Okay, so week 2 doesn't officially end until Sunday, but I haven't done so well on my goals. I only got to run 10 minutes Monday after work, before my daughter called & asked me to pick her up early from Color Guard practice - urg! Tuesday night I went to a presentation that lasted after 9pm, so no toning that day. Wednesday I left work early due to headache/tummy ache (too much coffee, LoL!), so obviously no exercise at all - did get to bed early, though. Last night I checked out that new Sunflower Farmer's Market & got some great squash, then actually managed to run for 25 minutes when I got home - FINALLY! Tonight Margaret will be at an away game, meaning she probably won't be back until after 11pm, so me & the hubby will have to stay up waiting on her. I will TRY to get up to the gym tonight (since there's not anything good on the TV anyway) to do some weights, BUT Margaret needs me to pick up some stuff from WalMart as well. Fortunately, they are open all night, so I really SHOULD be able to do both. And tomorrow I'm shooting for a 30 minute run in the morning - maybe outside! Then some gym time on Sunday and I can still salvage this week - gotta do this!
It's been 10 days without a Coke, though - that's $10 in my savings jar. It's looking like I'll be buying myself a new Sirius radio unit for my car, the one I have now is trying to die on me. Can't live without my MUSIC!

The week ended not too badly, but I certainly could do better. So far I've made it a whole week without drinking a Coke, so my stomach IS better, though I'm drinking more coffee and that's bad as well:( There were at least two days where I stuck with tea and REALLY felt better.
But the snacks, well...Friday I had to take Margaret to school REAL early & didn't get a chance to eat breakfast, so - I went to McDonald's and got one of their $1 sausage mcmuffin things. Then that evening I was invited to the older girl's apartment for dinner, stopped at McDonald's again to get a glass of tea, and ended up buying a small french fries. So, kind of busted on that one, and my little plan didn't deal with those freebies, like when my boss brought muffins to work, or my friend's birthday party. Yeah, gonna have to think on THAT one a bit.
As for exercising, I hit my running target but missed one weight-training session. I plan to do weights on Thursdays and Sunday afternoon, but yesterday I got a free ticket to see Edgar Cruz, and I just couldn't pass THAT up! So, I'll have to double down this week and try harder. And of course, now that we're talking rock-climbing, I REALLY need that weight-training!

I know we've all been there - you work hard, watch what you eat, but for some reason the scale goes UP instead of DOWN! It can ruin your whole day. I've been pretty true to my challenge, avoiding Cokes and sticking with my lower-calorie snacks, and as a result my weight was down nearly two pounds! I even managed to run last night for about 20 minutes, with the goal being running 3x weekly, so that's run no. 2 for the week. I didn't run that much, only for 20 minutes at a lower speed, because my tummy was pretty upset. Though I've skipped the Cokes I'm drinking more coffee, and I know I shouldn't be doing THAT either - well yesterday I was paying for it big time!
Still, with all my efforts having my weight go UP is just so FRUSTRATING!!! I know everyone's been there, and really though I am hoping to lose about 8 lbs over the next 12 weeks that's not even the big goal. I'm just ranting a little right now. Ladybug was talking about letting other people have control over you, well they've got NOTHING on the scale! Right or wrong, I weigh myself every morning, and often my mood for the day is set by those numbers. Needless to say, today's mood is a little bummed out, but I WON'T blow it with a Coke or a brownie! I've GOT to take better care of my stomach, so no coffee today either! Gotta be STRONG now!

AND WE'RE OFF!!! Already I'm down 1 1/2 lbs, due largely to the 2nd challenge of eating only the healthy (or at least lower calorie) snacks bought from the grocery store. I started that a little early because I'm FLAT BROKE after buying groceries. Anybody else noticed that? Milk at $3.77 a gallon at Wal-Mart! Fortunately I have a Sam's Club membership, and was able to get skim milk for $2.89 there. But still, I spent $206 at Wal-Mart, with about $151 of that actual food and the rest on vitamins, personal products, etc. THEN we still spent another $77 at Sam's on chicken, frozen veggies, fruit and milk - that's all! And then I realized oh, we forgot dog food and we're out of Cascade, so there went another $18. Total groceries = $301 for 3 people for about 2 weeks! And of course I funded my daughter's lunch ticket for the month at $60, so yeah, not alot of money left over to cheat with.
Which is probably a good thing, really. Margaret is anxiously waiting for me to "slip up" on the Cokes, as I mentioned she'll get $1 for every time I do that (though it might be an I.O.U. if I slip this week!) Today is Day One for the "give up Cokes" part of the challenge. Hopefully I'll be a little less "gassy" after this!
Also, I'll be literally running in a few minutes - I do think it's easier to run in the morning than in the evening, but on a normal Monday morning I'm usually running late! My idea of exercise in the morning is getting some tea before my shower! But it's Labor Day, and true to the name I'll be "laboring," getting some much-needed housework done after my run. I probably will post weekly to let you all know how I've been doing on my challenges, thanks for being there! Gotta run!

So today is September 1, 2011, and I've been plotting a twelve-week challenge based on my husband's plan. His office has put together a twelve-week challenge based on the Biggest Loser, with weekly meetings and lots of clever stuff. I can't go to the meetings, so I decided to draft my own using three of his plan's goals (something about that number 3, easy to remember, manageable, all that!)
So, here are the 3 challenges:
1. Give up one vice. For me that will be Cokes. I have GERD and a hiatal hernia, so I REALLY shouldn't be drinking them. Sometimes there's more to good health than just weight loss. Anyway, to accomplish this challenge I will pay myself $1 for every day that I don't have a Coke. BUT if I drink one, I have to pay my daughter Margaret the $1!
2. Stick with the healthy snacks I buy at the grocery store, and stay away from the junk food at 7-Eleven and Starbucks - which should also save ME some bucks. After grocery shopping last night, I need all the savings I can get!
3. Train for the Kramer 5K run by running 3 days a week and cross-training with weights/pilates 2 days a week.
So there's the plan, and the goals? To be stronger and healthier, and hopefully lose about 8 lbs. And also, to save up some money so I can buy myself something really fun for Christmas! Twelve weeks is approximately 3 months, and I'll start the challenge on Monday, Sept. 5, and end it Sunday, Nov. 27th. Yes, I'm starting and ending this challenge on holiday weekends, but really, holidays and weekends shouldn't be an excuse to overindulge and underexercise. I'll keep everyone posted on my progress, successes and slipups. Wish me luck!
