Good Day, Bad Day, and Good Again!

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

Today started out so well and fell apart at the end. I went way over my calories. That in itself isn't to big of a deal because I do allow myself one day a week to go over, but I usually save that for Sundays because it's my lazy day. emoticon So now I'll have to really plan for Sunday and most likely cook even though it's normally my day off. Instead of wallowing over it, I reminded myself that I got a great workout in today and burned over 640 calories. I'm not saying that's an excuse, but I've decided to stop beating myself up over "mistakes." I planned out all of my meals for tomorrow and even with snacks included I'll be well within range! emoticon

Tomorrow is my off day from exercise, so I just have to do a quick SP video to stay on track with my Spring Into Shape Bootcamp plan! We might go mini golfing tomorrow so hopefully that'll be some extra exercise I can get in. If we don't, I might do 15 min of light cardio. Did I just say that? Yep, I think I did! emoticon Somewhere over the past couple of weeks I've become "ok" with exercise and that's something I NEVER thought I'd say. Working out almost every day has worked great for me mentally versus working out 3-4 times a week. I find that I don't have to argue with myself about doing it, I just DO IT! For those of you who know me, you know how much of a struggle exercise used to be and how much I used to hate it. Maybe it's Bootcamp that's changed me, maybe I've added enough variety, or maybe it's the results. I am becoming noticeably stronger. I can do jumping jacks longer, I can hold a plank, I don't get so winded, etc. Whatever it is I'm just happy something finally clicked for me. It was horrible knowing how good exercise is for me and dreading having to do it!

They say it takes 30 days or so to create a habit, so I'm hoping that by the end of the month this will be even more ingrained in me. Even after Bootcamp is over, I'm thinking I might still follow the plan with a few tweaks. I plan to do cardio 5 days a week (this includes ST because most of the cardio I do is total body and involves weight work) and short SP videos 3 days a week. I'm currently usin 5 lb weights and I think I'm ready to move up to 8 lbs. I do need some weight training gloves because I'm starting to develop minor callouses and that's no good! I think these are the ones I want!

They have Swarovski crystals on them and what girl doesn't love a little bling!?!?

Cute gloves! I understand where you are coming from about exercise. I usually like exercise (strength training is my favorite), but I lack serious motivation to get to the gym.

the gloves are cute, I think I will need to get some too. And I know how you feel about exercise, I am getting there, still have the fight when it comes to yoga and other stuff but I am getting really consistent with my walking and that is huge for me. Great job emoticon

The title is a lot like you - good girl, bad girl, then good girl again! LOL!

I still don't LOVE exercise, except for ST...cardio may never be my favorite, but we gotta keep on keeping on. I'm glad you are starting to be ok with it. I have a feeling you are going to end up LOVING it...I'm hoping to as well!

I'm glad you're starting to be okay with exercise. I found that it takes about 2.5 months to get to enjoy exercise, so hopefully by mid-summer, you'll be super happy about working out! :D And annoyed when stuff keeps you away from it. :D

I know exactly where you're coming from on exercise. My excuse used to be that I hated to sweat when I shop. lol! Now I'm at the gym soaking my shirt more often than not. And I actually enjoy it! Weird!!!

Do worry so much about a bad day. One thing I've noticed that people tend to forget when losing weight is that this IS real life. Temptations are out there, bad days happen. It's what you do the NEXT day that determines if you succeed.

CUTE gloves, lol. You'll be ok, TaMara! Don't beat yourself up so bad. 600+ calories is awesome, so you probably were extra hungry. I worked out twice yesterday and this morning I was starving. I ate two bean and cheese tacos, but I'm ok with it. We just move on, and keep moving, lol!

May PAC Week 2, Useful Article Link, and more...

Saturday, May 19, 2012

For those of you not on the SA Team, here's a link to an article I posted yesterday: www.shape.com/healthy-eating/diet-ti

It's a list of the top 20 foods that can be detrimental to your workout and you'll be surprised about the foods that made the list. Now keep in mind, they're not saying that these are bad foods and you shouldn't eat them. They are saying that these particular foods can hinder your workout, so be mindful of when you eat them before and after exercise.

Fitness Minutes = HIT
goal - 220 reality - 250

Calories Burned = HIT
goal - 2600 reality - 3089

Weight = Stayed the same
goal - 1lb loss reality - 2 lb gain
BUT it's TOM for me so I'm 100% sure that explains the gain. I'm sad I'll have to wait till next week to see what the numbers really are, but kind of excited because it might be a BIG loss! *fingers crossed*

Thank God for breaks! I seriously could not have handled another day of cardio LOL The way the Spring Into Shape Bootcamp Challenge is set up so that you rest on Sat and Sun, but I think I'm going to rearrange it next week so that my off days are Sunday and Wed because my body needs a day of rest in between. My goal is to stick to the this plan as closely as possible and do my best to work around the wifey's days off so that I don't skip workouts. I'm the queen of excuses so I'm trying not to put myself in a situation where I can makeup excuses to skip exercise.

Besides my car getting towed last night and having to pay $300 to get it out of impound this morning, it's been a great weekend so far! Now I get to look forward to taking those crooks to court since the SA Towing Ordinance states that the limit to charge per tow is $85. Enjoy your weekend folks!

I so understand about TOM. That was me the first week of this challenge....LOL!

I am so sorry to hear about the car! What a way to a mid weekend? Don't feel bad though, the weekend I signed the girls up for camp, I got $35.00 parking ticket at the park.

I've already commented to you about your poor car so I won't here other than to say I pity the fools when you get done with them!

Thanks for the article, it was very interesting and made a lot of sense to me. I know you wanted to see some loss this week but I just know once the bloat is gone you are going to be thrilled that your hard work has paid off!

Maybe I'll Really Do It This Time

Tuesday, May 15, 2012

I've heard a lot of people grumbling about this rain we've been getting because it's interfering w/ them exercising outside. Thankfully I haven't had the problem because I don't normally exercise outside, like walking, so luckily this rain hasn't affected me in that way. But it was so dark and the sound of the rain this morning made it hard to wake up and stay awake! I'm still trying to get back on track with eating right and exercising consistently so I'm sticking to my exercise videos because I know I'm more prone to do them over anything else. Plus, I can burn more calories in less time if I just do a video.

So fa this week I've burned 1387 calories and worked out for 100 minutes! I'm on week 2 of the Spring Into Shape Bootcamo Challenge, which requires we do one pre-determined Spark video (none of which are more than 10 min. long) 7 days/week and 30 minutes of cardio 5 days/week. If it wasn't for that challenge, I would probably only be doing the bare minimum like 30 min of cardio 3-4 days/week with some ST thrown in. The Challenge runs a full four weeks so I'm going to try and stick with it the entire time. I'm hoping that after a month of exercise almost 7 days/week I can ease up on, but still stay committed to my routine.

I've been lucky enough to be able to combine the Bootcamp Challenge with the PAC (Personal Accountability Challenge) we're running on the San Antonio Team. This is the most consistent and persistent I've been in a really long time and I hope it sticks! There is this huge part of me that's scared I'll quit or miss a day and not be able to get back into the swing of things, like I have in the past, and ruin all my hard work. I gained 4 lbs during my last hiatus, which even though isn't that much and I am thankful for such a small number, I HATE having to re-lose weight I'd already lost. In my logical mind I know it took years to put on all this weight and it's going to take a while to get it off. But my 3-yr old mind sees others dropping pounds left and right and I think "Why not me?" I know, I know! This thinking is detrimental to my weight loss and a big portion of the reason I've quit in the past, but I'm determined to persevere! I really want to lose the weight for good and get healthy!

"Keep on starting again and again, and eventually I'll get there where I want to be!" I have been saying this to myself for over a year now, and slowly I am getting there, you are too!

I know exactly how you feel. I had really taken most of the weight from both kids off back in 07 and 08. Then after we moved to San Antonio, I put it back on. Not all of it, thank goodness, but enough for me to feel really, really bad most of the time.

But, like you and everyone in our MAY PAC challenged, I am REALLY determined to do it this time. I know I won't lose 16 pounds before I go face all sides of the family in June, but at least I will be at a better place, and off to a great start....

We will do this TaMara!!! I know we will....

It's hard seeing pounds drop off like that!! I always get so jealous when I see people losing 5-6 lbs a week when I can only managed 2-3 a month at best! And that's when I'm completely consistent and on track. Sigh. But you can do it TaMara! That spring into shape bootcamp is fantastic! I'm glad it's giving you motivation!

ooo i miss san antonio so bad! i feel the same way you do when i see others around me lose weight and nothing happens when i'm busting my butt lol. its hard to turn this voice off. after doing a challenge like this for a month, you might find that you crave that much. usually it takes a month to form that habit and its a great habit to have.

May PAC Week 1 Wrapup

Sunday, May 13, 2012

So this was the first week of the May Challenge and things went great! I reached all of the goals I set for myself and that is in part thanks to the fact that I'm also doing the Spring Into Shape Bootcamp Challenge at the same time! I exercised a little over 220 minutes this week and burned almost 3000 calories! I lost 1 lb, which I am thrilled about! I am really proud of myself for reaching all my goals!! I can't wait to tackle next week!

I'm so glad you kept mentioning the boot camp. I checked out the daily video one day and with the aid of my stability ball I did a bridge for the first time in more than 30 years - and all thanks to you for inspiring and motivating me! I'm happy for your pound of pudge going away. Stay gone, pound...and take a bunch of your sisters with you!

Woo hoo!

Today was Day 5 of the Spring Into Shape Bootcamp Challenge! So that means I needed to do today's video, plus 30 minutes of cardio. Reiko works a 1/2 day today and we plan on running errands this afternoon, so I knew I needed to get my workout in early or I wouldn't get it in at all. The old me would have procrastinated until it was to late, but not today! I got up, ate a yummy breakfast, did a little housework and got right to it! Today's video was a 12-minute pilates video and I did that no problem. As for the cardio, I've been trying new videos everyday for vareity and I found an INSANITY vid on YouTube. It is 20 min long and even though you can't see or really hear Shaun T, you can watch the class doing it to easily figure out what moves you're supposed to be doing. Let me just say, 5 minutes in and I wanted to die haha! It is hard and even the buff guy in front struggles, which says something! It's just so, well INSANE! If you've ever wanted to try it, but didn't want to pay for it, this is a good way to check it out! Here's the link:

That wasn't 30 minutes so I also did Coach Nicole's 8-min Athletic Intervals video and 2 minutes of kickboxing style punches and kicks. I feel good and I'm thrilled to be done with exercise for the day!

I've got some other videos I want to share with y'all but it will have to wait until tomorrow or Friday. I need to hop in the shower! Spark on!

It's way too intense with the jumping and stuff for my joints, but I love the energy of it! I tried this before and while it was too hard on me, I think it is a FANTASTIC cardio work out and fat blaster.

You've got your spark back, TaMara. I love it!
