Have an issue any help much appreciated

Monday, August 15, 2011

Okay so here's my problem,,, I have been working out on my stationary bike. .(level #1 the easiest level for now) trying for cardio after doing 12 miles in an hour on it the bike says like less than 200 calories burned on here it says like 987 calories which yes I think that's more than likely over shooting. I so don't feel like I did that good... YES I sweat a good bit but I don't think that # is right... what should I do??? I don't want false numbers I want to know how much work I need to do!

Tara, I personally use a heart rate monitor. I find my calorie burn is never close to the gym machines and usually off by what this web sites estimates. Sometimes at the gym it is off by 50%! Your calorie burn depends on your age, gender, height, weight, and general fitness level. Those estimates don't take that into consideration. You can go to different websites and get your THR (target heart rate zone) and find a workout that will get your heart rate into that zone. You can take your heart rate yourself during your workout. Then you will know you will be burning an appropriate number of calories for you. You can also purchase a heart rate monitor. I personally prefer Polar and you can get one for under $100. Hope this helps.

Don't trust the calorie count on ANY machine! If you want to burn more calories in less time, though, try HIIT training :) Tabata intervals are SUPER challenging, and super awesome for burning fat!

I have always heard that the counters on machines are set for a 150lb person and are generic numbers. If I were you I would find something else to supplement your workout and change it up a little.
I bought the kettleworks kettle bell system and I have a treadclimber, It seems if I do both my weight comes off a little easier.
Hope I helped a little.

For me 12 miles in an hour on a regular bike in a cardio HR range would be more like the 200 calorie. I think the cardio numbers here are high for cycling, haven't checked stationary though.

Count me in!! 20 week Challenge!

Monday, August 15, 2011

Okay so today is Day 41 for me!

So here's where I am at.. Today I've got to do my monthly measurements..
I have changed my goals! After reading several blogs about the 20 week challenge... I to have decided its a great ideal.. I deleted many things off my favorites on my menu plan,( only kept the ones that is okay on my plan) I changed my goals to lose 50lbs by Jan 1, 2012.
That lowered my calories which is a good thing I couldn't meet the ones before anyways.. lol So here's to 50lbs gone in 20 weeks!!!

I was a little scared to put this out there because it means I m more likely to be accountable for it as to where if I didn't post this no one would even know. But I feel as if I NEED to be held accountable to do it,,,, so here it is!

I also want to say BEST of luck to everyone on this! Also Thank you ladies for the Motivation to do this! So count me in!

How long until you started SEEing the changes???

Friday, August 12, 2011

Day 38, I m still sticking to it! To the food plan, drinking lots of water, and exercising! I feel things changing but I so can't wait to see things change. For the most part the hardest thing for me has been going OVER on sodium and UNDER on carbs and calories.. sounds crazy I know.

Anyways I m just wondering how long before you start to SEE changes???

I know its only been 38 days for me and it takes time. But just looking forward to seeing the changes.. I know that will be the next big motivation I m needing! Not that I m falling off the plan, I m not but I know seeing changes will put a boost in my efforts lol

I've been at it 3 months and just received my first comment from a friend about me looking thinner. I like to think of it as a game: see how long I can keep at it before someone notices. Next is to see how long it takes someone I know casually to notice.
Have fun working for that first comment!

I agree about it taking a little more time that we would like it to. We are working hard and want people to notice. When I lost 140 pounds on Weight Watchers about ten years ago, it took about a 50 pound loss before people started to notice. This time I am not telling too many people. I keep track of my own progress to keep me going as well. Not only do my clothes feel better, but I also notice my fitness level is increasing, things are getting easier for me to and in general I feel better. I think pictures are a great idea as well. I just took a few last week and plan on doing so every 6 weeks. Keep up the great work!

I completely understand wanting the noticeable changes. It always feels so good to have someone else say, "Are you losing weight?" My husband is usually the LAST to notice, because he sees me everyday. My motivation is so dependent on those comments, or the numbers on the scale...

Thank you ladies!!! I have noticed my clothes feeling looser. & I can feel changes. I just can't wait until it starts to show,, its just crazy when people know your on a diet and they can't see any changes so they more or less look at you like "Have you even been trying??" The only other person that notices so far is my hubby,, Thankful he sees.. but then again he sees me naked lol So he should notice the deference lol Thanks again Ladies!!! emoticon

Being that I lose in my bust and face/neck first, I would say that there were noticeable changes at about 15-20 pounds lost. Seems like a long time to wait. Why is it that the weight doesn't come off noticeably in the areas you want it to, like your belly? Hang in there. For me, feeling the difference in clothes is great and almost make me walk a little taller.

I noticed my clothes fit better after the first month, my size 18's were too tight when I began, and now I fit comfortably in a size 16. I can tell in the waist and the butt. Everything else still feels the exact same. Ugh! But I have been doing a lot of walking. Maybe I need to work out my arms and back. I have fat rolls on my back. ugh! LOL!

It took me losing about 50 pounds until I really started to see a difference when I looked into the mirror. You'll start to see changes more when you look at pictures. It takes a while for your brain to catch up with your body. Mine is still catching up. I don't see what I truly look like still in the mirror!
