Starting to feel really confident :)

With each passing day, I am feeling more and more confident in my abilities to do this. To be able to become a healthier and happier self. It's still not easy nor will I expect it to be. But as I am starting to feel better physically, my mental strength is growing much stronger. This is such a great feeling to have! I know this isn't a long post but felt the need to show my newfound confidence :)

    You can do this & Spark People is a great place to go for support. Sometimes I use it as a place to just vent about my day. Keep up the great work - you can do it!

    So glad to hear that you are doing well. Spark People is the first time that I've ever lost weight and know it is not a diet, but a change of lifestyle. I've done almost all of the others. Weight Watchers, and fasting, and none of those really worked because they were a short time fix. I've always gained twice as much as I lost, so I'm really glad that my daughter put me on to this site. It has helped me tremendously .

Weekend Results

This weekend has been crazy busy (nothing new!) so I am just now getting around to even opening my laptop. So Saturday morning I woke up bright and early (5:15) and got ready for my 10K. It was so so so so cold! My mom picked me up at 6 and we headed to the race. Got registered and got all bundled up. Temperature at start time was 40 degrees! If we all remember, my goal was to finish in 99 minutes or better. But we will get to finishing time in a little bit. Let's take a little journey shall we?

Mile 1: Mostly downhill and kept together with several runners. Ran the entire mile without stopping to walk. I was really feeling good and was starting to warm up (I could finally feel my toes again). At start I was wearing a hat, scarf, jacket, gloves, long sleeve shirt with a short sleeve shirt over it. At the end of this mile, I shed my scarf.

Mile 2: Started with an small incline and then leveled out for the remainder of the mile. Still with several other runners in my view. Sun started to peak over the trees making vision not fun. Had to walk a little bit every now and again but I was still at a very good pace.

Mile 3: This mile was full of rolling hills. Wasn't too bad though. I had shed my gloves and jacket at this point as well. When I passed the 3rd mile marker I was at 37:51! Best 3 miles I have ever done!

Mile 4: This was a beast. A. BEAST. It was all uphill. it wasn't gentle rolling hills, just a constant uphill battle. I walked a good bit more on this mile than any other. Still kept a pretty good pace though.

Mile 5: The first half mile was still on that uphill so it was brutal. After that it leveled out and I hit the water station.

Mile 6: As I passed the 5th mile marker, I was feeling super confident in myself! I turned up my music and really started to pick up the pace. The only thing that was a bummer was that the 6th mile was a reverse of the first mile which made it uphill. I was having to walk more and more because I felt a tightness in my hip and groin area.

Last .2 miles: I was flying at this point. I could see the finish line. I could see my mom waiting for me. I knew I had done something I had never done before.

So to wrap up this story, I crossed the finish line with a time of 1:23:17!! That's 83 minutes! I finished 16 minutes under my goal time and I was elated!

That made my weekend perfect! Now I am relaxing and watching Netflix while I am at work. I hope everyone else had just as great of a weekend as I did. I will check again either tomorrow or Tuesday!

    That is totally awesome! I haven't gotten into running yet, but I walk whenever I can! That is such a huge accomplishment, and makes you such an inspiration! You should feel awesome! Enjoy your netflix! You deserve some down time after that!

Ready for the weekend!

I know everyone has had a week like this with their job. The week where as you go to bed on Tuesday night and it feels like you have been working 4 days instead of just 2. Glad I am on the downhill side of this week now though! Since it has been such a busy and crazy week, I have been struggling with stress eating. I've come up with a new way to combat it though and hopefully it will work out in the long run. I'm going to sit down when I find myself at the fridge or the pantry when I'm stressed and drink a big glass of water slowly and focus my mind on the things I am looking forward to.

Speaking of looking forward, I have my big 10K race this weekend! emoticon I'm so nervous! I just need to finish with a time of 99 minutes or less. Not really looking to PR just need that time or better to qualify for my Disney Half Marathon. I'm even more worried now because we have experienced a severe cold snap here in Georgia this week and temperature at start time is going to be about 50 degrees. I HATE running in the cold and I haven't been able to train in it that much because up until Monday, the temps had been in the 70s and 80s. Really worried about that. If anybody has any tips, they would be greatly appreciated!

Late Check-In

So I know I was supposed to post on Saturday but I got so busy with my weekend plans that I didn't get to so I am doing it now!

I weighed in Saturday morning and I had lost 1.4 pounds so I am super pumped for that! Current weight is now 184.6! WHOOHOO! Getting back on track the right way :)

Also, my race Saturday night was so much fun! It was a moonlight run in the downtown area of where I live. I got to do it with a couple of friends which is always fun. It was a really tough course and I don't typically run well at night so I wasn't expecting to do that well, I just wanted to finish it under 45 minutes. When I crossed the finish line, the clock read 39:10! NEW PR!! Totally wasn't expecting that so it made it even more exciting. I didn't place at this one (much larger race) but I did win a raffle prize! New water bottle belt for me!

This week will be more training for the half marathon and getting ready for Saturday to run my 10K. My goal for that race is to finish it in under 99 minutes. Both my mom and my husband will be coming along to support me.

It has been a hot minute...

So I know that it has been a very long time since I posted. I once again fell into my normal pattern of doing great for a while and then fall of the wagon for a while but now I am ready to do this for the long term! I also don't have much of a choice since I have a half-marathon in 3 months to train for. I recently ran a 5K and place 3rd in my age group and set a PR with 39:25. This weekend I am running another 5K with friends. I have been battling the flu the past two weeks so I am not looking to PR but it'll be good to get back into a race before my 10K next Saturday.

Right now I am currently 186 pounds, so I haven't gained back that much weight in my time off the wagon but I am ready to ride it out and get this weight off and be my healthiest self! I have a goal to post at least 4 times a week, hopefully y'all can help me out with this to keep me on track! I will weigh in on Saturday morning and let you know how I am doing this week!

    So great that you're back! Good luck on your run. I trained and did a half marathon (walking) about 4 years ago and it was hard at over 200lbs. It was so rewarding though.
Best thing is for you to feel well before this weekend and stay hydrated. Know that the SP community is here for you and we're supporting you all the way! We'll be waiting to hear from you Saturday! emoticon emoticon
