Paleo with Cravings: Protein Shakes or PMS?

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

Trying to determine if cravings last week were related to PMS, Protein Shakes, or both! Hmm... Guess I'll have to experiment this week with a protein shake for breakfast and see if I end up having cravings for the rest of the day... But not today! Breakfast was beef with peppers and cucumbers....

There are only 4 sugars in the shake - but as a Paleo, to me they taste every bit as sweet as a fast food milk shake!

Any other people out there who try to avoid sugar/sweetners find the "sweet" taste of protein meal replacement shakes throw you into cravings?

I recently tried someone's recipe for a smoothie that actually did fill me up, as she claimed it would. But usually a smoothie would leave me hungry.

I don't drink shakes. I live on fiber one bars for meal replacement.

For me, it's not the sweet taste that does it. I generally use fruit only as sweetening. There's just something about a liquid meal, however substantial, that doesn't say "I've had a whole meal."

Time to Kick it up a notch - C25K: W1D1

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

Sorry I've been MIA. For the last several weeks (months...) life has thrown more than a few hurdles and turns in my path that have stalled my focus and weight loss. I've regained and lost the same 2-5 lbs over this time and I'm now just irritated by the whole process! I need to get back on track for me, my personal goals, and to ensure I can be the best person possible for my loved ones.

Fud: I got away from recording my food. Over the last week, I've gotten back into the habit again. I was staying Paleo, but portions were more than necessary.

Activity: Okay - walking 10K steps a day has been great... and something I plan to keep in my arsenal for maintenance! However, it's just not enough when combined with the food quantities to keep me losing weight - and I still have a ways to go. While I'd been adding in other types of exercise and strength training, I was not being consistent.

Consistency bring success for me, so I needed something to lock in on. So now I find myself preparing for one of the final steps in my "journey toward health" - I posted earlier on my SparkPage that I want to do a 5K mud run. Now is the time to prepare for the 5K portion.

I finished Born to Run and am re-inspired.

This morning I completed W1D1 of what should be a 3 workout a week process for 8 weeks.

I've never been an athlete. So I researched running technique/form, been analyzed for foot strike, and purchased an appropriate pair of running shoes. I'm working with the "Ease into 5K" app...

Let's see if this is a new healthy habit I can pick-up with consistency!

Stressful week - but no weight gain!

Sunday, July 01, 2012

Okay, my glass is half full!

While I may not be showing the weight loss I am working towards, I am not showing weight gain and I think that's awesome!!!!

If all goes well, I'll be settled and back to regular spark activities within the next few weeks - until then my goal is to keep a Paleo lifestyle, ensure adequate activity, and NOT gain a pound until I can get back to a place where I can start losing again.

I've got my rose colored glasses on... but that's how I prefer the view!

Chinese Buffet - with a hibachi station...

Friday, June 29, 2012

Should be called an Asian buffet because they also have kimchee, sushi, and Pad Thai!

Best part is in the back of the restaurant they also have a flat top grill that they use as a Hibachi station. You chose your proteins/veggies (they also had noodles), sauce of your choice - I skipped those, and the chef grills right in front of you.

Perfectly Paleo!

Best wishes for a healthy weekend!

Forget the size - it's all about the fit!

Sunday, June 24, 2012

During my 10K steps today, at the mall, I decided to play dress up at Needless Markup. I put on a skirt, shirt, and jacket and went to the surround mirrors to check things out.

First let me reinforce that I will always have curves - that's just my body style, and I know how to dress my body to highlight the good and camo the not fabulous! I need clothes that work for the girls (darts or knits work best), that are more generous in the bottom for the hips and thighs, yet also need to be nipped at the waist to accentuate that I have one!

At any other store I'm currently wearing at 14-16 depending on the cut/style. At Needless, I fit comfortably in a size 12 jacket. Hah - just to prove the vanity sizing issue I mentioned above, the Jacket was priced at $450! I don't think Macy's even carries a suit that costs that much, and I won't buy the Macy's suit until it hits the clearance racks!

Since it was 20 lbs since my last photo update, I added a shot of it to the gallery for anyone interested!

Morale of the Story: Fit is everything. Ignore the numbers. Clothes are cut differently and if you find something you like but it doesn't quite fit right, buy the next size up and get it altered to fit your curves if necessary. You'll look great and feel fabulous!!!

You are so right! And something I've been complaining about. The vanity sizing is ridiculous! In the 1980's I was 125 pounds and considered chunky and wore a size 9-10.At 115 pounds, I wore a size 5 in the 1990's.
After three kids and 125 pounds, I wore a size 4-6. At that weight I was considered too thin. Now I don't care what people think or say and I weigh what I want to weigh and think the vanity sizes of 00-0 are stupid! I plan on making my own clothes that go by measurements.
Keep up your great work~!

You have a great curvy body IMO and look like a size 9/10 in your pants pic. I agree it's all about the fit, not the number on the tag.

If it fits good then you're going to feel better inside and you come across feeling more confident which makes you look good. Ah, such a circle but it's so true. Love the look, by the way, of the jacket with the skirt.

Very true! The vanity sizing today makes me laugh. 20 years ago and 20 lbs lighter I was a size 8...today I am a 4. Makes zero sense so I go for the fit. No one sees the number but me and the number is just a number and I choose to focus on the ones that actually mean something (how far/fast I can run, how many pushups I can do, BP & cholesterol, etc.)
