tomorrow is ONE month to cuba

i am so excited that we are heading to cuba in one month. especially on this cool drizzly day. today is thanksgiving in canada so we are going to watch movies, go skating for fun (not hockey) and that is about it.

the only thing that worries me about cuba in a month is my giggly belly. oh my. after 2 nights of thanksgiving dinner i am looking about 4 months pregnant. i am not planning on trying to lose weight. just cleaning up my diet (again) and tightening up the mid section. this is mostly diet for me. watch the sodium, drink my water and eat good foods and i should lose the bloat.

had a pretty good workout week.
4 runs for 16 miles (highest weekly mileage in a while)
2 full body strength workouts
1 spin class

on wednesday i had to take the new car into the dealer so they could finish up a few things. when i booked the appointment they told me it would take 5 hours. when i got there due to the rain they said it would take 8 hours. i had no car, too far to get home so i had 8 hours to kill. so i walked to the gym. this gym is not the one i normally go to but is part of the chain i go to. well there is 2 of them. is that a chain? first time there. it is older but way bigger. however this was in front of the treadmills.
seriously? a vending machine full of chocolate bars and chips. how dumb is that??? this is pretty much next to the health food/supplement/cafe thing. idiots.

after working out for a couple of hours leisurely i then headed to the mall. 5 hours in a mall can be dangerous! i got new runners which i needed (back to brooks again), got a manicure (which i regret because i hate the colour and think she did a pretty crappy job) and bought a book and started to read it. i also spent some time in toys r us browsing for gift ideas for christmas. by doing all that i successfully killed 8 hours. phew!

we had 2 thanksgiving dinners this weekend. one at simon's uncles and one at my sisters. both were fun. nothing exciting to report happening at either.

our savings are dwindling so i have to start picking up more shifts at work. i have only been working 3 days a week lately and i need to work 4 at least every other week. so i will be picking up shifts. unless i win the lotto this week???

    Having 8 hrs to "kill" sounds like the most fabulous thing on earth right about now-LOL- yep, my life is said-- too much work, not enough fun :( Those leisurely gym workouts rock btw- everything is so carefree.

I know a girl who's husband is from Cuba, so they go there a lot- I am sure it'll be a great adventure. Do you know anyone there or are you just going on vacation? That's a place I wouldn't mind visiting myself some day. Funny that sharon lives so close to it, yet can't go there. Weird, right?

    So didja win the lotto yet? I thought having a donut shop or ice cream shop next to Weight Watchers or a gym was bad. Lol! Inside? Like you said, idiots! Your day of killing 8 hours sounds like it was rather productive. Oh and if I don’t have a French mani or clear polish, the only color I can tolerate on my fingers is a dark dark blackish purple. It’s the extremes with me. Lol!

I am so excited for you to do a picture blog when you come back from there! I can't wait to see old cars and beautiful classic 50's buildings! The diet sure does take care of the bloat, I know exactly what you men about a good one fixing the preggers look! Get to it! Thanksgiving Foods are OVER!

i hope it is over cause i got no money left to spend.

in the last few weeks i have become completely impulsive (while still be calculating) and my dh has become the voice of reason.

i finally ditched my bb which was dying a very slow death for an iphone. normally i would not do this. "always practical jen" would have used her old phone until it officially died or her contract was up. not "mid 30's crisis jen." yes i still researched and went over all my options as i always do but i chose the more fun and expensive option. simon didn't even believe i would go through with it and was super surprised when he got home and saw me playing with it.

i have also been toying with the idea of getting a new car. simon has been the voice of reason. this is just crazy! he is the impulsive one that i have to rein in! not on this one and he lost. i do believe deep down he wanted a new car too but was trying to be the voice of reason. we picked up our new car on saturday. i am so in love with it! seriously in LOVE! it drives so nice. it doesn't feel like a small car from the inside at all. the colour reminds me of vanilla icecream. the colour is called vanilla so i am assuming that is what the car maker was going from. i LOVE it. oh did i tell you that already? here is a picture of the car and h. do you notice h's scull shirt? he will only wear jeans and shirts with sculls now. kids are silly.

my parents are in europe for another few weeks and h wants to keep the new car a surprise so i have had to contain myself from posting about it on facebook or really talking about it with "real Live" realworld friends.

besides that going on last week i think i ended up the week getting all my exercise goals in and my food was pretty good too.

    Hey, you KNOW you deserve it!!! I felt the same way when I got my I-phone. I opt for practical most of the time too... even though I realized that I am less frugal in my 30's. The coupon cutting has been pretty non-existent, as has the garage sale shopping-LOL. I guess, on the upside, my shopping in general, has been limited due to time constaints, but yes, I am still in love with my I-phone, so I don't have regrets when I do see my monthly phone bill-LOL!
Enjoy your new car- I always wanted to figure out how to keep that new car smell... forever-LOL.

As for H... I remember those days. For us, it was T-shirts and sweats... once he tried to convince me to let him wear sweats to a formal event-LOL- and those long sleep shirts and sweaters were given away pretty much brand new. I feel hopeful though- at age 15, we have come ways... he does wear jeans these days-hehehe. Give him time and he'll find some new "obsession" and you'd think we are lucky with boys, right? Can you imagine a little girl ?

over a week since my last blog? bad me.

guess you can put a gigantic X beside my goal to blog 2x per week.

been doing well though. not great with food, running or exercise but nothing horrific either. got my minimums in last week. thinking i may just sign up for the 5k instead of 10k in november now. i am enjoying running but i am not willing myself to go any farther than 10km. i made a fancy excel spread sheet for my race plan but with my back being off i got off track and i don't feel like pushing myself right now mentally or physically.

my back seems ok however i am sore all over all the time so it isn't probably right yet. my calves are super tight and quads. i am stretching a ton. even on my run today i stopped to stretch my calves.

trying to think if anything else exciting going on? i got an iphone. my blackberry died. i didn't want another blackberry so i was choosing between an iphone and an android. iphone won though the battle was close. i don't regret my decision at all. i even tracked food on the spark app the other day. sadly my 5 year old has had to show me how to do a couple things on it like when i couldn't figure out how to do something with the camera.

tomorrow we are going to look at cars. we will see what happens.

sorry girls but i wore that lululemon shirt again and my back didn't go out again. you are not getting it. it isn't cursed.

i leave for cuba in 44 days and 8 hours! not that i am counting or anything.

the treadmills are taunting me

so last week i posted my back was getting better. bam! friday i am helping h with his seatbelt and my back snaps again. literally i was reaching to grab the belt and i froze. i was so stiff and spasming that i couldn't drive him to school or me to work. simon had to help me back into the house.

i have no idea what is causing this. chiro can't figure it out either. especially since i am doing nothing when it goes out. i have been stretching a ton and massaging. i know it could be from something as simple as my butt being tight. no weight training at all. i am blaming my new lululemon top. i have worn it twice and within a day each time my back has gone out. is it cursed? Leary about wearing it again.

my mom ended up taking me to chiro and the one errand i had to run that day. since then i have been to the chiro twice and i am taking it easy. h was really upset we couldn't do the terry fox run yesterday however i think he got over it at the indoor play centre. it is the weirdest back pain. very localized to one area. more like i have been punched. it hurts more when i put pressure on it so standing is more comfortable that sitting/laying. i am getting NO sleep.

saturday i went to a friends wedding. i tried to have a good time. back was very sore though. i didn't even attempt to wear my heels. flats! it was a nice wedding and the food was good. smallest wedding i have ever been to. 50 people.

today i did some light cardio at the gym on a bike and the elliptical. i really wanted to run. i really wanted to run on the TREADMILL. they were taunting me. i know better though. no impact for now. i don't know if this back issue has anything to do with running since i am doing simple mundane tasks when it happens.


i read a really good blog by a fellow sparker fit-whit today. she vocalized well what i am feeling personally about diet/fitness/life style/goals right now. for those of you that are at a healthy weight (even thought you think you could lose a few) it would be a great blog for you.


running, sigh. i miss it. not sure if my back issues are due to running or not. i have said it before though when i run low mileage i tend to be hurt more. the more i run, within reason for me, the less i seem to ache and pain. however, when i am running 60 miles a month i feel other things i love are put to the back burner. however, like now EVERYTHING fitness wise is is in the back burner.

well i guess i should go take MORE ibprophen and go to work.

    What about seeing a physical therapist? That's really tough, Jen. I "feel" pain and know how frustrated you are. My neck and back used to go out on me all the time. (Poor posture at the computer.) Hang in there!

mid week whatz up

wow i am really running out of titles to come up with that zinger.

well not a ton is up. our beautiful weather (dry/hot) is ending tomorrow. hoping i see the sun again before next june. just being overcast and cooler today my allergies are already acting up. i really need to move somewhere tropical. going to start taking my vitamin d too soon.

so far i have ran 3x since sunday, done a spin class and st full body 2x.

food has been good considering it is shark week. nothing too out of control. ok, maybe the chocolate bar on the way home from the gym was not the best choice but it was a fruit and nut bar so contained 3 food groups (dairy, fruit, protein). well that is how i justify it.
