"Year of Me" #1

Tuesday, January 08, 2013

I have come to the conclusion that the only way I am going to be happy with what I see in the mirror is to start looking after myself first!!
I have stumbled around in 2012 and added a few more pounds but that was from unwise food choices, lack of exercise and a lot of stress. Working the night shift has been a problem, I thought, I came to the conclusion that the only problem is in my mind. I need to refocus and come up with solutions to what I thought were problems. ie food choices while at work and lack of time to exercise. I lack motivation and have a negative attitude as well as I tend to want to see results FAST!!! Well, being Hypothyroid - that is not going to happen and NOTHING is gonna happen if I don't do anything at all.... SSSSSOOOOOOO, here is to a new beginning in 2013.
I would appreciate support from all of you as I have very little support at home/work. My husband works 16-18 hours a day (i only see him for 4hrs a day)and at work there just 2 of us on shift. My co worker has a back injury and can do very little so I have to pick up the slack - another source of stress to deal with....

I could go on and on, but i think this is enough for today..........

Glad to see you back on!!

I can see why you're frustrated. It can be hard enough to lose as it is, but with your thyroid acting against you it's an even bigger battle.

Find a way to find at least one positive a day. I find that if you start your day with something that sparks you to stay on track. For me it helps to start my day with a glass of water. Everyone is different but you'll find something to get you to stay on track.

Think of it like a set of dominoes. You only have to touch one to knock them all over, but if you start the chain part way through the pile, the effect won't be as fantastic =] Just something to think about!

The last couple months I started living by this motto (or trying to) - It's not about being perfect, it's about being better than yesterday. That line alone has helped me through a few really tough times =] I'm still here and I'm not going anywhere because I've decided that I deserve the reward to be in better shape and to feel healthier!!

I'm always here if you need someone!!

It has been 1 full week since going dairy free and I must admit, I do feel much better. I haven't stepped on the scales yet but I do know that there is a change in that department as well.........YEAH. I think I may finally be on the right track.
Too bad it only took 10 years to find that track .........

Thanx, Dr Megan !

So, I found this awesome Dr of Naturopathic Medicine and went for my first visit last Thursday. She is amazing --- understood exactly what my concerns were and we came up with a plan together. Medicine alone will only bring my Thyroid up to a 60% working capacity. With her help, we can get it to 85%. That's good enough for me as I know it will never get to 100%.
She did some testing and found that I am still allergic to dairy products - as I was as a baby. I just don't show any outward signs. Sooooo, it's a dairy free diet for me. We will see what happens.

Fingers crossed for a better feeling me !!!

didn't know that .........

Friday, October 19, 2012

So. I have been experiencing some pretty bad knee pain this week and decided I had best get to the Dr. I went this morning AND it wasn't a good visit. He told me that I was fat and that all I needed to do was to lose about 10 lbs and my knees would be just like new. Who is he kidding ---- does he think that I don't realize that I am fat ???? that I have been trying to lose for the past 5+ years !! HELLOOOO ... don't know where the hell he has been but obviously it's not been listening to his patients. He throws me a prescription for Naproxen that he "doesn't like to give"but has never had problems perscribing it to me before, and sent me on my fuming way. Oh, yes, i did get a few remarks in, in my own defense.....
This is what our medical schools are sending out .....no, thanx. It will be a long time before I go back there.
My co-worker has suggested a Dr of Naturopathic Medicine ----am looking for a local one.....

thanx for listening

I used to have a Dr that loved to blame everything wrong with me on my weight. I stopped going to him and just went straight to emerg instead. Seemed like a waste of time but at least I would get some answers. Eventually my Dr retired and I was without for a while, then when a couple new Dr's came to town I applied for now and luckily got an amazing one this time.

I think that's what you should do and then when you talk to the Dr in the ER tell him why you skipped seeing your family Dr - sometimes they offer to take you on as a new patient.

I think you should get another Dr's to have a look or even ask for an orthopaedic surgeon to have a look.

You need a new doctor that will refer you to an orthopedic surgeon. Most insurance companies let you change doctors mid year as long as they are on their list. Knee pain can be serious. It can make you walk differently. That can throw your balance off and cause more physical problems. An orthopedic surgeon will order x-rays and determine if muscles around your knee are damaged. You might need orthodics for your shoes, physical therapy or a knee brace. Some doctors blame everything on weight. We all need to avoid them and force them out of business.

you have to have a referral to get in to see any specialist and my "butt head" of a Dr will not refer me to anyone......

thanx for the massage :) maybe i should book a real one...

I'm sorry you had a butt head of a doctor and you know they see us a little over weight and they don't even want to look deeper into anything cause our weight is the perfect excuse!
Go see an orthopedic guy, you know they tried to say my son was having growing pains with his knees (he's a skinny minny) and it turned out to be lyme disease and I have it also but I had to work hard to get a correct diagnosis cause everyone was calling me crazy (just cause I had it didn't mean he did).
If your not happy with his answer , u get a second opinion! I wish you the best I know what it's like to live with daily pains and it's no fun!
God Bless you and I hope your feeling much better soon! emoticon
