i have returned to the land of spark

Friday, August 15, 2008

i am back from Hawaii with a tan on my skin which is VERY rare for me and a general relaxed feeling. i guess that is what a holiday should be???

i am however exhausted right now. we flew the red eye last night and it was the first time in months or even a year i have had a migraine. not sure if it was something i ate that triggered it or just pure exhaustion and tension but i was unable to sleep and was fighting nausea and tears the entire flight. my angel boy though slept through 2 out of the 3 flights thank god and only had one understandable tantrum this morning in seattle (i was close to having one too).

the trip in all was great. we were staying in condos so i ate pretty much what i normally ate drank with the exception of a 12 pack of diet coke over the week. yes i am CRAZY!!!!! i splurged on diet coke - lol. we spent lots of time at the pool as ds decided he didn't like the ocean. this is the same boy who is obsessed with the ocean. the first day there he was playing in the waves for hours. he was getting tossed around and loved it. then he got knocked down no more or less than the hours before. he stood up then announced to everyone "i'm done" and started to walk to the parking lot. after that we only got him back in the ocean once. he was though content sitting on a towel drinking his "pop" which was in a can so he thought it was beer like uncle and papa had.

i loved Kauai. i have been to Hawaii 6 times in my life but it was my first trip to this island. i loved that it was quiet and very rural and the fact that there isn't a ton of distractions like shopping there. i did get 2 Adidas bras at costco for $28. besides that didn't get a whole lot. a couple of souvenirs for my son.

i did get in 2 strength work outs and 4 runs total. i ran on the treadmill a couple of times for a measly 2 miles each and did a 3+ mile run a couple of times outside. i was in aw of the other tourist runners out there not chugging back a water bottle like me as they ran.

i really missed my husband on the trip and really wish he came. it is a long story on why he didn't but we are planning on going to Disneyland in January or February as a family.

I'm seeing this really late but wanted to welcome you back. I'm glad you had a good trip overall. The migraine sounded awful though. I'm glad that DS hung in there through most of the return trip.

Sounds like a dream. :) I'm glad you're back but man oh man, so jealous. HAHAHAHAH :D My DH used to live in the pacific and he had to fly with stops in Hawaii many a time, and visited on occasion growing up. I can't stand to hear his family talk about their time in Hawaii so casually... hahahaha :D it makes me so JEALOUS!!! :D But really I'm happy for ya. ;) Sounds like you had a very healthy vacation as well, so go you.

Yay welcome back! It sounds like the trip was successful, despite the return migraine...sorry about that, no fun. Your little guy too...how incredibly cute. Imagine being done with the ocean. That's hilarious! Glad you guys had a great time. Disneyland will be fabulous. Have you been before?

It sounds like a great trip! I have never been to Hawaii, so 6 times is pretty impressive! Now, I'm curious where in the US you live--- from CLE, the flights to Hawaii are sometimes MORE expensive than to Germany! Plus, my PTO bank doesn't seem to want to go anywhere-LOL!
Hey, as lons as DS was content sitting on the towel by the beach--- it's all good! At least you were able to hang out there!
As for vacations without you husband! I know exactly how you feel! When my DS was 5, we went to Fuerte Ventura for a week without Dan and it turned out one of the most fabulous vacations- it was at a decent resort, but the island was just absolutely gorgeous and the trip was so fun- that I have all these memories and I still tell Danny we wished we could show him the place!
But, going to Disneyland should be cool-- my boys didn't want to go when we were in Anaheim--- we ended up going to Universal- not my choice and not fun at all ( I mean, it was okay-- the best part was running up like this long flight of neverending steps-ha!
So, welcome back to Sparkland and airports/flights invoke tantrum attacks in me, as well-LOL!

Welcome back, Jen. Relaxed is good. I love Kauai too. When I mention it's my favorite Hawaiian island, my daughter tells whoever is listening that it's the only one I've been to. I'm sure it'll always be my favorite. emoticon

ALOHA

Wednesday, August 06, 2008

I am out of of her tomorrow morning super early to go on our trip to Hawaii. I will be back next weekend. I am still a little bit nervous about 2 plane changes alone with a 2 year old but I am sure hoping we survive. Watch cnn tomorrow to see if we kicked off a plane since my son somehow picked up the word "die" today and is obsessed with fireworks "kaboom" right now. He also has that eastern Mediterranean last name which doesn't always come in handy at customs.

I have to say it is freaking hot right now. In our back yard it says it is almost 40c. GROSS. My stomach is so upset right now from being out there soaking my feet under the umbrella in the kiddie pool. I will likely od on imodium today and not even make it to Hawaii. I guess we are going to Hawaii to cool off and sit in the ac - lol. Actually my tummy is probably upset due to a lack of liquids after my hill intervals on the treadmill this morning. I need to drink more and so I will.

So I will catch you all later!

HAWAII??? Ooooh la la!! Have a blast!!

And I think no slurpees and no doritos is a good goal! Though now I really want a slurpee.....mmmm.....

And does the no buying of crap in Hawaii include no buying *any* clothes, or just no buying crappy clothes?? Some of those Hawaii shirts are soooo cute! hehe.

AUGUST GOALS

Friday, August 01, 2008

So as I am at work here typing out my August goals I am drinking a Slurpee and having Doritos for dinner. Mind you I think this is my first Slurpee since 2005 but still.

My goals for August are...

no more slurpees
no more doritos

ok i am done.

Ok maybe not.

So my real goals are:

run 60 miles
do strength training 2 times per week at least
ride my bike at least 1 time per week
no buying crap while i am in hawaii (clothes, food, misc)
