Last night I went to this New Horizons program out of OU, where people of "all ages" (mostly MY age) either learn to play an instrument or take up one they used to play. I have played with guitar for years (they didn't have Rock Band when I was a kid), and I thought maybe this would be a way to get better. Well, last night was a full orchestra, and they don't really use a guitar player, so I decided to try Upright Bass! They got me a loaner, you should see the thing - it's HUGE! So last night I just learned a little about the instrument, like how to hold it and the scale, then we went over a song. I think I'm going to like this!
Next Monday I'll be jamming with the Jazz Ensemble, and they DO take guitar players! Stay tuned....

Well MY road to you-know-where will definitely be paved with my good intentions. I had EVERY intention of getting on the elliptical last night, and then maybe doing some much-needed Pilates. Instead my hubby and I watched "Act of Valor," a movie about Navy Seals and apparently starring actual Navy Seals. I believe that, too - the acting was awful! But it was an intense movie, good storyline. And it definitely got in the way, should have worked out FIRST and THEN watched it! Tomorrow my hubby & I are going to Tinsletown to watch "Lawless," and I'm SO EXCITED about it!!! Yep, you can tell what kind of movies I like to watch - lots of action, fighting, and Tom Hardy is in "Lawless," so bonus points there!
On a more serious note, tonight I'm looking into doing something REALLY challenging! Stay tuned....

I make a pledge to focus on my diet, determined to drop some lbs this month, and ramp up the exercising, and what happens? I get SICK!!! Somehow I got strepthroat again, missed 2 days of work and several days of working out! And of course, when you don't feel well you want that "comfort food" all the more. Probably should try to eat HEALTHIER when my throat hurts, to see if I can get well faster, but NOOOO, I over-indulged instead. I should make that a new goal: eat healthy & don't overindulge next time I get sick. Or maybe, don't get sick???
At least today I'm feeling much better, in fact I just went for a short 10-15 min. walk Maybe try to do a little hand weights or stretchy band workout tonight, AFTER I get some last minute school supplies for my daughter. Hey, fighting the crowds at WalMart is a workout in itself sometimes!

Today is August 9, and I'm a little late making this, but I read another blog yesterday from a lady who managed to lose 8 lbs last month, and is going for 7 lbs this month. My lowest weight so far this year is 137 lbs, but it's gone up a couple of pounds since then. So, I will be joining my virtual 5K buddy in the goal of losing 7 lbs this month!
Starting today, I will begin to log my food intake at least 5 days a week, continue in 2B's August mini-challenge, and pay more attention to portion sizes. I would like to keep calories between 1500-1600 daily - and NOT kid myself into thinking I can do 1200 cals, that just ain't happening!
