One Year Maintenance Anniversary

Sunday, October 21, 2012

I feel like I'm supposed to have profound thoughts today - my one year anniversary of reaching goal weight - but I really don't. I'm very happy to have made it this far but I it's really just one more day in a healthy life.

One more day of .... eating well - the right food at the right times in the right amounts.

One more day of .... making exercise a priority in my schedule.

One more day of .... managing stress so I don't make poor decisions.

One more day of .... focusing on the positive instead of the negative.

One more day of .... remembering I am worth it.

Autumn & CGG111's Blog Challenge Q8

Saturday, October 20, 2012

I love that today's blog challenge question is about autumn. Autumn is my favorite season! I certainly won't struggle to come up with 10 things I like!

Q8. 10 things I love about fall.

1. The kids go back to school. I don't like this because they are gone so long but their return to school forces our family to return to a routine. I love routine.

2. I go back to my volunteer work. I really enjoy my volunteer work with the schools. I feel more productive when I am volunteering. I just love the school environment too :-)

3. Crisp cool days. LOVE cooler weather. Just LOVE it. It makes me cuddly :-)

4. Mums. They are so pretty :-) And this year I managed to NOT kill mine .... so far.

5. Autumn leaves. They are SO beautiful. I love the extra splash of beauty all over town this time of year.

6. Pumpkin everything. Pumpkin spice coffee. Pumpkin spice tea. Pumpkin pie. Pumpkin muffins. Yum, yum, yum.

7. Book fair. It's a very special part of my volunteer work. I'm not running a book fair this year but I am involved and I just love bringing all these books to the kids.

8. My anniversary. I love that our anniversary is in the fall time. Sometimes I get bummed because we THOUGHT by choosing Columbus Day weekend we'd always get a 3 day weekend and then most businesses dropped Columbus Day as a holiday..... but I'm still very glad that we got married in my favorite season.

9. My son's birthday. His birthday always marks the 'transition point' between back to school and the holidays. It's also, somehow, seems to mark the point where he STOPS struggling so much with school and gets down to business. I hope that's true this year too!

10. Thanksgiving. And I'm lucky enough to celebrate it twice.... once in October because my husband (and children) are Canadian and again in November because we're all American too :-)

I have always loved the colors of fall, but it has always made me sad because I am not such a fan of the cold and winter. Just recently (since I started running and trying to live healthier) have I begun to appreciate the cooler months.

I love the fall also. I am a teacher..and schools are fun because they focus on celebrating each months's holidays. How fun that you have two Thanksgivings and an anniversary to look forward to.

Book Fair and CGG111s Blog Challenge Q7

Friday, October 19, 2012

My daughter graduated from elementary school last year and I passed the book fair baton with a promise to myself (and my family) not to pick it up again at the middle school level. Buuuuut...... the middle school chair had to step down due to a new job and the last middle school chair took on the job because someone had to do it so I feel the need to help her out as much as possible. So.... when she asked me to come in a few hours earlier than planned to help with set-up, I did. Which means my workout for the day was book fair set up. Not very intense work LOL. I was going to come home and do my kettle bell work (my usual Friday work) but my arm is wonky from all the book handling and I didn't think swinging 25-35 pounds around was a good way to settle it down. Hopefully I can get it in tomorrow!

Today's Blog Challenge question......
Q7. Review a product that is a favorite of yours (health, beauty, etc.)

Hmmmmm. I guess I'll go with St. Joseph's Flax, Oat Bran and Whole Wheat Flour products. I try to eat low glycemic index carbs during the week and these products work very well for me. I like how they taste and the texture. I like the nutrition profile. I like the calorie count. I use the tortillas and pita breads. My daughter is a big fan of the lavash and the tortillas.

50 calories for 1/2 lavash (I use 1/4 of a lavash for a wrap that I'd consider 1/2 a sandwich) 7g carbs, 3g of it fiber, 5g protein, 2g fat

Tanya: I have been ordering st Josph's pita bread from Netrition.com. I think the bakery prices are lower and am glad ot hear about them. I will try the tortillas and lavash. Like you I am eating as low gylcemic index as possible on carbs also. I also love the flavor and nutrients and high protein count.

Crazy Day and CGG111's Blog Challenge Q6

Thursday, October 18, 2012

Today was nutso.
Had to make breakfasts for 3, lunches for 3, get us all out the door. Then we had a meeting with DD's teachers shortly after school started. Raced off to the gym to get in an abbreviated run and my centergy class. Then killed a bit of time having a post-workout snack waiting for Chipotle to open so I could pick up a lunch for my son. It's 'eat lunch with your child' week at school. God forbid I eat with him but he was more than happy to have me bring him lunch. Then I hung the spirit wear samples for the spirit wear sale I'm running for the school before going off to a PTA meeting. After the PTA meeting I ran one child home while the other stayed for a club and then ran back to get the one at the club. Now I need to take care of home. Stay at home mom.... what a misnomer!

Now for the blog challenge:
Q6. Describe a place you'd like to travel to.

I have always wanted to go to Vatican City. DH and I thought we'd go for our honeymoon but we paid for our own wedding and by the time we paid for the wedding we just couldn't justify spending even more money on a very expensive honeymoon. I'm glad we didn't start out our marriage in debt for a vacation! We're going to get to go next summer with the kids on a Mediterranean cruise :-)

Running update:
Running for 2012:
151.0 miles + 1.5 miles = 152.5 miles
no race booked... thinking about an 8K on Thanksgiving

Just a short run today because the meeting was during my usual run time. But a short run is better than no run. I worked on speed today. There were stretches where I was running 7.5 MPH which is my fastest yet :-)

CGG111's blog challenge Q5

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

Q5. If I were to win the lottery___________.

I would pay cash for our dream house. We live in a basic 3 bed 2 bath colonial with no garage and a 'tricky' lot. I would build a house with 5 beds and more baths, quiet study/practice space for each kid, separate office where DH and I could 'wall off' our stressful stuff, and a large hobby/fitness area, probably over the garage. This would only happen if we won the lottery because big mortgages are stressful!

If it was a -really- big lottery I would find the right people to partner with to start a business here in town dedicated to the social-emotional-physical well being of tweens and teens. Our kids have no place to 'hang', no place to go to socialize (and very little chance to socialize in school), and no fitness facilities. (Fitness facilities for tweens/teens are vanishingly rare and an untapped market, IMO.) I have several friends who have dreamed aloud of creating a space like this in town. I think if we put our heads together we could do it. But no one has the resources to finance such a venture.
