Vacation? No, not exactly. I'm going into the hospital on Monday for surgery and my surgeon told me it will be a 5 day stay if all goes well.

I could take my computer with me, but have decided against it. I will instead take the time to rest and recover so that I can return to my regularly scheduled program as soon as I am able.

I will miss you, my Spark friends. Be well and stick to those goals!!

Being thin = new disguise?

I have discovered one slight disadvantage to the weight loss. I have run into people that I haven't seen in awhile and they don't recognize me!

Of course, not being recognized COULD be a good thing. Especially if I didn't really like the person in the first place.

But yesterday when we were at the Farmer's Market I ran into someone I knew and she didn't recognize me. Since I DO like her I really wanted to talk to her. I actually had to tell her my name! She asked how I lost the weight and I told her about SparkPeople. She says "I've been hearing so much about that from other people". Well, she heard about it from one more person - ME! And if seeing is believing, I would say that she will most likely become one of SparkPeople's newest members very soon.

The saga continues

It's been 5 weeks since my surgery and I am almost myself again.

I ended up having some additional problems due to the Heparin I was getting after the surgery. It really messed with my monthly cycle in a bad way. As a result I am anemic and have lost more weight. The funny thing is that I've been eating a lot more and exercising a lot less in an effort to build my body back up.

Things have leveled out now and my blood work has come back with better numbers, so that is good news. Plus I'm feeling great, which is even better news!

A year later

Okay, so it's been just over a year.

My SparkVersary was actually almost 2 weeks ago. Honestly, it came and went without my noticing. I had been so focused on recovering from the surgery and adjusting to the aftermath of that surgery that I hadn't paid attention. But here we are, a year later.

I reached my goal weight, and even went beyond it a bit within the last month while being sick. My actual weight is now 124, (wow 64 pounds lost!!) but that may likely change as i get my appetite back. I look back over the last year and I realize just how hard I worked and how very proud of where I am today.

I have worked hard and have learned so very much along the way. SparkPeople is just full of wonderful resources that really helped me through it all. I learned so much, and am still learning new things as time goes on. But best of all, SparkPeople is full of wonderful, caring, and encouraging people who help motivate each other. I know of people here that are some of the BEST cheerleaders to others, even when they are having a hard time themselves.

So here's to another year. A year in which I hope to give just as much help, hope, and encouragement as I got. I don't know where I would be without it.

What a way to break an 11-month streak

I had been doing so well. Over the past 11 months I logged on to SparkPeople every day, exercised every day, logged all my food, and then it happened.....I broke my streak.

I woke up late Saturday night with excruciating pain in my lower abdomen, bad enough that we went to the ER. Several hours later I was told I had diverticulitis and needed surgery. On Sunday I had a small portion of my lower intestine removed and had an ostomy bag placed. Not cool, but certainly necessary. The good news is that the bag is only temporary. Once the area is healed they will stitch it all back together and I will be as good as new.

Unfortunately that means that my fitness routine will have to change, at least until my body has recovered from the surgery.

On the bright side, after 4 days of living on IV solution I lost at least 2 pounds.

Thank you to my wonderful friend Shanon (also here on Spark) for visiting me and cheering me up. And for walking with me at the hospital, even if I did move at a snail's pace.
