eyes at night because I move around a lot at night and the mask leaks mostly around the top near my eyes. (I sure sound like a worry wart, or perhaps a hypochondriac but I want to keep on top of these things so I don't end up with more serious problems than I am having at present.) emoticon

  I think you will like the prong type nose piece, IF it is fitted properly.
