couldn't do ice but did go swimming for 30 minutes

Sunday, November 07, 2010

I feel much better this afternoon and evening. I got into my swimsuit at the gym, showered and made a beeline for the pool which felt great. I stayed in doing exercises and swimming for a full 30 minutes and am so glad. Afterwards I whirlpooled for about 15 minutes and did 10 minutes of exercises in the whirlpool.

Both activities help loosen me up and I got over my aversion to swimming (I actually think I made the right decision not going for the previous 3-4 days as I had spasms in neck and back.) After I shopped and walked around the stores and parking lots for a full hour I went home with my purchases and just as I walked in the front door my right ankle became quite painful and I hobbled around for awhile until I was able to put weight on it without the severe pain I got as I walked through the door. I think I bent the foot and leaned on it with bad form as I was trying to unhook the device that held the door open as hubby brought in groceries.

I just wish I didn't have so many things hurting.... and otherwise causing concern (I had trouble reading the road signs as I drove home from the store, also)....I am not a multitasker and I am feeling a bit of overload today.

I hope this coming week things settle down and I hope I can continue my regular swimming sessions. I definitely am going back to work tomorrow but will call the eye doctor first (of any doctors I want to see) as I just got my first pair of driving glasses about a year ago and they did send a reminder to get another checkup as I have the beginnings of cataracts and macular degeneration (both at a level of 1 out of 10). I am scheduled for a check up regarding my CPAP machine and I think I will ask to try the nose prong type of ventilation as I am afraid I am getting air blown in my eyes at night because I move around a lot at night and the mask leaks mostly around the top near my eyes. (I sure sound like a worry wart, or perhaps a hypochondriac but I want to keep on top of these things so I don't end up with more serious problems than I am having at present.) emoticon

I think you will like the prong type nose piece, IF it is fitted properly.

You should try heat. I have read that ice is only good for the first 24-48 hours of injury. After that, heat is better.

Have you tried heat instead of ice?

Sorry, I know it's uncomfortable. But if it works that will be amazing. Think of the end result, not the process.

Pain in back, neck back and right ankle....

Saturday, November 06, 2010

Tried to go swimming again but my back was too sore....I did whirlpool and back was so bad I had trouble getting dressed and undressed. I will try again to go to the swimming pool tomorrow and will limit my time in bed to 8 hours tonight. I recall having back pains before and was unable to lie in bed more than 5-6 hours at a time. Then I had to get up and walk around.

One of my spark friends thought I might need to see a chiropractor. I used to see a chiropractor but lost my faith in them as I actually got better after discontinuing monthly visits for several years. If I don't feel better by Tuesday I am going to give my orthopedic doctor's office a call and see who they would suggest I see. My knee doctor doesn't "do backs" so I will have to see someone else at his office. I see a second doctor for my feet there and my custom made orthotics don't seem to be helping lately, so I will need to see her again and see what she suggests.

I am going to go to work Monday morning unless I have more spasms in my back and/or neck that would make driving difficult.

At least I have an extra day to rest this week (plus that extra hour for daylight savings time changeover!!!! emoticon)!!!

I am having back pain, too. I am not sure what the cause is - I am thinking mostly stress. I do know the 'new' thinking is that too much laying down is not good for back pain. I am going to try some gentle stretching today to see if it helps.

I hope you figure yours out soon!

I am sorry you are still in so much pain. Ice often helps me to loosen spasms in my neck and back. All chiropractors are not created equal. I swear by mine, and if I have a migraine 1 adjustment to C1/C2 clears it. Same with vertigo. However my sister has one that doesn't seem to help her at all.

At one time I was having back spasms because of an injury, and the thing that helped the most was ice massage. I would freeze little dixie cups of ice and my DH would rub them over and over where the spasms were occuring they really helped.

I hope you get some relief soon.

Saturday errands to do...

Saturday, November 06, 2010

Would like to "take it easy" today but have to do some errands and straighten up the living room and kitchen.

I still have headache off and on and think it is sinuses/neck and or combination of several things including a lingering migraine..... I think I will try some Tylenol Extra Strength and later after I am not driving I might try some leftover pain pills.

I definitely will try to go swimming today. Yesterday I got to the gym and my neck went into spasms while I was putting on my swim suit so I only steam roomed and whirlpooled and did a few exercises in the whirlpool.

I hope these neck and head aches let up soon. emoticon

Just a thought-you might want to consult a chiropractor. When my oldest DD has migraines, it
means a bone has shifted in her neck. Usually she goes in for a treatment and the migraines stop.
HUGS!

Called in sick today.... still have headache and feel all wrung out...

Friday, November 05, 2010

I slept and woke up, ad nauseaum...kept waking up in spite of my CPAP. I called in sick at my usual wake up time of 5:00 a.m., fed the cats and went back to bed for about 3 more hours. I think today is just for resting and sparking.

I had someone suggest the migraines could be hormonal but I am not on hormones and I am postmenopausal. My best friend thinks it is stress as I do have a fair amount of stressful situations in my life at present.

Whatever it is, today will just be a "me" day and resting time to collect my thoughts and pay some bills since today is payday.

Thanks for comments on my recent blogs from Spark Friends.

I hope you had a restful "me" day. You have been under a lot of stress and it takes awhile to recover from your knee surgery. Hope all is well today. Have a great weekend.
