I feel a little more alive

Friday, April 06, 2012

Got some good sleep last night so I feel somewhat normal today. Really looking forward to the weekend.

Tomorrow the Y where we go is having a Jungle Book parent/kid yoga class. My little one loves yoga so I'm taking her while the boys play video games to their hearts content.

Sunday is Easter and the kids will get to run around doing the egg hunt thing, then we're having brunch with my mom.

It should be a nice weekend. Hoping that all my prep and hard work yesterday will pay off and I won't have to scramble over much on things. Just got to keep up the pace a little longer.

too tired

Thursday, April 05, 2012

so today was a super early day and tomorrow will be another...I was too tired half way through my day to walk without bumping into things so I figured I am safer not going to gym.

We got the green light to hire someone, now we have to wait for the corporate process to do their thing and I may get some relief by end of month. I cannot keep this schedule up, I can handle working 10 hours a day for a week maybe. But I need to recharge during the weekends and there's been bdays and other events (plus even more work) that I haven't been able to recharge.

The working out has been great for keeping my energy level up, but even that gets to be too much. I used to be able to do this for months, but that was when I was 20's. Now not so much. I feel bad because I'm so tired I can't play with little one like I usually do, we play a little but then I get worn out. She's so cool, tonight she said "you lay down and rest mommy, you tired". So sweet yet bothersome too, she's gotten used to me saying that for the last week.

Oh well this is only temporary and all I can say is...I HAD DAMN WELL GET A RAISE OUTA THIS!

Good idea on not going to the gym when you can't walk without hitting things! You'll get through it, and thankfully this is a long weekend, so hopefully you'll have a chance to get some rest.

Good luck with the work issue. Just bear in mind that these times seem like hell when we're going through them, but luckily they fade away quickly once we're done with them.

quickie again

Wednesday, April 04, 2012

did not want to get up this morning so I'm running a little late...I can still be on time to work, but I wanted early.

Anyway, things are still crazy busy at work. We're hoping to bring on someone full time in the next week or so and the summer help starts in May so relief is in sight.

Last night was zumba and I rocked it. There was a little girl next to me, she couldn't have been more than 8 or 9. I felt so bad for her on one hand, this kid is 4' something and had to be close to 100 lbs. I don't blame her on that and being a busy parent myself I have a hard time blamming the parents. But I thought it was great that mom (who is quite large herself) and daughter were there together. I tried to talk to mom but she really doesn't speak English well. So I let the kid know she was doing a great job and it will get easier the more she does it. I asked her to translate for her mom too. Very nice people.

One thing I have wanted to do for a while is have a parent/kid boot camp. I just think it would be fun. I think after this busy season is over, I'm going to look into trainer certification. I would really like to help some of these families become healthy. Too many kids sit on their butts at the end of the day and play video games, and it's really easy for a parent to let them at the end of hard day. Anyway, its something for me to look at.

I was actually inspired by one of the biggest loser contestants a couple of seasons ago. He lost a bunch of weight, got certified and teaches boot camp to parents and kids in his home town...just seemed like fun

That's a great idea, Tara! Kids love to get dirty and play in the mud, even just having an obstacle course or something for them to do would be amazing - I think it would be fun, too! Let alone a full on boot camp!

gotta keep it up

last night was kickboxing and I burned 1046 calories...this 4000 a week goal is tough but I know I can do it.

I've had people make comments about how much I'm burning in the time frame I'm doing (how can I burn 1000 calories in an hour?). Here's the thing, everyone is different and everyone burns different. I do my kickboxing on Monday's (usually burn right around1000), zumba on Tuesdays (usually around 800-900) and Wednesday and Thursday is cardio with weights. On the cardio I do ellipticals, I find they are the easiest on my knees and back. They also work out the arms and legs so I crank up the resistance to 9 with hills that go to 11, keep half an eye on my strides and go to town. With the weights, I am doing some body building but I try to make it so it's somewhat cardio as well.

I keep my weights to the point where I can feel the weight (arms I'm usually at 15lbs dumbbells), if I go light I don't feel it. I don't go for pain just for the little pull that says I'm working it. I do 3 sets of 12 with a 45 second break in between. Gives my muscles enough time to get blood flow, but not enough to slow my heart rate down too much. Then I stretch for 10 - 15 minutes.

This works for me. It's taken me a while to figure out what works great for me. It's all about listening to your body (we teach our kids this concept during potty training then we ignore it as adults), and figuring out...what am I going for here? For me, I'm going for power! I want to be strong...I want bumps on my arms that don't jiggle. I want to be able to wear shorts and a tank without thinking I need to cover something up because I'm embarrassed (as opposed to covering up because I burn like a piece of toast).

Keep it up to all of us. I won't say good luck, because it's not luck. Its determination, drive and desire. Work strong!

oooh that plyometric sounds cool. I might have to try that.
Honestly I don't do much with the legs on Wednesday and Thursday because Monday and Tuesday are so focused on legs. Monday with the kickboxing there are a lot of squats and kicks. Zumba...well nuff said, it's dancing.

I love that phrase btw...eat clean train dirty...it's great.

You're like me, Tara. I too burn much more than the sp numbers tell us. I love ST but needed to work on a program that wasn't so many days a week because I lift a lot of weight too...and my dumbbells are 15's also!

I did my own creation of a plyometric routine using lighter dbells yesterday, just because it was my first time doing a weight routine that requires quick movement LOL. Didn't want to hurt myself! A ton of squats and lifts and my heart rate was working at 80 to 90% the entire time. Did supersets on a couple of the moves to get the HR way up there!

My legs are on fire today, the arms are a little sore too, but it's leaving me open for a little bit of upper body today followed by some cardio to help loosen up my legs!

Listening is key...and something most of us have to constantly remind ourselves to do. That and to eat clean and train dirty! LOL

Hope you have a great day!

quickie blog

Monday, April 02, 2012

This weekend went really really well. Both kids were awesome (had a minor glitch in behavior with the boy but only at bed time because he was so dang tired). I love how both kids really get a long, and how my step son really enjoys the big brother role.

We went to the park on Saturday which was nice but muddy. Poor little one is going through another growth spurt so she's tripping over EVERYTHING including air. Saturday she tripped into every mud puddle we came across. I would say she's doing it on purpose but she was getting so upset because her shoes were getting dirty (girl!).

Didn't do too bad on my food this weekend so I'm pleased there. Would have liked more time to rest up but I had fun so that makes up for it.

Sounds like a great weekend! I'm glad your kids get along, I know it can be tough, especially with blended families (I'm from one, too).
