My 3 month, 3 challenge plan

Thursday, September 01, 2011

So today is September 1, 2011, and I've been plotting a twelve-week challenge based on my husband's plan. His office has put together a twelve-week challenge based on the Biggest Loser, with weekly meetings and lots of clever stuff. I can't go to the meetings, so I decided to draft my own using three of his plan's goals (something about that number 3, easy to remember, manageable, all that!)

So, here are the 3 challenges:

1. Give up one vice. For me that will be Cokes. I have GERD and a hiatal hernia, so I REALLY shouldn't be drinking them. Sometimes there's more to good health than just weight loss. Anyway, to accomplish this challenge I will pay myself $1 for every day that I don't have a Coke. BUT if I drink one, I have to pay my daughter Margaret the $1!

2. Stick with the healthy snacks I buy at the grocery store, and stay away from the junk food at 7-Eleven and Starbucks - which should also save ME some bucks. After grocery shopping last night, I need all the savings I can get!

3. Train for the Kramer 5K run by running 3 days a week and cross-training with weights/pilates 2 days a week.

So there's the plan, and the goals? To be stronger and healthier, and hopefully lose about 8 lbs. And also, to save up some money so I can buy myself something really fun for Christmas! Twelve weeks is approximately 3 months, and I'll start the challenge on Monday, Sept. 5, and end it Sunday, Nov. 27th. Yes, I'm starting and ending this challenge on holiday weekends, but really, holidays and weekends shouldn't be an excuse to overindulge and underexercise. I'll keep everyone posted on my progress, successes and slipups. Wish me luck! emoticon

Sounds like a lifestyle change is a comin'.

Do something for 30 to 40 days and it becomes a habit, and these are all great lifestyle changes and commitments. emoticon emoticon

Depression eating

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

I HATE it when it happens ... some unpleasant event at work and my whole day goes to heck. It started with a chocolate cupcake - no idea how many calories. I made up for it partially because of a low-cal TV dinner I brought for lunch, but then around 3:30pm I ended up buying both a Starbucks iced white mocha AND a Hershey bar. I also ended up crying some more about this particular event, which combined with the coffee to give me an upset stomach. I left work about 20 minutes early, but knew I needed to buy groceries. My daughter went with me to Wal-Mart to help, I ended up buying her dinner at McDonalds AND got a small fries & cherry pie for myself. Overall, not a good food day, though somehow I'm down half a pound. Maybe between the crying and spending 3 hrs walking around Wal-Mart did it, I don't know. The one good thing I did was, I had already planned healthy meals & mostly stuck to the list, and I did buy an Oxygen magazine on abs workouts as well. It has an article about this very topic, which I will read while eating my turkey sandwich & mango slices for lunch. Yeah, spent all my money on groceries so no eating out, no cheating at least. I feel better today, at least not as upset. Trying to stay positive about my work situation, and trying to have faith that this situation is for the best. Thanks for being there. emoticon

Yesterday was much better than Monday. I was calmer about the particular situation, and I definitely ate better! Still, I didn't make it to the treadmill, but I DID do some ab work at least - that's something, isn't it? emoticon

Awww, cheer up, it'll get better! I understand about work issues and not just that but any issues that can throw you into a depression and make you just not care about what you eat! It's just so easy to say "to heck with it!" when nothing seems to go your way and you're an emotional wreck! Just hang in there and start fresh the next day. emoticon

About that new Outlet Mall...

Sunday, August 07, 2011

I mentioned last week that I planned to check out that new Outlet mall on I-40 & Council Road on Friday, tax-free shopping day - well I did! Thought I'd talk about it a little. First, I didn't get out there as early as I would have liked, because my daughter needed a dental appt. And of course, the only opening they had was Friday, Aug. 5, at 9:30am. Well that took most of the morning, then we had lunch and finally got down there around 12:30pm. By then traffic on I-40 westbound was backed up 4 miles. We went down Council, and found people were parking on the grass fields around the mall. I think they might need to invest in more parking!

Anyway, my hubby had wanted to tag along, but when he saw that crowd he wanted to turn around and leave. Fortunately I was driving, and I said "No way, I've been looking forward to this for weeks!" But I ended up letting him park the car while Margaret and I got started. Fortunately he was able to find a pretty close parking spot right after that, and caught up with us quick.

Well, as most of you probably already know, it's an "open-air mall", with big tents over the top. And it was also like 110 degrees that day, not like today (thanks for the break from the heat!!!). I got a Coke (I know, shouldn't have) and Margaret got a bottle of water. We checked out that Saks 5th Avenue, and I saw a pair of jeans for $149! Okay, that might be discount for Saks, but it was out of my price range! We also went to the Sceechers store, because Margaret wanted some gladiator style sandals. But sadly the fall shoes were out, no sandals and she didn't need anymore sneakers. I checked out a kitchen store, but Ron was already wanting to leave. We found a Levi's store, and I honestly thought the jeans were reasonably priced, but Margaret didn't find anything she liked. Okay, fine, I thought - I guess I'll come back some other time BY MYSELF, without my cranky hubby & child (maybe in a month or so, when the buzz calms down). There were alot of cool stores I wanted to check out, a Corningware, Bass, Coach, Reebok, etc. They also have a SmashBurger, I can only imagine how many calories you would consume there. Yeah, part of me wants to find out, but probably I should skip that one.

I dropped the hubby off at home, then took Margaret to Ross Dress for Less and Target, and got all her back-to-school clothes there. She made out like a bandit, of course. And I DID buy her a new pair of flats at the Famous Footwear in the Outlet mall, so it wasn't a TOTAL waste of time. And as Arnold said, "I'll be BACK!" emoticon

Thanks for all the comments! I am DEFINITELY planning on a return trip in September, that should give us enough time for the newness to wear off, but before the Christmas shopping begins. If anyone's up for a meet & greet there, let me know! emoticon

I want to go there as well, but will definitely wait for the crowds to subside. Thanks for the overview.

We had smashburger in Wichita. It is good, but definitely a ton of calories. One time I went in and asked for nutritional facts and the girl behind the counter was like, "yeah, we don't have those. No one who eats here cares about their health." LOL

I went to Wal-Mart on Reno over the weekend and just driving on Reno was enough for me! I can go to the mall in a couple of months! I want to check out the Under Armor outlet.

I want to go! I have to wait for all the craziness to die down though, especially since I'll be coming all the way from Tulsa. SmashBurger is pretty epic, by the way! You could easily blow a whole day's calories in there.

Sounds like fun. I was doing a little shopping this weekend for granddaughter's upcoming 2nd birthday (love buying those "Hello Kitty" shirts and accessories, even got a Hello Kitty shirt for myself, gonna wear it to her party and then probably never again!), and Target, Sam's Club, and the mall were all extremely busy. Guess It's that time of year!

There was no way, no how that I was going to brave that, I'm just thankful I didn't have to drive on I-40 Westbound for most the weekend! Brave lady!

I live at 10th & Council, and I've been seeing all the traffic and crowds. It's been CRAZY!! I want to go to the Nike outlet, but there was no WAY I was going anytime this weekend or for the next few weekends!!

They probably don't need to make any more parking spaces though. I'm sure once the tax-free weekend craze, the back-to-school shopping and the newness wears off, it will likely have plenty of parking.

BTW you should have let hubby go to the Hogwash Bar & Grill. They even have a sign out front that says "Come in and have a beer and some food while the old lady shops"!! LMAO

You're brave!! I drove by there on Thursday and on Friday. It was a total mess!!! I'm waiting until the new wears off. I'll enjoy my own opening day, sometime in late September. :) I'm thinking I'll go right after I eat my healthy lunch too, because I bet that SmashBurger speaks to people subliminally, and I wanna just be able to say "Nope, I'm full". lol

One good thing about this hot weather...

Wednesday, August 03, 2011

Wow, my first SparkBlog ever! So glad to be here, despite the HEAT in OKC. This morning it was 92 deg. at 6:20am, now that's just too hot!!! But one good thing about all this hot weather is, pasta is just not that appealing. No heavy lasagna, macaroni & cheese, or pizza. And those heavy, greasy bacon cheeseburgers with fries, they don't sound good either. What DOES sound good? WATERMELON!!! Oh, and ice cream, of course, but fortunately there's some real decent lower cal/sugar brands out there to help me cool off on the inside. And cold turkey sandwiches with cucumbers, mmmm! Better stop now before I get hungry!
