Time to get out of my comfort zone!

Sunday, May 29, 2011

So for this next leg of EPIC we're encouraged to try a new workout. I've been toying with idea of running and taking a gym class. I've been toying with the idea because I don't know if I'm ready. I see people running all the time and I just don't know if I'm ready. Can my body handle that? Can my knees absorb the impact? Can I really carry my weight enough to be able to run? These are questions I won't be able to answer until I at least try. But it's so scary!

As far as gym classes go, I worry about being the only one there who looks like a fish out of water. I've been to classes before where all the attendees are regulars and already know the moves. But I would like the opportunity to try different things. Zumba and Flirty Girl Fitness, both sound fun!

In both instances, I'm holding myself back! I'm putting limitations on myself that I shouldn't. Who cares what anyone thinks. I'll probably never see any of those eople again. Caring what others think of me has always been an issue for me. So for Leg 5 of EPIC I vow to try running, at least once and to take a gym class at least once!

I encourage each and every one of you to try something new this leg of EPIC. It doesn't even have to be physical. Try doing one thing that you would normally never do. Talk to a stranger, go to the movies alone, anything that will take you out of your comfort zone, even if it's just a few minutes!

Well, I think you are perfectly capable of running and I think that when you are in a class, people are so worried about how THEY look, they hardly notice anyone else!!!

But, in all seriousness.... I really think that if you are feeling like you WANT to try, don't hesitate.... live NOW! NOW is the time to go forth and do the things you thought you couldn't... it might not be EASY at first, but as time passes, you will find yourself saying, "What was I afraid of?!?!"

I like this idea! It's funny how that works too, you finally go try something and learn that you love it and it was not nearly as scary as you first thought it would be. Good for you girl, you go get em!

Zumba is amazing fun, PLEASE try it. I just bet you will love love love it. Let me just tell you that I thought I had no rhythm, can't dance, and was going to look a hot mess up in there. And you know what? I just might, but I'm a hot mess with a smile, because it is FUN!

I'm proud of you for being ready to step out of your comfort zone, it is HARD. The fun part is that you are ready to start trying these things, too. I'm going to start the Couch to 5K program on June 1st (wait, omg, is that....Wednesday?!!) because I want to be able to do this mud run thingy in August that looks like a lot of fun. TOTALLY out of my comfort zone. Running, me? Obstacle course, mud....ME?!!!

We can do this. Oh yeah.

I used to take a kickboxing class with a friend at the university's fitness center when we were in graduate school together. That's how I found out I loved it! I also took a step class ONCE, and I totally sucked at it, lol.

I feel the same way about gym classes. I don't belong to a gym right now, but I used to and never once went to a class. I only got myself to water aerobics through our school district this year because of Lillie. I need to be better about getting out of my comfort zone too!

Time for the "I'm gonna shake my booty cause it's smaller dance!"

Friday, May 27, 2011

This might be an inchorent mess because I'm way to excited to sit here and try and write a rational blog. I weighed myself this morning and I lost 8-9 lbs this last week and half!!! So I'm sitting at a total weight loss so far of 15 lbs. I am so excited!!! I knew that clothes were looking different on me and that my stomach didn't seem so big, but I was still staying cautious and not getting my hopes up. To many times I've known that I lost, 5lbs for example, only to get on the scale and see it's really only 1 or 2. I hadn't seen my mom in about a week and she came over and was shocked that I couldn't tell I was losing weight. She said "I know that you have lost something. You look like you're slimming down!" But she's my mom and she loves me and she wants me to be successful so I kinda thought she was just being encouraging, but I guess not!

I needed this so badly. It was exactly the encouragement I needed to keep going. That first couple weeks I was here nothing was really happening. I guess my body just needed a while to figure out what was going on and get on board. I knew I needed to push through that tough time and if I stuck with it I would see results! That's what I did and that's what I got! RESULTS!

Insert Happy Dance Here> Dance with me people! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

A special thank you to everyone who ever encouraged me to not give up and to keep going! Hell, even if you didn't thanks anyway. Seeing everyone on their journey has been such a positive influence in my life! No rest for the weary! Gotta go, got two workouts scheduled!!!

What a happy, happy blog! I love reading these HALLELUJAH posts! I am dancing right along with you, girl! Lillie said take your measurements...listen to her! Sometimes I only had a loss on the inches and even when it was a tiny loss, it made not seeing the scale move feel less painful. Measuring is a great tool for when those times come! Stay on that cloud you are dancing on for a good long while...you earned it!

Pre-picture for EPIC! Don't Look!

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

Well I can't believe I'm doing this, but it's for EPIC so here goes! Here's my FULL BODY (oh the pain) picture for EPIC :) I can't believe I'm posting a full body, no makeup, workout clothes picture!!!

If you can't tell, the sign on the mirror is my motivational reminder about our HONEYMOON to HAWAII that I refused to go on cause I couldn't bear the thought of me in such a beautiful place with my current body! So we're going to try to go next year as a part honeymoon, part graduation trip!

If I can do this, then YOU can do it to! It's a great way to start the next leg of Epic on the right foot! YAY for 10 points!

I agree with Lillie - you are an adorable and beautiful person. I think you actually carry your weight very well. :) I know what you mean about Hawaii, though. 2.5 years ago, I gave up a trip to see my favorite singer live, because it's a small band and he knew me personally and I had gained like 50 lbs since he last saw me. I just couldn't bear to be seen that way. Ironically, at the time I weighed maybe 4 lbs more than I do right now, and I feel great at the moment, haha! I guess it's all perspective. I hope you have a great honeymoon in a year!!!!!

Are you looking to add variety to your workout routine?

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

Have any of you ever used or heard of Exercise TV? If you haven't used it, I highly suggest you check it out! I LOVE them because I can get a variety of different workouts, with different trainers. Plus, you can either purchase DVDs and have them mailed to you or you can simply download them directly to your computer.

I was looking for a little variety to add to my cardio routine because I feel like I'm already starting to get bored with the few that I have. So I was looking around EverciseTV and came across some CRUNCH workouts. CRUNCH is a gym based in Cali, but has locations across the country, and they were the first to introduce spinning and cardio strip tease, among other things. Today I downloaded a set of 9, 20 minute videos for only $18. And let me just say I had so much fun!!!!

I did their famous Diesel workout which is an interval workout with strength training and bursts of cardio for increased fat burn. My arms were screaming and I was pouring sweat at the end. Then I did the Global Grooves video which is like an aerobic dance class that incorporates dance moves from around the world. They show you moves slowly, and then you do them fast, and then you add them all together to form a "routine". If any of you are interested in dance, you'd definitely like them. It was a great full body workout. The moves are pretty easy slow, but when they say up to tempo, be ready to move your ass and move it in a hurry!

I love doing my own workout videos at home cause I can focus more on my breathing, learning the moves, pushing myself, etc instead of live classes where I'll be focused on not messing up and what other people are thinking about me. I actually had so much fun, I can't wait to try out the other videos. And just because I had fun, don't think I wasn't sweating my butt off. My heart rate was up, but I was able to focus on having fun and really getting into the moves versus wondering when the torture will be over. I have to love it, to do it, and these will keep me motivated.

I posted the link below for anyone who's interested!

I love Exercise TV, it's what I've been using since I'm not a good runner (yet) and I cannot afford a gym membership :) Plus, it's so convenient being that it's On Demand.

Yesterday, I downloaded the summer body routine so I can force myself to try some of the other trainers - my favorite is Holly Perkins.

what a GREAT way to start the week!

Sunday, May 22, 2011

Yes! I actually stayed in calorie range today! I usually blow Sundays, so I'm thrilled to get the week started off on the right foot. More good news... I tried on a dress I haven't worn since last summer and it fit! I didn't think it would, but just thought I'd give it a shot. I was quite plesantly surprised at how good I looked! It was a great bit of motivation to keep pushing forward and it was nice to look in the mirror and be pleased by what I saw!

I've got a long, hard week planned for myself. I'm trying to get in the groove of working out for an hour a day, 3 to 4 times a week. I've also been toying with the idea of (brace yourself) running! I just don't know if I'm ready. I read an extremely motivational blog about how to start running and it made me think I could do it. I want to lose a little bit more weight before I start, so we'll see. I don't wanna take on too much, too soon and get burnt out.

I wanna wish GOOD LUCK to all my EPIC buddies this week! Let's work hard and keep pushing forward! We can absolutely do this! Let's make this week better than last!

I never thought I would like running either. I had tried 4-5 times to get going in the past 10 years, but last spring I set an actual goal for myself (a race, with a specific date) and it took! Now I love it! But, it is not for everybody. Good luck!
