Resistance Training

Thursday, November 11, 2010

begins today.

But not for my biceps,
or triceps,
or even my pitiful abs.

I am training my resistance.

I need to be strong enough to resist
the whopping hunk of manna from heaven, I mean fresh baked bread, that I love with my salad,
the cheese-a-paloozas I regularly stage,
and the sweet du jour.

I need to be strong enough to drag my big butt off this plateau. Something has to change.

I want this. But I also want all the sugary, cheesy, carby goodness life has to offer. I can't have it both ways.

I need to start small. I will focus on sweets. No sweets on alternate days. I think I can do that.

My resistance is officially in training.

This is so funny!! We sound like true "sisters". There is nothing like fresh warm homemade bread!!! OMG I have to quit talking about it!! The key to resisting for me is making sure I don't get ravenously hungry (a challenge for all of us). But at the same time, I think you have to treat yourself with something you enjoy every now and then. I woke up thinking about yummy apple pie the other day (which is my personal favorite). Last night, we went out to dinner and it was one of those specialty places that had a show case of wonderful homemade deserts (to die for I might add!!!) Anyway, they had this little slice of apple pie with a caramel topping. . . well needless to say, I had one (with ice cream) and you know? I wasn't even guilty. I can't remember the last time I had apple pie. Now I'm good till maybe once during the holidays . . . LOL!!

You can do this. You're mind is made up and that's most of the battle I think. Take care, Jan emoticon

Small changes are best. I love sweets in the evening - but eating frozen fruit (especially mangos & bananas) goes a long way to satisfying my sweet tooth in a healthy way.

    I saw a good quote:

"Love your body more than the food. Comfort comes from within."

Coach Dean said you have to decide which you want. The one for the moment (food) or the one (good health) for your life.

Pull those thoughts out when you're having trouble deciding which you want most.

It's easier for me to resist the first cookie than it is the second one when I just want more, more, more.

Love your kind of "resistance training"...I'm gonna do that, too!

Far be it from me to discourage someone from doing what works for them. I, however, have chosen to enjoy the things I love but in smaller portions. 1 square of dark chocolate. 1 piece of homemade French bread (vs. half the loaf). 1 oz. of cheese on occasion.

So if you find total deprivation too hard, try my way. Just be sure to make room in your calorie range for it.

And yes, of course you are stronger than a cookie!

One day at a time.....baby steps!!! With each opportunity to be "bad", you can choose.......do you want the fat or would you rather shed it? Not every day or every other day, but EVERY time the opportunity raises it's ugly head!! emoticonYou are emoticon And never forget, you are strong!!! You are invinceable!!! You are......ok, I won't finish the lyric, but you get the point!!! You are too strong to feel you can cave to this stuff! You're an intelligent woman and look how far you've already come!!!! Not by caving so much, right? Sorry about the butt kicking, but I'd want you to do it for me!!! Just want you to be happy and healthy, friend. So, resist away, but don't sell yourself short. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

FIREWORK by Katy Perry

Play the video:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGJuMBdaqIw

Read the lyrics while you listen:

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
Drifting through the wind, wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards, one blow from caving in?

Do you ever feel already buried deep?
Six feet under screams but no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there's still a chance for you?
'Cause there's a spark in you

You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause baby, you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go, oh
As you shoot across the sky

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go, oh
You're gonna leave 'em falling down

You don't have to feel like a waste of space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe you're reason why all the doors are closed
So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will blow
And when it's time, you'll know

You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go, oh
As you shoot across the sky

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go, oh
You're gonna leave 'em falling down

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It's always been inside of you, you, you
And now it's time to let it through

'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go, oh
As you shoot across the sky

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go, oh
You're gonna leave 'em falling down

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon

It looks WAY better than the sample photo you posted on the 4th. They should have you as the model instead of that one.

    Maybe

Things to consider

cons

They are awful to grow out
They can be limiting on styling
If your a runner and you are trying to grow them out it's awful - nothing like inhaling your own bangs!

Pros

You've got a great face shape for bangs!
They are a great frame for nice eyes - like yours
and I have no idea of how old you are so don't be offended but they do give a youthful look!

Consider this your INVITATION...

Thursday, November 04, 2010

...to my PITY PARTY.

I'm not doing well. My mojo is shot, my eating is out of control, I have raging PMS (complete with spontaneous crying), this plateau is turning into the Great Plains, my house is a friggin' mess, I feel old, and fat, and miserable.

The one thing that I have been maintaining is my fitness routine. But I still LOATHE it. Almost a year into this and I can't even muster up a SMIDGEN of desire to work out. And that increase in energy y'all talk about? Yeah riiiiiiiiight. It ain't happenin'.

Something has got to give and unfortunately I know what it is. I need to change my eating to start the scale moving again, which will probably mean drastically reducing the amount of sugar and fat that I eat, which will result in me losing the will to live. WAAAAAAH! I don't have the powah.

And just to be totally off-topic, should I get bangs? I am trimming my hair tomorrow and I am considering bangs to cover up my aging, expanding forehead. I've never had bangs as an adult, and I don't know if I can deal with having hair on my face all day. What do you think?

I know how you feel! I was stuck in a plateau since February 2010 until last month. What I had to do to make the scale budge was really refine what I ate. I still eat what I want but within moderation. For the fitness aspect I did the Jullian Micheals 30 Day Shred and the Eliptical on most days for the month and I lost 5 lbs and 5 inches...Good Luck!

Have you considered clean eating? It's how I kick started my way to Vegetarian, and now Vegan. You don't need to take that drastic of a turn. But when you start to give up the bad foods, and just eat the good foods, it really makes you feel much better. That with your exercise, and you should see a difference, that will give you that energy, you really need. It all goes hand in hand, you need one with the other, to make it actually work.
When I started Clean Eating. I began, with not eating any processed foods, everything I had was home cooked, and made with all fresh ingredients (I was still eating fish, chicken, and turkey at this time) And when I read labels, I made sure there were NO hydrogenated ingredients (This is Trans fat, hidden under another name) And I made sure sugar was at least the fifth ingredient, and not the first 4. I started with baby steps. And I lost 46 lbs in 6 months.
Now I am a total Vegan, and have never felt better than anytime in my life, than I do now. The key: No processed anything

OR might I ask WHAT is MISSING in us.... that don't wana! LOL

maybe getting bangs will put a little zest in your step and get you "feelin' sexy" and ready to roll!

i think i said before, and i will say again, its ok to eat high, have pms, stress eat, etc, BECAUSE you are staying active, i think its important to give ourselves permission to just chill for a minute, and live, if u dont forbid it, it will happen then PASS. i hope it phases out soon and you are feelin more like your sparked self. if its any consolation i am totally scaling back on cals here too to try and push out of maintenance mode, so i will be thinking about you on my cheesless or breadless or excessive veggie moments to help me get thru it ;)
