16 Months of Maintenance

Nothing profound to report. Today marks 16 months of maintenance.

My body fat is in a good place. My lean mass is in a good place. My overall fitness is in a good, but not peak, place. And I'm happy. That is not profound... except that it is late February and all of that is true and for many, many, many years I could not have imagined saying any of that, let alone all of that, in the dead of winter.

Finished up the most massive of the units in my FNS course. Looking at the rest of the course I hope it will feel like a rock rolling downhill. Fingers crossed, anyway. If I can knock off a few more units in the next few weeks I will think about taking the first aid/cpr/aed certification I need should I want to pursue a training certification. Still MUCH more interested in the nutrition end of things than the exercise end of things though.

House still in good shape :-) Not perfect with the kids home on break but quite good.

On tap for the weekend -

Doctor's appointment for DD tomorrow combined with a trip to the science museum. DH will meet us in town for dinner. Not sure where we'll go yet... have a few interesting places in mind.

Before the storm hits, DH and I are going to go out to breakfast on Saturday. That's our February date and February is almost over. It's right next to the grocery store so we'll also do our shopping for our snow-bound meals. Hopefully there will be a movie or two that looks good... or else we can play games with the kids.

Sunday will be stormy. So not pleased to have a third weekend in a row marred by a snow storm. We will certainly end up 'trapped', unplowed, on our private road for a chunk of the day. Guess DS will have LOTS of time to tinker with his engineering science fair project!

Then back to school.... and routines.... next week. Another February break for the history books. We never travel for February break. The weather is too iffy (as this year's break bracketed by 2 snow storms shows). It's a good thing the kids don't mind a good chunk of nothing-to-do in the middle of the school year! (And one or the other always has a big project to work on.)

    Good for you maintaining 16 months. That is an accomplishment. Good luck with the winter storms. I hope you enjoy your date and your Feb break despite the weather.

This was a CRAZY week. Lots of ups and downs. Ups were a wonderful Valentine's Day and a general feeling of contentment. Downs were the unexpected death of a family member who never let anyone know he was sick and stress surrounding the blizzard and DH's work. My weight has been on a roller coaster in the last week - I think (and hope) - mostly because of water retention due to poor eating/drinking choices. I breathed a sigh of relief when I dipped below goal yesterday morning and went ahead with my planned splurge dinner for Valentine's Day. My weight was back up this morning but not horribly so. I need to keep an eye my eating choices for a bit, I think.... especially since next week is February break which I usually find quite stressful.

Fitness is going very well. My lean body mass is over 38% on a regular basis which I am very happy about. Body fat is right around 20% which, when I'm not retaining water, looks really good on me. I'm enjoying my heavy lifting workouts but skipping more of them than I'd like. I missed last Friday due to the blizzard and didn't do anything at home to replace it. I missed this Wednesday due to a day at Children's with my daughter (routine stuff) and didn't do anything to replace it. I justified both by saying that I run 3-4 miles AND do a Centergy class on Thursdays and that's 2 workouts but, the fact is, that I usually do that AND workout every other weekday. So... keeping an eye on that too.

The house is doing GREAT. I love having a clean house. We had the best Valentine's Day and part of the joy was that the the house is so clean that the background for pictures is 'perfect' (I hate a picture spoiled by clutter) and I'm so on top of the kitchen that it's easy to clean as I go now.

We're on February break here. DH and I do session 3 of 4 for our wine making tomorrow and we're going out to dinner at a very cool sounding restaurant after. We're taking the kids to IKEA on Sunday to pick out something funky for their rooms. Not sure what we'll do on Monday but DH is off so it would be nice to do something. Then Friday we have a day in Boston (so, yes, another skipped workout) with some fun and some medical stuff. In between my son needs work on his science fair project and hopefully we'll all get some good workouts in. The kids have been slacking worse than I have been! No clue at all about next weekend.... hopefully something fun with the kids.

    My strength training workouts always seem to be 'skipped' sessions. I don't know why, since I enjoy them. It may simply be a timing issue.

Another week has come and gone. Still maintaining my goal weight easily. Still working out 4-5 times a week. Feeling strong and faster. Happy.

I have now had a clean house for a month. I honestly can't remember the last time the house was this orderly for this long. I hate hate hate housework and used to resent doing so much for the family that they were capable of doing. I decided that that was only hurting me - the resentment AND the refusal to just do it myself. I am 'at peace' with the idea that if I want my house neater than the others want it to be then I have to do the work.

I'm still making progress towards an always-company-ready house which is my big goal. It's much like my progress towards fitness. I started small and every day I do the small and move towards the big goal. Right now that means every morning I make time for my 'chores' - the basic things that keep the house going. On Monday and Thursday I do this even before I go to the gym! Then in the afternoon I make an hour to address deep cleaning or 'projects' - things that aren't up to snuff yet. Some day I want to get to repainting, decorating, etc but I know I'm not ready.

No date for DH and I last weekend. We were going to go out to breakfast and do the next step of our wine-making on Saturday but with the blizzard on the way I suspect we won't be able to do that. BUT DH's office (and the kids' school) have already closed for tomorrow so I'm thinking we'll have plenty of time together over the next 3 days and MAYBE we can sneak out on Sunday.

Fingers crossed we keep power through the storm! Seems like we just dealt with multiple days without power because of Sandy (which fried my computer... which lead to me getting out of the habit of being on sparkpeople everyday)!

    My house, as well as my life, has also been much more "orderly" lately (by decision). Funny set backs last few days - first I cooked a turkey just to have the turkey in the freezer since I like turkey. Deboned it, took it on trip with us so I would have it on hand, and then found out that I left a large package in the rv freezer after the freezer had been off for days (to the trash). Then made a special casserole (with chicken I roasted on grill) for valentines day on wednes. - cooked in oven and everything so dh and I could just warm it for a special valentine dinner on thurs. Went to warm it up last night and couldn't find it! I had left it in the oven after turning the oven off. Maybe I'm not so cut out for this organizational life lol.

Celebrated another month of maintenance. Go me!

I wrapped up the 2nd phase of The Female Body Breakthrough and moved into the third. Since this is my second time through and I'm doing it just for me, I skipped the horrid 'matrices' she has in the 3rd phase. This one has lots of heavy lifting and I love it! I'm lifting 2 days a week these days.

I'm running 5K 2x a week, in intervals, working on my speed. I run 'fast' (7.5-8MPH now) for 90-120s then run 'slow' (6MPH) for the same, back and forth. I wish I had a real idea of what one does to run a 5K in less time. There's probably a book out there on that! No races scheduled right now, although there's one on my birthday that I might run if it's warm. That's a big if in late March in New England!

House is in great shape and getting better. I'm approaching it like I did getting my body in shape. What I did at first is now routine and now I do 1 additional hour of work on whatever seems to need it most. It's f-a-b-u-l-o-u-s to live in a clean and orderly house!

I'm enjoying the heavier weights with strength training, too. Granted, I'm progressing faster with some exercises than others. My goal is to lift 2x a week and hopefully that will help the results come through.

Life is Good

Maintaining my weight loss, enjoying my exercise. Floating along over and under 20% body fat which works well for me given it's not bikini season.

Spending a lot of 'energy' on decluttering and housework. Now that exercise is habit, I need to see if I can make keeping house habit. I detest housework. I doubt I will ever enjoy it (like I do exercise) but I DO enjoy a clean and orderly house. That's my focus!

Happy to report that I'm regularly running 5K in under 30' on the treadmill now. Working on speed so I do some intervals at 7MPH and, just today, started doing some at 7.5MPH. It will be warm before I know it!

Last weekend DH and I started a batch of wine at a local shop where you make wine on the premises and then we went out to dinner at a new restaurant 'in town'. It was very nice. We have reservations for The Melting Pot next weekend. This weekend we're going to do more 'family date' type stuff.

    Good to hear life is going well. I, too, am decluttering, cleaning ( which has never been my thing). Yet it feels good to get it done. Learning that the more I get rid of, the more time I have for what matters to me.

    I too am working on decluttering my home. I don't know why I find it so hard. I made some real progress about six weeks ago, but have been a little stuck for a while. Time to get back to it. Congratulations on your running progress. My goal is to increase my speed this year. I hope to complete a 5K under 30 minutes. I have been doing some speed training on the treadmill but haven't got the consistency down in that area yet.
