Weak yesterday, stronger today

Yesterday I lamented how my weight has gone up - and then indulged in 3 cookies and 1 sweet roll brought up by co-workers. I totally FAIL at saying "No thanks" to free food -- something I clearly need to work on. But I was stronger today, at least I was able to talk myself out of buying a Brownie when I was feeling pretty stressed. Instead I snacked on the banana and dark chocolate almonds I brought to work. emoticon Gotta celebrate the small victories! emoticon

    Put a piece of gum or a peppermint in your mouth so you can so no thank you I have something already & the item won't taste as good. You can do it!

Makes me wanna CRY!

Just my weight's back up again emoticon seems like this happens every year. I really wanted this to be different. And December is the WORST month for trying to lose weight. I'm only talking about 4 lbs emoticon but still, every year I lose some weight only to gain it back by year's end. When will I ever learn??? Oh well, enough of the pity party, time to get back to it! emoticon

November dieting & exercise

Hi there, I haven't been around as much lately since I joined the New Horizons music program at OU. It's a blast, but sadly I had to drop the upright bass/orchestra section. It was just too difficult, trying to learn a new instrument AND jazz numbers for the guitar. I'm still doing the Jazz Ensemble, and I may even become a decent guitar player (someday) emoticon

The key is (big surprise) consistency, just like diet and exercise. I need to practice daily, consistently, in order to learn and play these songs. I've never played jazz before, so this is a totally new experience for me. I am learning alot, pushing myself on the guitar and music theory more than ever. That's the ticket.

And now it's time to push myself harder on the dieting part. Yep, it's a terrible time of the year to even TRY to diet, and I'm not very good at saying "No" to the yummy treats that find their way into my workspace. So, my strategy for November is this: limit the AMOUNT of yummy treats to just 1 or 2 SMALL ones, and consistently follow a healthy and low-cal eating plan the rest of the day. I figure that I won't be able to say no to ALL yummy treats, but if I can hold it down instead of eating everything in sight, that's a good plan. And of course, with the extra treats it's even MORE important to eat smaller, healthier meals the rest of the time. emoticon

As for exercise, well now I've got my Thursday nights back, so there's no reason NOT to run 3 times a week, and throw in some weight training 2 other days. I can get back into Coach Nicole's 28-Day Bootcamp DVD, or even hit the gym on, say, Wed & Sundays. And I'm proud to announce that I ran the Kramer 5K on Saturday in 34:28, which is about 1 1/2 minutes FASTER than last years! emoticon One of my New Years goals was to increase my running speed to 6mhp, and I'm definitely making progress! emoticon But with just 2 months left in the year, I really need to be pushing it!

    Sounds like you love what your doing... Getting more time to exercisr is always great. I feel the same way w only 2 months left in the yearbit is time to push. I set a goal to be down 14 pds by christmas 2 wks ago and so far i am down 4
5 so i have 6 weeks left... Oh dear

So I ran in the Hinton "Zombie Edition" of the Dirty 30, and MAN, it was COLD!!! My goal was to complete the course in under an hour, and still have at least 1 flag left. Well -- I think I got it done right at one hr (still not totally sure on that), but I lost all my flags and therefore "died." emoticon Oh well, it was still lots of fun -- except for the COLD part!

Cut my running time!

Yep, yesterday I ran 3 miles in just under 35 minutes! emoticon On my last 5K I ran it in 36.02, so that's a big improvement! Of course, it WAS on a treadmill emoticon but for some reason I tend to run a little faster outdoors (probably caused by gravity going downhill!). My weight's also down a smidge emoticon and I'm not sure if it's diet or losing muscle tone. I've really slacked off the exercising, and the Zombie Run is only 2 weeks away! (AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!) So I managed to squeeze in some pushups and ab work, and it feels pretty good - so far emoticon
