I resolve to be.

Friday, January 04, 2013

Just be. I give myself permission to be whatever it is I need to be in the moment. I've had a year+ maintaining and even longer peaking, stepping back, peaking again in terms of strength/body fat/definition. I am in a happy place with my weight and fitness and this year I don't want to set any grand goals other than to be as happy and content as I can be in my daily life.

Today I am looking forward to nacho and movie night with the family tonight, my daughter's basketball game tomorrow, and my son's track meet on Sunday.

Stay warm my friends :-)

Well, well, well.....

It's been a while!

Hurricane Sandy didn't come very close to us but it did leave us without power. And when power was restored, my computer was damaged. Probably either when the power went out or came back. DH, luckily, has lots of experience building and rebuilding computers and was able to figure out what was damaged (power supply and a memory chip) and get me up and running again.

Life has been NUTS! But I'm still maintaining.... in fact I've been under goal a LOT lately.... bouncing up only when I've had a lot of salt or refined carbs. Not doing as much running because I've had to miss days at the gym due to long volunteering gigs, hospital trips, etc, but I'm still getting my strength training in and running when I can. Body fat is finally dropping so I'm half tempted to not go back to quite so much running.

So... I'm back. It'll take a bit to get back in the swing of things. Looking forward to catching up with everyone!

I was wondering if your absence was due to Sandy.
Glad you are back:)

Hoooo boy and CGG111's Blog Challenge Q11

Friday, October 26, 2012

I skipped my 2 classes on Monday because I needed to be 'at hand' to answer calls from the vet... but I more than made up with them by really pushing myself with my ST on Wednesday, a 6+ mile run yesterday, and a wicked kettlebell workout today. Hoooo.. I am going to feel it tomorrow!

My cat is doing well. Thank goodness. I hope he continues to be OK once the antibiotics wear off. My other big project this week was book fair. I wasn't in charge this year but I wanted to be 'on hand'. Next week I need to deal with a couple of low-key PTA projects and prepare for a big Election Day bake sale. Plus my son is turning 14 on Saturday and my ILs are visiting Friday-Tuesday. I've got a lot of cleaning and baking to do! Maybe I'll catch my breath after Veteran's Day?

Q11. Favorite childhood book and why?

This is SO hard! I had so many. I read all.the.time as a child. If I had to pick one, I'd go with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. My favorite teacher of all time - Dr. Sandra Giragosian - read it aloud to my 4th grade class. It's special just because of that but it's also special because it was my introduction to a kind of literature that I hadn't really been exposed to and which I really enjoyed as a child and teen - fluffy and entertaining on the surface but dark and darkly funny underneath. Most of Roald Dahl's stuff is like that and I went on to read tons but Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is still my favorite.

CGG111's blog challenge Q10 & Running

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

The Blog Challenge Question is Q10. Post a picture from your day.

I had my hair colored yesterday and made a pretty big change so I figured I'd share that. I went blonde a while ago and have just been doing that (no highlights or lowlights for months). My hair was starting to feel too 'white'/'light'/'cold' so I decided to add lowlights. I gave DH the choice - red or brown - knowing that red will fade out on me in a few weeks (always does, no matter what) leaving me with golden brown. Red was his choice.

My hairdresser was afraid she hadn't gone dark enough but I was pretty surprised with how red it looked so I'm glad she didn't go darker!

Running update:
Running for 2012:
152.5 miles + 3.5 miles = 156.0 miles
no race booked... thinking about an 8K on Thanksgiving.... if I don't book it soon I may not be able to... and maybe that would be OK. I find 5 miles a big daunting.

Deep Breath.... and CGG111's Blog Challenge Q9

Monday, October 22, 2012

The weekend was a blur.

Saturday we putzed around the house. DS had a big project due today that he'd been struggling with. Luckily he admitted that he didn't think his ADD meds were cutting it about a week ago and Saturday was his first day on a new dose. He banged it out and I hope he gets a great grade because he needs to boost his grade in that class. I, honestly, can't really even remember what I did except futz the day away anxious about he would feel on a higher dose. I know he needs the meds but I hate the side effects. It's a true love-hate relationship. I managed to make a really nice dinner of lamb shanks over eggplant/tomatoes/onion with a carrot-parsnip puree on the side.

Sunday DD had CCD and basketball and then needed to scout supplies for a big group project at school. It became clear during the day that our male cat is having urinary issues so we all started worrying about that. Vet opens in 30' so I hope she can see us ASAP. We mostly hung out around running the errands. I made a pot roast with winter squash and brussels sprouts for dinner. It really was a wasted day - anxiety. BUT at least I didn't feed the anxiety with bad food!

I've been struggling to get my weight comfortably in the 124-126 range. I get under 126 every week but pop back up over the weekend. This weekend I decided to skip the beer. I *know* I bloat every time I drink a beer and I looooove fall beers but I really think that my weekend beer is a big part of the reason why I'm not maintaining 124-126. Low and behold I've been under 126 for 4 days straight now! I'm thinking no more beer until Thanksgiving (if then).

This week is going to be crazy.
Monday -vet visit which may mean no gym visit (but I can do a home workout), grocery shopping, lots of kid ferrying, some friend ferrying, DH gone for dinner so the evening will be odd, and then I *am* watching tonight's debate. MUST do laundry.
Tuesday - book fair work, run at the gym, PTA work, kid ferrying. MUST clean the house.
Wednesday - gym workout, book fair, kid ferrying (they get out at 10:45AM), make-ahead dinner, PT appointments for the kids, book fair during and after dinner hours.
Thursday - gym workout, another early release for the kids, friend ferrying, another evening book fair PLUS packing up. DH will bring us dinner at the book fair because it's so long that night.
Friday - home workout, put out fires I've not addressed earlier, volunteer all afternoon at the school

And my house is a wreck!!!!! I have GOT to address it. And goodness knows just how sick my poor kitty is and just how much rearranging I will have to do to make sure he gets everything he needs this week.

9. 5 Questions for someone famous dead or alive.

I really, really, really have no idea on this one. Someone famous? I usually don't care much about 'famous' people - at least if famous = celebrity.

So.... I'll go with President Obama. And I am going to ASSUME that, for this challenge, he has to tell me the true. No spin. I want to know what he'd say in private to his wife in answer to these questions.

1. What will your administration do to get recent college graduates employed full-time in the fields they are trained to work in? What will your administration do to get those who have lost their jobs back to work?

2. What will your administration do to improve the quality of K-12 education in America?

3. What will your administration do to make AFFORDABLE, QUALITY, TIMELY healthcare available to all Americans?

4. What will your administration do to end deficit spending and get the deficit paid off?

5. Watch 2016: Obama's America. What is true and what is false and what is true but misconstrued?
