bleh week

Saturday, November 13, 2010

nothing too exciting to report this week. i was under the weather AGAIN so took it more easy.

3 runs
1 swim
1 mtc

ds was home sick a couple of days with pink eye. then i got sick. didn't get actually pink eye though. just another strand of cold.

last week my weight was down to 142.5 steadily. this week it has remained the same. a little more fluctuation as i haven't tracked this week and i am sure sodium intake is up. way too much mental effort to do that. i had lots of time but no drive to track. tomorrow is a new week and fresh start. hoping for an attitude adjustment over night.

mid week i had hope we may go to cancun in january as dh could attend a conference there. it was a dream for 18 hours then it died. i told dh though that we are going next january or february (2012) for sure. not sure what we will do for holidays next year yet. pretty sure in feb i am going for a 4 day cruise that goes from LA to somewhere in mexico and back. need to work out those details. dh will be in phoenix in march with the boys. need to figure out a family holiday even if it is whistler for a week in the summer.

i was thinking about doing the muddy buddy run in portland next year?? amee?? this years was in october.

my throat hurts so time to go take some tylenol. enjoy your sunday everyone.

Funny, this week has been bad for me too, including eating several cupcakes and an entire package of oreos in one day. Boo. Back to tracking for me for sure! Cruises sound like fun! I want to go on vacation! I did New Zealand this year so I am sort of on lockdown. Muddy Buddy portland, FUN! I did one here in SD a few years ago with 4 friends and we had a blast!
Sorry you are all buggy like me, I am officially tired of coughing up green stuff for a month! Ugh, hope we both are better ASAP!

I have a dream too... about traveling someone in January.. originally it was supposed to be Florida, but now I'm thinking more along the lines of Hawaii... which would turn out a lot more expensive however... but we saw these good deals from Cleveland... so I got tempted.
Anyways, my weight was up, I felt yuck and had PMS.. great combo, huh? Plus like Amee said... time change... no good- you'd think getting that extra hour would be fabulous, but instead it made me more tired at night. Oh well, let's make this week a great one!
Feel better- make up your vitamin uptake?!

Hope you're feeling better, Jen. As for a winter break... I'll bet Carnival is having some good cruise deals on trips to Mexico right now, LOL! :D

SO here's a stupid question...do you change your clocks up there too? My bleh week I think had a lot to do with the time change. Suddenly dark super early but waking up during the night and waking up at 3:30am ready to go. I wondered if that could be affecting you too?

Ooooh a holiday! Sounds fun! We haven't been able to take one in a loooong time. So I will travel with you, vicariously. Muddy Buddy? Sounds dirty. lol! But interesting. You know the Portland marathon is in October next year. 10-09-11

Get better! Please. no fun being sick.

tracking still.... sorta

Friday, November 05, 2010

i have been tracking most of the week. at least 80% of the day. on days i work out i am getting small deficits (300-500)and on days i am not i am breaking even. i am sorry but i just don't have it in me right now to eat less than 1700 cals in a day (that is my bmr). no results showing on the scale but i have tom right now so my weight is fluctuating up crazily. been thinking about getting a hrm again. however, i could be either really disappointed i am not burning the calories i think i am or i could be sad i am completely out of shape and burning lots of calories lol.. it is a lose lose situation lol.

my back was in really rough shape at the start of the week. upper right shoulder blade area. hard to describe. then i make a doctor appt and it seems to go away magically. so weird. WHY DOES IT ALWAYS DO THAT?? FRUSTRATING. however, i did not do any st this week because of it. will start fresh with week 3 of mtc next week.

no exciting plans for the weekend. it is supposed to rain. i work on saturday and i plan on doing nothing but taking ds to a movie.

have a great weekend everyone.

Yeah, I'm also doing the HRM pro/con thing... I've never thought that burning a ton means I'm out of shape though... I just think I worked out extra hard. One thing the HRM initially helped me with was making me work harder or less hard... but I don't necessarily believe that it is 100% accurate, because people's heart rates vary.. so take it all in stride. The reason I got rid of mine was to not focus my workouts on calorie burn, but on working out-LOL.

I love that you are going to pick up where you left off with MTC, sounds great! I hope your back stays pain free for you! As far as the HRM goes... Well, when I first got it I was a bit nuerotic about wearing it every time I worked out. Then I went through some stages where I stopped wearing it all together because if I didn't meet my goal of 3500 cals burned per week or more, I would sort of adopt and all or nothing approach mentality. Now I like using it for big workouts as more of a tool to know when I am pushing too hard or to kick myself in the pants when I am just phoning it in! I am not attached to it like I use to be. It is a useful tool, and that is all it is. Anwho, just thought I'd share with you. They do excite me, and I sort of want to get Dana's Garmin in a bad way, because of how fun they can be! Good luck with your decision!

What movie are you and Hayds going to see?! I think you should just keep making doctors appointments and then cancel them right before since that is making your pain go away, right? lol! Don't remind me about TOM please. I'm just a couple of days behind you. I say yes on the HRM but I'm addicted to techie things. Sorry you have to work today.

Happy Halloween

Sunday, October 31, 2010

happy Halloween everyone!

I am having a crazy saturday night as per usual here on spark.

had a nice day. weather was good. went for a run this morning. when i woke up this morning my hip hurt. i planned on doing 5-6 miles. i really thought i wasn't going to be able to do anything. i made ds some breakfast. felt a bit better so i went out and did 3.5 mile. however, the run went great for the most part. i averaged less than 11 min/mile for the first time in a long time (that includes 5 mins of walking for warm up and 5 for cool down).

after that we went to watch ds soccer game. they are just too cute out there running around in that big group. after the game we hung out with neighbours on the street pretty much all afternoon. then ds and i carved pumpkins. i attempted a tranformer pumpkin and it didn't turn out too bad.

tomorrow no huge plans. hang out and have a quiet day before trick or treating.

had a pretty great work out week again:
3 mtc
3 runs (although one ended up shorter than i hoped
1 spin
1 xt elliptical session

i got the exercise thing. need to focus on diet again more. on monday or maybe even tomorrow i will start tracking again.

Jen, what a cool pumpkin! And Hayden looks soo cute. Did you show him the Bumblee costume video on you tube? If not, I bet he’d get a kick out of that. How’s the tracking going? Good job on the run…nice of your hip to ease up to let you go. :D PS Loved Captain Franco the pirate dog. Lol!

Sounds like a Plan! Now take care of the Hip Thing- don't end up like myself! Ignoring any continued pain can lead to serious issues that may be Permanent! emoticon

making the cut (again) week 1

Sunday, October 24, 2010

had a great work out week.

3 runs
3 mtc
1 spin class
1 core work out

this all with having the never ending cold. i was never really OMG sore but had a little soreness. just the right amount. even with all that exercise i took 2 complete rest days.

i really wish i was one of those people that lose my appetite when i am sick. seriously i think i eat more sometimes. maybe cause things are not tasting right?

food was not so great. had a couple salt binges. probably not over doing it on the calories as i tracked most of the week but just bad salty choices which make me go emoticon.

so no weight loss this week from mtc. not that i am trying to lose a ton of weight. hoping to get down to 138-142 instead of the 140-144 i seem to be sitting at.

super busy week. my sis was busy unpacking her new house and i watched her 4 boys ages 8 months, 2, 5 and 7. add my own 4 year old in there and i am lucky i did not go crazy. ok get crazier. babies are exhausting, nice to look at, nice to snuggle, great to give back!!

yesterday i drove up to my sister's in the afternoon to have dinner. so excited this is a possiblity. won't happen every weekend cause it is 100km one way and about 1.5 hours of driving but it beats a 3 hour flight. on the way there i stopped at one of my favorite stores (mec) and bought new running capris, cheap gloves for running and a new little light in case i run outside at night.

so i am going to have a great week even if my never ending cold which seems to be getting worse today doesn't go away. it has seemed to move from my head to my chest. bleh!

Wow, you did have a great workout week! Great Job Jen! I am impressed! emoticon
I totally agree with the "give back" portion of babies, heehee! I am so happy that you sister is a bit closer now, that must be a relief in some ways that it won't be as expensive or as hard to visit her! I am ridin the tides at about 144 myself and have similar goals for weight, I plan on starting P90x soon, I have just been uber sick- again like you, and have been working 6 days in a row that seemed to back fire on my getting organized plan! Oh well! Cheers to MTC!

making the cut (again)

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

so i started mtc again. this will be like my 10 billionth time doing it. ok, i know it isn't that much but i have lost track. love my mtc.

did day 1 yesterday and day 2 today. i am still able to walk and sit!!! we will see tomorrow though as i am taking a rest day. ok, rest for exercise as i will be babysitting 5 boys under the age of 7. i am nuts. sure my blood pressure will be through the roof tomorrow night. a stiff drink may be in order.

oh yeah, back to mtc. since i have been doing new rules of lifting for women for several months i was doing low reps and heavier weights. mtc is more like 10-20 reps and due to that i have to use lower weights. i haven't done 15 reps of anything in so long. it was really tough! i am glad to say i can count past 12 still!!! lol

as a runner.... even though i am slowing down to the point i may have to call myself a walker soon... endurance is my game. mtc is more about muscle endurance than pure strength which is what i need. i am hoping this will help with my running and on going injury issues.

mtc is designed to do 4x per week however i just can't see myself fitting it in so i will be doing it 3x per week this round so it will take me a little over a month. so that is 3 runs, 1 spin and 3 st days. some of those will be combined days though so i will take rest days!

not sure if i will count calories though. not sure if i want to lose weight. i am happy with my appearance mostly. however, i do know that the 10lbs extra i am carrying around do affect my running and i could possibly be speedier if i lost a little which would also make me happy.

i forgot about this from runninforfitness.org

OK, the babysitting thing would drive me around the bend!

Interesting point about the weight / time thing. I have lost a couple of pounds and have noticed a difference with the running... I wonder if it makes a difference if the gain is muscle v. fat?

Enjoy MTC!

Lovely, yeah, I would like to see what height that thing is on! I am with ya on the slow-train for runners. I am taking things really easy in that department, just don't want to end up on the bench again. Congrats on some MTC action! I love that program!

Ooooh you ARE nutso! 5 boys under 7? I wonder if I would survive. I forgot about the sitting part in MTC. Lol! I think it’s good that you’re switching it up…light/more reps vs heavy/less reps. Currently doing the heavy/less myself. Change is good! Wait, so is that form…does it take height into consideration too? I’m going to have to check that out. I’m working now to get back to the weight I was when I first started running and was much faster.

I've never done MTC... is that the one from the book? I think that it'll do you good though... especially because you believe in it!

And yeah, the smallest runners are the fastest for a reason..

I LOVE LOVE Making the Cut and did it 2 x this year and it completely changed my body. The lower weight w/ higher reps is just exactly how us girls should work out, learned that the hard way. I do it at home using 3, 5 and 8 lb dumbbells and get an awesome workout! don't worry about going too light! I noticed I was dreading starting it this last time, but once I'm exercising I realize how good it feels, I love to lift (better than running right) and I get a better workout doing MTC than anything else. So in love! :)
