tomorrow is a new day with a fresh start

Thursday, June 19, 2008

i have been struggling a ton lately with my diet. i avoid my food tracker at all costs. not probably for the calorie content but more of the quality of crapola i have been shoving in my mouth the last month and a half.

i don't like to make excuses. i hate excuses. when i do look back though my diet disaster started about the same time i started taking bc again. i haven't gained any weight however i am craving bad carbs and fat 24/7. i am starting to rationalize my poor food choices..... i'll skip dinner so i can eat chips. i have eaten more fast food over the past month than i have in the past 6 months. i am starting to hate food which is a very dangerous path.

i will say that no external factors have changed in my life. no new stresses or issues arising. yes i do have stresses and issues like everyone but i am not handling them well. my anxiety is through the roof. even little tiny issues are driving me nuts and right to the fridge or tears. i will stay on this birth control for another month to see if my hormones level off but if not i will either get rid of bc again or ask the doc for something new.

i rather be hormonal because my body is craving a baby than for dumb reasons like the hose is in a kink (yes this put me over the edge today hence the blog).

i am also going to try to block those cravings and get rid of all the crap food out of the house so i am forced to make better food choices.

Oh yeh, I have had issues with BC and didnīt even realize the 24/7 cravings issue was related. Yes, I am slow at times-LOL. I can definitely understand how you feel and I highly suggest going to the doctor ASAP, while trying to eat more balanced in the meantime. I had some hormonal/ feeling sick to my stomach due to my BC, until my doctor pointed out that BC ( the reason for taking it in the first place for me) is supposed to make me feel better, not worse. I actually stopped taking it and see if I can regulate my cycle.

It is so much easier to say, please donīt worry as much, but hormones, well, they have a mind of their own-LOL. I know you will figure out what is right for you --- in the meantime, stay strong, be kind to yourself and take full advantage of those moments when you are feeling good!
Good luck !

Awww, I'm sorry to hear it's been so bad!!! Definitely BC can be a factor what with the hormones and all, and if it started happening at the same time.... but getting the food in the house under control sounds like a good start, and hopefully the hormones will level off like you're saying. *HUGS* I really hope things start looking up soon!!!!

Big hugs Jen!! Hang in there. Hormones can be so brutal. Don't feel bad about the food. We all have bad spots. Whenever I get off track it seems to last an entire month. In fact last month I couldn't keep myself out of the cookie dough and I would skip dinner so that I could eat more cookie dough. I know you'll get back on track. Sometimes we just need a break from the whole healthy eating routine. I think that's a good plan to give it another month before you decide whether or not to ditch the BC. It kind of seems like it's most likely the culprit, but hopefully it will fix itself as your body adjusts. I know my body can't handle BC pills, I turn into a homicidal, blubbering mess which isn't fun for me or anybody around me.

Oh Jen....hugs to you girl. You were having anxiety before the BC pills though, right? If you can afford therapy, I'd highly recommend that. I had some major emotions I was bottling inside and therapy really helped me get rid of all that junk. I only bring this up because I remember the days when writing a grocery list would make me snap and/or cry. Everything seemed overwhelming. Oooh and what about Flylady.net? Implementing her routines into my household made a huge difference in helping me feel that I was in control. I don't like seeing you like this and I feel for you. I'm not throwing you a pity party though, I know that's not what you want or need. You're strong. But do get some help. It could be the BC and/or it could be a combination of other stuff and issues that need to be dealt with differently. emoticon

Wow- you just described me...I went on BC for the first time in March, and I was doing great....May came and something aweful came over me; I have been trying to figure it out since, and every time I think about it, I tell my husband it HAS to be the BC...but I dont know for sure because I have never taken it before. But I have come to hate food- never a problem in my life- I have become a binge eater- big time, which again has never happened. I am so anxious all of the time too. Everything sets me off. I have an appointment to talk to my doctor about getting something new. I have not gained weight, but my mood is something terrible. By the way, what are you on if you dont mind me asking? I am taking YAZ.

Turf girl I was just going to do a blog when I was going through what people have written and I just have to say we are on the same page..I have not gone to my nutrition page in over a month, because I too dread writing in CHIPS as dinner, or a ice cream cone... just cannot seem to get away from that lifestyle, I exercise daily and eat good for the most part of the day, my eating habits sux after 4PM..so what I am saying you are not alone ...hang in there, and lets get back on track..I think if we go and put in what we ate , we would have to account for that right and that just might motivate us back into the better food choices???     Take small steps, don't try to just change EVERYTHING over night. I too, have been in that spot. It is a bad spot to be, because it is like you do not have control. You have to take the control back. Right now all the food probably makes you feel better only temporarily. when you take the control, and treat your body good, you will feel good permanently. I know that it is hard, but if you can get that control back, even for a week, I guarantee you are gonna feel great. Good Luck, if you need someone to talk to I am always around!!

so you think you are in good shape until you go to see...

cirque du soleil. then it is apparent you have absolutely no core strength. lol. those performers are amazing athletes. they have such a well balanced combo of strength and grace it is unreal. some of the men had abs like i have never seen on anyone in my life. you could see every single little tiny muscle. even the ones on their rib cage. at one point a lady was using only her neck to hang above the crowd. unreal.

i will have to admit i have a little gymnastic envy. i am still suffering from sucking at gymnastics as a you girl and my almost 3 years younger sister passing me in basic levels at gymnastics because i sucked that bad. yes i excelled at a couple of other sports but i always was defeated by gymnastics. even all through school.

flexibility has always been an issue for me. even with all my years of dance and hours spending stretching i have never been flexible. yes i was more flexible then but in the world of ballet i was not. i had to learn ways to "fake" flexibility during performances.

so if you don't here from me ever again i probably died trying to practice some new circus moves. just now i am trying to think of where i can hang a rope to start practicing. maybe that ladder thingy i saw..... hmmmm.

maybe i should start with some basic planks, sit ups and supermans.

I SOOOOOOoooooo have gymnastics envy. I get scared when I go upside down (unless it's on a roller coaster) and so I can't even do a summersault. :P Maybe I should try again now that I'm all athletic... but due to my fear, I never even learned to cartwheel!!!! My sister was the athletic one our whole lives, and she did gymnastics and could do things like back walkovers and front handsprings and all that good stuff. *sigh* Now, I could walk up and down a balance beam like it was nobody's business!! Apparently I have good balance but that's about it. I reallllly need to get more into stretching and flexibility more. I want to do backbends. That's my semi-cirque move... so I can pretend I'm as flexible as the contortionists. ;) But seriously -- circus athletes AMAZE me. :)

How are those circus moves coming along? roflol! You're hilarious! I wish I had been able to take gymnastics as a child. My youngest is currently perfecting her back handspring and front flip but she's thinking she wants to play soccer. I'm like NOOooooo because I must live through her. lol! But yeah, if it's soccer she wants then that will be that.

new personal challenge: ladder workout

Wednesday, June 11, 2008

i thought this would be another way to mix up my fitness and something to do at home that won't take too long. if i get bored with one exercise i could add in another. say i could do sit ups instead of push ups.

The key is not resting in between the exercises
(example: we will start at 30 reps)
30 reps of push ups
30 reps of jumping jacks
30 reps of burpees (also known as up-downs where you start standing and go down into a catcher stance, kick your feet out, then back in, and stand back up for one rep)
Then without stopping you do:
25 reps of push ups
25 reps of jumping jacks
25 reps of burpees (also known as up-downs where you start standing and go down into a catcher stance, kick your feet out, then back in, and stand back up for one rep)
Again without stopping you do:
20 reps of push ups
20 reps of jumping jacks
20 reps of burpees (also known as up-downs where you start standing and go down into a catcher stance, kick your feet out, then back in, and stand back up for one rep)
And you continue lowering your reps by five until your last set which is only 5 (example 30, 25, 20, 15, 10, and 5)

***edited to say that i did this. it took me 17 mins and it was very hard.

    What a great idea!!!

Hubby and I did this once with pushups... We started at 15 reps and worked our way down to 1. It was so hard.

Just goes to show you what a great workout you can get with no equipment!!!

You learn something new everyday. I've heard people talk about ladder routine before, but never really knew what they were. Sounds like something that would be fun and challenging to try for a change.
