Nope, I'm not BACK but I've dropped in to say HELLO.
The GOOD NEWS: A friend of ours sold us a good as new turbo diesel ick up truck
The BAD NEWS: Brie and I spent a week in the hospital getting her gall bladder removed.
She was admitted to the Army Hospital right after the stroke of midnight, with gall stone problems. Their specialist was on leave so the next day, they sent her to another hospital to get a non surgical treatment done. Two days later, ther was no progress, so Brie checked ot and returned to the Army Hospital.
At both hospitals, the staff treated us warmly and got me a cot so that I could sleep next to her bedside. I was always introduced as her wife, and the staff was genuinely friendly, Brie had three large gall stones removed from her bile duct and a very inflamed gall bladder extracted through her navel! She has four tiny scars. She was released on the 8th, the day after her surgery. She cannot lift any weight, and she is doing well. I hope the rest of the New Year is not as exciting!
The up side is that I had access to frits and veggies daily and wouls walk twenty minutes every day through out the hospitals for exercise, even though it snowed for a couple of days.

Though I haven't been involved in the Spark program for several months, I often think of you and Brie. Today I decided to check on you, which I am glad I did.

As awful as Brie's situation sounded, there was satisfaction in how you were treated as a couple. It made me happy, knowing that improvements are actually being made to accept diversity in our country. Maybe there will be a better world for our grandchildren after all! emoticon

Now get out in that new truck and head for someplace warm!!!!!

Happy New Year and wish you both happiness and good health and continued wellness for your wife Brie. What a way to start the year. Great news about your New Rig, we have a few diesel Mercedes, we love them, but a truck is something very useful. Take care!

I hope you have a less exciting end to 2013.

May the coming months prove to be less eventful in the medical realm & filled with rich blessings in all areas!

Hello! So good to hear from you. I too have taken a break from SP. I am thrilled that Brie is fine....and how wonderful that the hospital not only let you stay overnight but acknowledged you as her wife. That is so special. Yay on eating your veggies and walking! I was on a vegetarian diet for a few weeks and felt great...then Christmas and NY came and I ate very unhealthy. The last five days I had that terrible flu...was bedridden....couldn't eat or drink hardly anything. So, I was on the flu diet and lost seven pounds. I still have a cough but am back to normal. It seems to affected my sense of taste and though I feel hungry, nothing appeals to me. That's a first! Take care, you two love birds.......

I am no longer active on Spark People but I have learned some good habits. The pumpkin is stuffed with turkey chili and the seeds were roasted without salt. Dessert was yams (canned) followed by walnuts. (I have become allergic to peanuts and almonds) ;( Before the night was out we toasted our perseverance with a sip of Courvoisier. (We've been working on the same bottle for eight years. It's still half full. )
My dog Meri decided she likes pumpkin seeds. I gave her mostly burned ones. And she begged Brie until she shared half her Hungarian Pepper! It is just Brie and I this year. No more big to-dos.
Even though I am not actively participating in Spark, I am still losing weight. I'm 192 and still descending.

    Miss you!

I certainly understand having to cut back on commitments - even good ones like Sparkpeople. The Lord had been dealing with me on that concern throughout the summer months & into the autumn. I have dropped two worthy groups as a result of being obedient to Holy Spirit's leading on that matter.

While away for Thanksgiving, I was up two hours earlier than the rest of the household, so picked up one of Dave Wilkerson's books (nicely supplied in the guest room) & his subject matter was again on time commitment & being in God's will as far as stewardship of time goes. It was like a wonderful assurance that I had heard right & had done His will in cutting back on going & doing - even though the going & doings were not, in & of themselves, bad. They were just not for this gal to be allotting time to. For some reason I just cannot seem to bring the name of the little book to memory.

Your dinner looks tasty! I enjoy “everything pumpkin”!

I have gotten to the age where preparing big to-dos is just too demanding, so again this gal understands scaling back.

I hope that you will continue to stop in from time to time & allow us updates on your progress – both with your health program & your homestead work.

God bless & keep you safely under His wing & reign down His unique & wonderful favor on your days!

Pumpkin goes well in-chili, surprisingly. My daughter in law served us vegan pumpkin chili one Thanksgiving and it was quite good. I did miss the turkey, tho, so we had a traditional meal this year. Glad to hear you are still trimming up. Good for you!

Tee, I am kind of curious: Did you use any pumpkin IN the chili? Like cut chunks up that you scooped out of the gourd?
I Do know that rodents LOVE pumpkins,, the squirrels around her gorge on people's yard decorations after halloween.. I would imagine prairie dogs, field mice, etc are the same.. Not sure what critters you have out there..

I can smell the wood and charcoal of that grill of yours..
We got snow this morning.. no grilling today..

I was so excited to see your post! I too am not as active on Spark People but pop in occasionally for recipes. This year was just hubby and myself, since we were sick.....and it felt nice to not be tempted with lots of food. I roasted some acorn squash with a stuffing of fresh cranberries, orange marmalade and cinnamon. It looked as pretty as your pumpkin picture! And for desert I made a smoothie out of fresh pineapple, banana and almond milk. Love to you and Brie!

I, too, have backed away from the daily routine of "SPARKING" on line, but keep you and Brie in my thoughts and prayers. Though I am not losing weight, I have not gained any, despite our Thanksgiving feast.

There were just three of us this year at our Thanksgiving table, but I still used my Mother's linens and china. We also made all of the same recipes. Today I am appealing to family members to come over for leftovers. Your meal sounded delicious.

My love to you and Brie. Every once in awhile I check your sparkpage to see what your latest adventures are. I greatly enjoy your pictures.

Brie and I put all our batteries and tools and hardware in a bucket and climbed on the roof again. We have ten foot 2x6s on the roof and we screwed three of them into place crosswise to the roof beams! We worked for two hours but the wind kept get stronger and the batteries kept getting weaker. We made good progress on the roof. Earlier in the day, I cleared out a corner of the music room/studio/den for Sabrina's new workbench. She can rebuild carburators all winter for fun and profit. I'll be across the room painting!

I insisted that Brie buy a work bench. It weighs about 90 pounds. She and I can lift it but not very high. Luckily, our utility trailer is low to the ground.
Today we did our fuel run and filled twelve cannisters of gasoline. So I deadlifted 35 pounds twelve times and set them in our trailer. Half way through our feuling, we topped out our discount card. So I ran a quarter mile to the WalMart and added more money to the card (It's 10 cents LESS per gallon) and ran back. (That's more running than this chunky little body has done for a while!)
When we get home we reverse the procedure and unload her work bench and our gasoline.
So running didn't kill me. And weight lifting didn't kill me. Gee think I could make a habit of this?!!!

Had a great time airbrushing shirts at the county fair. I barely broke even, but I made good contacts and orders are still coming in! I stayed on my feet for hours, but I ate too much fair fare :( Some of my equipment is heavy, but I didn't spend much time lugging it around. I found a picture of me from 20 years ago. Or should I say 50 pounds ago?!?!

I am pleased with my art work, but NOT my weight!

Brie and I at my booth.

I think you look cute and Brie too!

The shirt is adorable, goes without saying. There is something I really like in your Skinny Kid picture, I think you should paint it. The hat, your smile, eyes and eyebrows. They make an interesting picture.
