Mission (felt) Impossible...

Sunday, January 08, 2012

Went to see a movie yesterday - can you guess which one?  The favorite theater has an age restricted balcony seating area (no one under 21) with full bar/restaurant service at your seat - dinner and a movie w/o a step!

Okay, so I thought I was prepared:  I knew there were no diet friedly food options (they have some healthier options, but most have a bread component), and we'd just finished a late lunch.  So instead, I ordered a club soda w a slice of orange and settled back to enjoy the movie.

Two+ hours later, the movie has ended, and I'm totally craving some really poor food options (sweet, salty, and fried).  Since I was only halfway to my step goal for the day, I Ieft the theater and stopped by the local sporting goods store to check out the clearance racks - I'm just starting to fit into some of the XLs!

Well, as it turned out, I think I "walked" myself right out of the cravings over the next hour (distracted myself is more like it!).  I think Ethan Hunt would have been proud of how I dodged a potential binge....

So where did the cravings come from anyway? I think it was a "habit" - go, have a drink, order dinner with another drink, mindlessly consume calories while watching movie, and maybe stop for something sweet on the way home.

Next time I head to this movie theater (and it is a luxury I allow myself), I think I'll bring my own pre-portioned, diet-friendly snack with me to ensure I'm not tempted and to hopefully start to build new healthy habits instead!

WOW, NICE JOB, GIRL!
THE IDEA OF TAKING YOUR SNACK NEXT TIME IS GREAT, TOO.
I LOVE POPCORN AND WHEN I GO IN THE DOOR AND SMELL
IT I JUST GO CRAZY, SO I USUALLY POP A BAG OF THE HEALTHY JOLLYTIME
AND PUT IT IN A BIG ZIPLOC AND WITH ME IT GOES IN MY BIG PURSE.!!
SAVES MONEY AND IT IS HEALTHY.
WELL DONE...BE PROUD OF YOURSELF!!

Just dropping by. I like to read new to me blogs. Way to go! I have a cinema cafe that my husband and I like. One of the few healthy choices is a veggie tray with carrots, baby tomatoes, black olives, and celery. I'm sure the dip isn't fat-free, so I go really light on it. I get a bite or two of whatever husband's ordered. I also found a cup of chili is pretty good. I think those are the only two really good options, but it works for a great night out. Your bring-your-own plan is a good strategy. Likewise sidetracking yourself with the clearance racks. It's so much fun to start dropping sizes!

    Congratulations! emoticon

I don't go to the movies, so I don't have that problem, but the weekends in general just kill me because I am out of my routine. I browse like a free-range cow...all day long

You should be proud of yourself for having the willpower to not eat soemthing that you would have later regretted.

I suffer menu blindness...especially when I go to a place that specializes in burger type fare. I don't see salads at all.
Glad you were able to walk out the craving heebie jeebies.

The craving will ALWAYS pass if you don't give in. ALWAYS! Do something, anything, and it WILL pass. Only when the urgency has passed can you figure out the right thing to do. Congrats!!

Good for you for waiting till the craving goes away. I use to love to get buttery popcorn at the movies. It is still hard to walk past it but I think about all the calories and say if I give in I will only have about 200 calories to eat for dinner. I sneak in a snack (usually a banana) as the theaters here do not allow outside food.

It is fairly common for a little exercise to blunt appetite. In fact, my workout schedule coincidentally occurs around my late afternoon-early evening rumblings. Within 2 or 3 minutes my hunger subsides completely and I have some great workouts. Afterwards, I can have a big recovery meal and go to bed happy and hit my calorie goals.

I usually skip breakfast (works for me, may not work anyone else) and around 11 or noon, I'll start getting pretty hungry. A piece of strong mint gum will make that go away for an hour or so.

Those two things are great for battling hunger when you know you SHOULD NOT be hungry. It's important to be able to distinguish between real hunger and your brain just not being with the program.

mo·ti·va·tion   [moh-tuh-vey-shuhn] noun
1. the act or an instance of motivating,  or providing with a reason to act in a certain way. Synonyms: motive, inspiration, inducement, cause, impetus.
2. the state or condition of being motivated.
3. something that motivates;  inducement; incentive: Clearly, the company's long-term motivation is profit.

Or...

Going to a meeting with people you haven't seen in a few months and having them notice you've lost weight......

emoticon

I know I still have a long, long road ahead toward final goal, but it was real validation to note that all the hard work so far is noticeable - that's motivation that I'm on the right track and motivation to keep up the focus, eating plan, and exercise!

Under the weather...

Thursday, January 05, 2012

Been fighting a bug (sinus?) since New Years Day, several flights and meetings later, I found myself in Atlanta with a ridiculous cough, a throat on fire, and sinuses that post-neti pot were "productive" again within 30 minutes.

Cheers to prescribers being available in many national pharmacies. I went in at 9am, no lines, had my scripts filled and was back to my meeting by 10am. NP listened to symptoms, what I had done for symptom management, BP and pulse were great, full ENT check and she asked Me what antibiotics I had a good history with since I'm allergic to penicillin.

Taking care of ourselves is more than just eating right - know when to say enough is enough and get into to see a healthcare professional. I've never been in and out of a prescriber office so quickly and won't hesitate to use these types of services again for "acute" illnesses.

Taking Care of Me! Are you?

2012 Vanity Goal

Monday, January 02, 2012

A fabulous pair of high fashion leather boots by next fall - currently have to buy "big girl boots" so they can zip up over my calves....

And you can bet those boots will be made for walking - and strutting! Start walking boots!

All for vanity. I think it is healthy to be vain and want to look good. You can still be a good caring person and be vain. That's how I see myself anyway.

This is too funny! I had exactly the same thought - boots never fit me well and I thought maybe if I get this weight off I'll buy a pair of knee high boots. To celebrate. You know. emoticon

What's wrong with vanity as a motivator? I'm tired of all these "just gotta be healthier", like there is something wrong with wanting to look better. The health will follow. Good for you!

Ut-oh...

Still got some work to do... Two people messed with my emotions a little this week and I was ready for one big, bad binge.

Good thing I had my new jeans on (smaller and I look good!) and I was able to control the damage!

Reflection - why when I'm stressed about personal relations do I want to head straight for food to provide "comfort"/fill the void/anesthetize my feelings...

Guess I'll be spending a little time journaling tomorrow!

Have a safe and Happy New Year's Eve!!! emoticon. emoticon. emoticon
