A really tasty burger and a fun App...

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

I've seen on the SP nutrition tracker that a lot people have recorded versions of Red Robin burgers. †I had occasion to be there last week and a wonderful Paleo-ish cheat meal †(not exactly lean, grass fed beef... †And I can't vouch for if the slaw utilized any sweetener or Paleo mayo!). †RR has a new(?) app that allows you check the nutritional value of any of there burgers... And continue checking as you remove toppings, add others, etc. †change from beef, to chicken, to garden burger, etc. †Mayo? †Cheese? †Salad -croutons - cheese? †What dressing did you think was saving you calories??? Did you even know those items were options to add to your favorite meal?†

I wish an app like this existed at every restaurant!

I had the burger with lettuce wedges used in place of the bun that comes with tomato and red onion, †no cheese, +mustard, +pickles, +coleslaw (about a heaping tablespoon in total). †It may sound funny to those not used to southern cuisine, but the beef, mustard, onion, and coleslaw all came together to remind me of a chili slaw dog.... †Ah, sweet food memories!

360 calories total - burger above, side salad w balsamic vinegar (not dressing), unsweetened iced tea w lemon, and ice water w lemon†...

WARNING: this restaurant also offers unlimited quantities of steak fries.... Don't even enter the front door until you've figured out what side you are going to substitute: salad, broccoli, etc.

Not sure if you have Sonic drive-ins where you are, but they also have a nutrition calculator like that online. You can save quite a few calories there just by substituting the wheat bun for the regular bun - I can't figure out how they can pack so many more calories into the regular bun, unless they add sugar to it.

I always hear RR commercials on the radio, none within major drive so I've never partaken, much to my regret. The lettuce substitution was inspired, well done!

Arbys has the on-line calorie calculator as well and their market fresh roast chicken salad with bacon is 260 calories (minus what ever dressing you use if any) and it is fantastic!! but then I am a huge chicken/turkey eater!!! No RR where I live... doing great! keep it up emoticon

Subway also has an on-line nutritian calculator. You can build your sandwich on-line and it calculates the calories, fat, protein, etc. for you.

Tim Horton's has an on-line nutrition calculator as well.

I love it because I can plan my meal before leaving the house.

Exchanging the bun for lettuce was a great move. Being a carbaholic that would of been success for me right there. I envy that you can go to that restaurant and order the way you do. It would be so nice in the future if waitresses can say to you, would you like a bun or lettuce wedges with your hamburger. That is my fantasy for a healthier future.

Sounds good wouldn't that be great to have that app everywhere.
I have never been there...how are their salads, veggie dishes?

I'll have to check that out! We eat at RR more than I'd care to admit! Sucks having one in the mall next to our house!

That would actually be a very neat thing, to be able to do that.

Burger sounds like it was delicious.

Have a great day!

That is really cool. Sometimes if I know I will be at a certain restaurant I look at their website to get options in mind before I go; but, the app sounds even better. My husband had a burger at Red Robin last week when he was in Seattle. I don't think it was that one! emoticon

Late night binge averted... Thanks iPhone!

Monday, January 30, 2012

Saturday I went to see a movie, had a Paleo dinner at the theater - salad w/ vinegar and oil, w protein and lots of veggies. †As I was leaving the theater the "munchies attacked" out of no where... †I found myself actually planning a binge... †All my old favorite foods (as takeout) from a nearby restaurant - I could see the glow of the neon - and hear "all y'alls bad inner children" calling me to come enjoy... †

I quickly engaged the brain, and realized I was actually tired - not hungry. †So I dialed a friend and chatted until I pulled into the driveway - then put myself straight to bed!

Wonder if I'll ever be free from those old temptations or if I'll always have to remain diligent? †

It's worth it either way.... I was smart enough to "call for help" - but the real heros were the Bluetooth handsfree in the car and my Friend answering the phone...

That was a very good victory. I find it is just as you said..when you are tired is when those old cravings surface. I have found that the cravings do diminish over time. I have not really binged in a year.
Calling a friend was excellent!
Have a wonderful day. emoticon

Hooray for your friend being there, answering, and being the voice you needed to keep you away.

I think some of the cravings may linger for a long time, especially if it was a habit or behavior pattern for years. Eventually there will come a point when we stop one day and realize we didn't immediately have that craving, but there's no rushing when that happens.

Yay for you -- that's the great thing about getting small -- you can cash in on everyone else's 'too small' castoffs.

Can't wait till I get to that point!

I did score an adorable apron today as a reward for one of my goals -- check it out on my blog! emoticon

Bet those Jeans came from someone who bought them and could not fit into them. When I organized my closets last year, I found a whole wardrobe of clothes I had purchased and never wore...all a size too small.
good for you

What do Spas and Hair Salons have in common?

Saturday, January 28, 2012

They must buy their robes and button-up capes from the same vendor -- and they are One Size Fits Some... A problem in both locations for me as the "girls" would strain against the snaps in the hair salon and I wouldn't be comfortable until the cape was on OR at the spa when maybe I could wrap the largest robe around the girls, but with every step there was real potential for a "peep show" as there was rarely enough fullness in the robe to comfortably wrap around my ample hips...

Fast forward to today - highlights needed refreshed - went to change out of street shirt and was surprised that the "button-up" cape did just that... With room to spare!

I've been a little anxious about the scale not playing well with me - but realize at my last "low" (which is all I ever record) that I was probably dehydrated. I consider every 5lbs a mini-milestone and I'm 0.4 from the next one and feeling confident I'll achieve that by the end of this weekend!

So while I am still not immune from scale anxiety or desire for instant gratification, I realize it's moments like the one above that really bring home the message that consistency is paying off....

Never, never, never quit!

The only way one size could fit ALL was if it was magical or some sci-fi fabric that adapted. Reality says that label is loopy in the head.

That said, what a great Non-Scale Victory to find yourself within the sizes that it DOES fit. emoticon

500 SparkGoodie Points and a Sister Update...

Thursday, January 26, 2012

Woohoo - 500 goodie points at sign-in (best part - "Goodie Spa Day"; worst part - points only count toward goodie total, not toward level points).

Sister's first week dieting: she weighed in this week and is down 4 lbs -- I couldn't be happier for her!
