January 2013 Recap

Friday, February 01, 2013

I weighed 203.4 pounds on January 1st. On January 31st my weight was 198.0 for a loss of 5.4 pounds! My total weight loss since starting this journey is now 57 pounds! I am now in ONEderland and am dedicated to never going back to the 200s. I am 1 pound away from becoming overweight and out of the obese BMI category!!!!

I'm doing pretty good on my other goals as well. I'd give myself a B+ because there are some areas that still need work... like the yard. I like to be outside, sometimes, but I really am not a gardener and weeding is probably my least favorite chore ever. There are bugs and dirt out there, yuck! And I am not even a girly girl!

I tried on my petite size 16 jeans that have been too small in the waist for about 11 years now, and I CAN WEAR THEM! I wore them out to dinner and was still able to eat my food, and breathe =) Success!

I am doing very well on getting 10,000 steps per day in. Out of the 31 days of January I managed to get 10,000+ on 25 days! The other 6 days were 5,000+ days. Every day of January has at least 1 shiny foil star sticker on it. Woohoo! *That is my daily reward for each 5,000 steps I accrue)

So for February I will continue working towards my goals that I set for this year. Especially working on getting in my steps and I really do need to be more consistent with adding in strength training. I know I need that to firm my body up and it's just healthy. I guess I should work on getting the weeding done too /grumble.

Special thanks to my Biggest Loser Team, Emerald and my wonderful SparkFriends who keep me pushing forward, and are such an encouragement! It's been a blessing finding my place here on Spark and so very helpful. Looking forward to starting a new 5% challenge too, hopefully in February. Can't wait to see which team I end up on!

Guess Who Stepped into ONEderland Today!

Saturday, January 12, 2013

All my hard work, and dedication is paying off yet again. I've finally made it to this amazing milestone. Under 200 #'s! It's been at least 12 years since I've been here, possibly longer even. It feels good! I know that given my body's tendency to fluctuate a few pounds on a daily basis I may jump back up over the line a bit for the next week or so, but as long as I stick with the plan and stay consistent I will never truly be back into that danger zone again.

Glory to God for giving me the strength, knowledge, and passion to do this! And praying that He will continue to bless me and keep me going so I can be fit and healthy in this life!

Thank you to my SparkFriends and teammates who have been so encouraging and helpful and make this journey actually fun. And my family and real life friends have also been super helpful with their praise and encouragement. I've had a wonderful support system, which I again must thank God for.

About Me =)

Thursday, January 10, 2013

"Copy and Paste into your own blog, change the answers to suit you
and help your SparkFriends get to know you"

I don't usually do these, but today I needed some fun so here goes!

Where is my cell phone?
On the coffee table in the living room where I left it last night.

Keith, 48 year old fiber tech. Met him in Nov. 1997 and been married since July 13, 2002. He is such a blessing to me. I couldn't imagine myself with anyone else.

Your hair?
Long, straight, used to be blonde but it's pretty much just brown now. No grey yet, which makes me happy.

Your mother?
Is 62, lives only 7 miles from me and along with my husband, is my best friend. I talk to her most days of the week and see her pretty much every week.

Your father?
Died in July 1998 of lung cancer. I still miss him a lot. He was an excellent father. He was old, 52 when I was born (54 and 62 for my brothers) yet until he got sick he spent so much time and energy with us. It's really amazing.

Your favorite thing?
Getting "snarfled" (that's what we call it when my clumsy doggy smashes her face into you and licks your nose and ears), It's especially great first thing in the morning. Nothing like sloppy doggy kisses to make you laugh and start the day off in a great way.

Your dream last night?
I bought and stocked my refrigerator with a ridiculous amount of orange juice and almond milk. It was odd and I do not remember why I was doing that.

Favorite drink?
Water to be perfectly honest. It's about all I ever drink. I do love me a decadent chocolate malt every now and then though and for alcoholic it would be a toss up between frozen strawberry daiquir or pink moscato, especially the bubbly version.

What room are you in?
Our spare room that we use as our computer room.

Your hobbies?
Reading, Crochet, Cross Stitch, Jigsaw Puzzles

Your fear?
Cockroaches. It's a severe phobia actually. If one gets too near me I lose it and panic. If one gets ON me. I tend to go truly hysterical and hyperventilate and it's just not pretty.

Where do you want to be in 6 years?
Lighter and in better physical shape, closer to God, but otherwise pretty much the same as I am now. I'm very content with the majority of my life.

Where were you last night?
At home.

Something that you aren't?

Yummy, I love blueberry muffins, but I try not to indulge in them very often.

Wish list item?
Another doggy, something big and cuddly that makes me feel safe when I will be alone after my son moves out and my husband is working at night.

Last thing you did?
Took a shower

What are you wearing?

Your pets?
Sara my 2 year old lab/chow doggy and Rocky my 13 year old pomeranian/chihuahua doggy

Outside of my family I don't really have anyone that I would call a friend. I do have a lot of acquaintances, just no one close that I spend time with.

Your life?

Your mood?
Determined. I am determined to achieve my goals and do the best I can to make it happen

Missing someone?
My dad and my daughter

Your car?
2007 Toyota Corolla blue

Something you're not wearing?

Your favorite store?
Amazon.com if that counts as a store. It's definitely my favorite place to shop!

Your favorite color?
Blue and Purple

When is the last time you cried?
Sunday. They showed a video to advertise a Daddy/Daughter dance at church and it got to me.

Favorite place to eat?
Antonio's Italian restaurant

Favorite place I'd like to be right now?
On a cruise ship

Review of 2012 and Goals for 2013

Monday, December 31, 2012

My goals for 2012 were:

1) Lose 50 pounds. This seems realistic based on my current results
2) Be able to fit into a size 16, or smaller again.
3) Keep up with my food tracking daily. This seems to be crucial for me.
4) Exercise daily, even if it's only a brief amount. No excuses!
5) Read through my One Year Daily Bible and attend church as often as possible
6) Continue exceeding water drinking goals daily
7) Complete the Bucs blanket I began 2 years ago to give to my brother.
8) Complete my doggy cross stitch project
9) Read 75 books from my current favorite authors as well as classics and new authors
10) Keep my home clean and organized
11) Try a new healthy dinner recipe once a month
12) Get my planters weeded and kept weed free
And here are the results for 2012:

1) I did not lose 50 lbs, but I did lose 28 lbs. There was a 3 month period from September-November where I was traveling a lot, on vacations, and eating out way more than normal. I had actually gained some weight back during this period, but have since lost it all and made some progress. I am very proud of that and it gives me great hope that my new lifestyle of being more healthy and fit will stick for the long haul.

2) I can wear all of my size 16 clothing again. YAY! I was even able to wear 2 different size 14 dresses, but cannot do pants/jeans yet.

3) I have done a very good job of tracking my food. I rarely ever skip it and that's typically only days when I am not home all day and have no idea where to even begin in my tracking for parties and such.

4) I've been averaging 4-5 days a week of exercise. I do need to get back to 6-7 days a week so that I can make strong progress. I'm getting tired of losing weight and so I want to try to get to my goal weight quickly so I can relax a little and work on maintenance.

5) I didn't make it through my Bible. I made it through 3 months and I did skip going to church a few times just because I did not feel like getting out of bed early enough to go. So I need to work on this better.

6) This was an easy one. I drink 12+ glasses of water a day and never even have to think about it.

7) ACCOMPLISHED! I am so glad to have that thing done! I gave it to my brother for Christmas.

8) It took me much longer to finish the Bucs blanket so I did not get around to any other projects this year.

9) I ended up reading 150 books, doubled my goal. I can jog in place while reading my Nook. Win/Win! And I do a lot of audiobooks which I can also listen to while walking and exercising and doing other things.

10) I'd give myself a 70% on this one. I do need to de-clutter my closet and dresser to purge clothes that are too big and I need to re-organize the garage. Otherwise not too bad.

11) I did this for half of the year and then forgot about it.

12) I did get the weeding finished, didn't stay on top of it. So will need to do it again.

And now for my goals for 2013:

1) Lose the last 26 lbs. I would like to lose to reach my goal weight of 175 lbs.
2) Be able to wear a size 14 or smaller.
3) Keep up with my food tracking daily.
4) Exercise daily, even if it's only a brief amount. No excuses!
5) Read through my Message Pause/Rewind Daily Bible & attend church as often as possible
6) Continue exceeding water drinking goals daily
7) Make Christmas ornaments throughout year to give to family & friends
8) Complete my doggy cross stitch project
9) Read 100 books from my current favorite authors as well as classics and new authors
10) Keep my home clean and organized
11) Try a new healthy dinner recipe once a month
12) Get my planters weeded and kept weed free

I just read for pleasure. I enjoy mysteries, thrillers (medical, political, psychological), true crime, sci-fi, suspense, mild horror, conspiracies, some fantasy and occasionally just plain cute, sappy stories with happy endings. Not a fan of romance/love stories. About all that I can stand of that kind of book is the typical love interest that comes up while someone is solving a murder or running for their lives and even then I tend to skim over the mushy parts.

Some of my favorite authors are James Patterson, JD Robb, John Grisham, Ann Rule, Ted Dekker, Dean Koontz, John Saul, Robin Cook, David Baldacci, David Eddings, George R. R. Martin, Tess Gerritsen, Dennis Lehane, Jim Butcher, Sue Grafton, Janet Evanovich, Stephen King, Joel C. Rosenberg

Some of the books I read this year that I was surprised I liked were Little Women, Gone With the Wind, A Christmas Carole, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, To Kill a Mockingbird

I also won about 50 books from Goodreads giveaways that they do and liked all but about 3 of the books I won. I did stick with signing up for only the books from genres I tend to like and that sounded interesting to me so the odds were a bit stacked that I'd like them before I read them. I don't like to waste my time reading books I dislike.

Yes, I agree with Carrie. I'd love to know what all you're reading! In fact I'm a team leader for a Classics book club team. (In theory we love to discuss great literature, but the boards are a little quiet in practice). My first thought was that you might have been trying to do too much, I'd say you did pretty well this past year - so I'm fully confident in your goals this year! As for making church stick, you could try volunteering for a ministry like junior church, nursery, or Sunday school. Then you will feel compelled to be there, and soon it will become habit. I look forward to seeing what you do with 2013! Keep us posted, and good luck to you!

Thanks Pooks! Since I can read / listen to audiobooks and still remain active I am allowing myself to read more =) If I was just sitting or laying down I'd for sure have to cut back.

I was really hoping to hit ONEderland by the end of this year. I had a few days over the past 2 weeks where I was at 200.4-200.8 and I was so hopeful, but TOM came around and it didn't happen, but I will be able to start the year off with that celebration early on I'm sure!

Carrie... I am a member on Goodreads.com where I keep track of all the books I read. http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/

I love that you're including non-weight goals! Though ironically, after book blogging for so many years, I'm actually trying to read LESS. This year was the first year I managed to read less than 100 books in four years. I'm hoping to get less than 75 this year. :D

You are so close to ONEderland and I can't wait to celebrate with you when you get there!

Week 2 of the Summer Biggest Loser Challenge

Thursday, June 28, 2012

Current: 208.8
Last week: 210.0
Gain: N/A
Loss: 1.2
Cardio: 438
Strength: 33

Not bad =) I was a bit worried when I weighed in at 213 on Tuesday morning. Again high sodium got me. So I was very careful Tuesday and Wednesday to really watch my sodium consumption and increased my water intake significantly. I managed to get in a bit more cardio during this 2nd week and added in some ST. Most of the ST was from doing the ITC (inter Team Challenges) so I am glad I participated in that. I am still making progress with my C25K and have only 1 more day of Week 3 to do, which shouldn't be a problem since I already did it twice =)

Here's hoping that Week 3 is just as successful as Week 2, if not more so!

Go Jade Team!!! emoticon
