last night was kickboxing and I burned 1046 calories...this 4000 a week goal is tough but I know I can do it.
I've had people make comments about how much I'm burning in the time frame I'm doing (how can I burn 1000 calories in an hour?). Here's the thing, everyone is different and everyone burns different. I do my kickboxing on Monday's (usually burn right around1000), zumba on Tuesdays (usually around 800-900) and Wednesday and Thursday is cardio with weights. On the cardio I do ellipticals, I find they are the easiest on my knees and back. They also work out the arms and legs so I crank up the resistance to 9 with hills that go to 11, keep half an eye on my strides and go to town. With the weights, I am doing some body building but I try to make it so it's somewhat cardio as well.
I keep my weights to the point where I can feel the weight (arms I'm usually at 15lbs dumbbells), if I go light I don't feel it. I don't go for pain just for the little pull that says I'm working it. I do 3 sets of 12 with a 45 second break in between. Gives my muscles enough time to get blood flow, but not enough to slow my heart rate down too much. Then I stretch for 10 - 15 minutes.
This works for me. It's taken me a while to figure out what works great for me. It's all about listening to your body (we teach our kids this concept during potty training then we ignore it as adults), and figuring out...what am I going for here? For me, I'm going for power! I want to be strong...I want bumps on my arms that don't jiggle. I want to be able to wear shorts and a tank without thinking I need to cover something up because I'm embarrassed (as opposed to covering up because I burn like a piece of toast).
Keep it up to all of us. I won't say good luck, because it's not luck. Its determination, drive and desire. Work strong!
