Take That TS Debby!

Monday, June 25, 2012

I got my Week 3, Day 1 of the C25K running program completed despite the Tropical Storm Debby trying to thwart me! I am so proud of myself. One of my biggest hurdles is using excuses to not do what I should do. I could have easily justified skipping my running training today because it is actually dangerous to be outside under the current conditions, I do not have a treadmill, and do not have access to a gym or indoor track.

However, I said to myself, "Self, You can still walk & jog around the inside of the house, even if I spend a lot of time going in one place!" ... That's what I did! I strapped on my heart rate monitor and put on my headphones, started up the Week 3 podcast and off I went. It was actually FUN too. Instead of just walking in place in between the run intervals I was dancing =) I kept my heart rate up quite nicely. It was easier than running outdoors with the heat, uneven ground, inclines, but it was most definitely better than had I chosen to do nothing.

This is a victory for me =)

emoticon emoticon

I *WILL* complete this C25K training program! And I *WILL* be able to run!

Week 1 of the Summer Biggest Loser Challenge

Thursday, June 21, 2012

This Week: 210.0
Last Week:: 211.0
Loss of: 1.0
Gain of: N/A
Cardio Minutes: 397
Strength Minutes: N/A
ITC: (Yes or No): Yes
ITC Bonus (Yes or No): Yes

I had a very high sodium and fiber intake the day before weigh-in. I think that actually caused me to weigh in high. I had been weighing in at 208-209 all week. But hopefully that means I will show a bigger loss for week 2.

I am pleased with my cardio exercising. Walking and doing the C25K program in the mornings is really helping me to get a good amount of exercise accomplished and making me feel better about myself. My goal for Week 2 is to continue with the cardio and to add in some more strength training. For some reason I tend to put that off even though I know how beneficial it is to my body and weight less efforts.

GO JADE TEAM!

emoticon on the weight loss. But that's true, think of it. Next week you will be looking at some more weight loss. I try to combat the high sodium sometimes with some extra water. I sometimes like to grab those Healthy Choice dinners or those Lean Cuisine Chicken Club Paninis but I get frustrated when I see how healthy they are but the sodium is a little high on some of them. I have had sodium mess with a weigh in for me too. But good for you, you are planning a course of action for that "evil" sodium.

End of May Goal Evaluations

Thursday, May 31, 2012

So here's my list of goals for 2012

In 2012 I would like to...

1) Lose 50 pounds. This seems realistic based on my current results
2) Be able to fit into a size 16, or smaller again.
3) Keep up with my food tracking daily. This seems to be crucial for me.
4) Exercise daily, even if it's only a brief amount. No excuses!
5) Read through my One Year Daily Bible and attend church as often as possible
6) Continue exceeding water drinking goals daily
7) Complete the Bucs blanket I began 2 years ago to give to my brother.
8) Complete my doggy cross stitch project
9) Read 75 books from my current favorite authors as well as classics and new authors
10) Keep my home clean and organized
11) Try a new healthy dinner recipe once a month
12) Get my planters weeded and kept weed free

And now I will address each goal and how I am progressing.

1) I began the year at 229 and am at 211 currently so I have lost 18 of 50 pounds so far this year. I had hoped to be a little further along by now, but I could still manage to achieve my goal if I really buckle down and try.

2) I have actually been able to fit back into some of my size 16 clothes already. I still can't wear the jeans, but I am able to wear size 18 jeans, down from size 24. So I am confident that I will be able to achieve this goal, sooner rather than later, and might even slip into 14s again.

3) I have done pretty good on the food tracking. There were some days when I was eating at other people's houses and stuff and didn't know how to track some things, or just didn't make the time for it, but I'd say I tracked about 95% of the time.

4) I have not been exercising daily. I really do need to get back to that. I had recently tried a Mon-Fri approach, and it works, if I do it, but I don't even always manage to get 5 days a week in. This is definitely an area that needs improvement. I've started up a C25K program and joined a 5% summer weight loss challenge. Hopefully that will help me stay on track for the next 2 months at least.

5) I have totally been slacking on my Bible reading. I think I am still in March and I have not been going to church every Sunday. I let the temptation of sleeping in keep me home several times. Definitely need to work on this one.

6) I am doing well with water. I have been drinking 12 or more glasses per day.

7) Bucs blanket got postponed while I worked on a baby blanket for my stepbrother and his wife who are expecting their first baby. I will have that finished up by this weekend and then I can get back to that Bucs blanket and hopefully start on some Christmas ornaments I want to make.

8) I haven't touched any cross stitching projects this year so far =/

9) I am reading probably too much. I have read 63 books already this year. Granted several were audiobooks that I listened to while doing other things, but still. I probably should cut back on that some to make more time for other activities. I just enjoy it so much and the Nook has made it so convenient for me, hard to slow it down!

10) I could definitely be doing better on the home front. I have been able to keep the house from getting cluttered, but I do have to improve my cleaning habits. I'm working on sticking to a schedule to make sure that things are being cleaned regularly. I'm just so bad at it. I wish that I had been taught how to keep house instead of having to learn everything on my own. But that's just an excuse and I need to make it a higher priority.

11) I have been trying at least 1 new healthy dinner recipe per month. That's actually a pretty fun goal for me. I don't love cooking, but I don't mind it and I definitely love eating.

12) My front yard is actually in pretty good shape. I need to trim up some of the plants, but I did manage to get it under control fairly well so far. The backyard still needs a lot of work.

I am looking forward to June. I started my weight loss journey officially at the beginning of June 2011 when I couldn't fit in a regular seat of a roller coaster and after 1 year I have made a lot of progress. I have lost 44 pounds and am in much better physical shape and feeling better about myself. Oh and I can now easily fit into a regular seat on a roller coaster with room to spare. YES!

I want to put in a lot of effort between now and my Spark-anniversary at the end of July to get out of the 200s and enter ONEderland for the first time in 17 years or so. I haven't been under 200 pounds since before I was pregnant and my son is almost 17. It's hard, but rewarding changing my life.

Congratulations on all of your progress so far! You really have accomplished so very much and you have a lot to be proud of. Balance is difficult, but everything you are doing is so important. I struggle with the cleaning as well, but I have to give up reading/devotions/exercise/Sparkpeo
ple/me time, etc. There's only a few hours to fit everything in after work and before bed. But I am trying to pick up one or two extra chores each evening in order to enjoy Saturday's more. It's working. Just 10 min extra here and there makes a difference in household chores too.

Congrats again, you are doing an awesome job! I'm sure you will surpass your goals!

Congratulations on your weight loss so far!

I've found that the 5% Challenges are very motivating. I skipped the Spring Challenge which was a big mistake. I hope we both succeed with the Summer Challenge! I'm hoping to be a Starfish again....

I read too much, too. For those of us who are compulsive readers, cutting back can be tough. Good luck with that and your other goals!

January Recap

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

Here's how I am doing on my 2012 Goals:

1) Lose 50 pounds. This seems realistic based on my current results

I began the month off at 229.0 pounds. I am now down to 223.6. Yay! This is definitely a pace that will get me to my goal for this year. emoticon

2) Be able to fit into a size 16, or smaller again.

I can pull my size 16 jeans up all the way, which means that my hips and thighs have shrunk quite a bit because a few months ago they wouldn't go up past my thighs. There's still a LOT of belly fat between that button and zipper though. I really think I'll get there this year. Just gotta keep working on it. emoticon

3) Keep up with my food tracking daily. This seems to be crucial for me.

I did track my food every single day and with pre-planning on days that I knew I would be eating out or larger amounts for certain meals I managed to work the rest of the day out to stay below my max amount without feeling really hungry. I did fall below the minimum a few days, but not by much and since it's not 100% accurate on the calorie counts I figure my body would have protested if I was really under nourished. emoticon

4) Exercise daily, even if it's only a brief amount. No excuses!

I did it! 100% daily fitness of 10 minutes or more per day! I am very proud of this accomplishment, especially since some days were very, very difficult to convince myself to do it, but I did. I completed the January Jump Start Challenge and ended with 1201 fitness minutes for the month. emoticon emoticon

5) Read through my One Year Daily Bible and attend church as often as possible

I am about a month ahead currently, so I didn't read every single day, but then I realized I'd rather get it done early than fail my challenge, so I've done better at the reading the last few days of the month. I did go to church every Sunday, except for Jan. 1st because I was way too sick to go anywhere. emoticon

6) Continue exceeding water drinking goals daily

Done! I always had at least 9 glasses of water per day, and up to 18 on heavy fitness or high humidity days. emoticon emoticon emoticon

7) Complete the Bucs blanket I began 2 years ago to give to my brother.

I did a few rows of the chart pattern. 60 left to do. I really need to step it up because now I have a baby blanket to make too for my step brother and his wife! emoticon

8) Complete my doggy cross stitch project

Didn't even work on it. Doh! emoticon emoticon

9) Read 75 books from my current favorite authors as well as classics and new authors

Excelled at this goal. I read 9 books this month. emoticon

Louisa May Alcott Little Women
Michael Connelly The Black Echo
Jack Kilborn Endurance
Pam Young Sidetracked Home Executives: From Pigpen to Paradise
J. D. Robb Purity in Death (audiobook)
Jeff Lindsay Double Dexter
Jerry B. Jenkins The Last Operative
Ted Dekker The Martyr's Song
Ted Dekker Heaven's Wager

10) Keep my home clean and organized

It's in pretty good shape. I need to clean the carpets soon and my garage is only about 70% organized, but otherwise I am happy with it and my husband is as well. emoticon emoticon

11) Try a new healthy dinner recipe once a month

I did this! I tried Chef Meg's Cottage Pie. My family mostly liked it. I used a bag of shredded carrots instead of shredding them myself, but it ended up being too many carrots which over powered the rest of the flavors. We decided to try it once more but with zucchini and squash instead of the carrots. I also made a London broil for the first time and served it with Broccoli sauteed in butter & garlic and sliced cantaloupe emoticon emoticon

12) Get my planters weeded and kept weed free

Well one of my planters is weed free, but the rest of the planters, not so much. Several things needs trimming too. I am so not a fan of yard work. This will be a toughie for me. emoticon emoticon

Overall I am pleased with myself so far this year. I still am feeling highly motivated to continue. I am looking forward to doing the emoticon for my February Challenge. I hope I see as good results with that as I did with the Jan. Jump Start.

Thank you all so much my SparkFriends for your continued encouragement and support. It really does make a difference =) emoticon emoticon emoticon

January 12-15, 2012

Sunday, January 15, 2012

I have had a very good few days. I've been doing a lot of walking outside with my dog, which I really do enjoy. I've managed to meet and/or exceed all of my goals, including exercising every day so far this year. The January Jump Start Challenge is really helping me. At church this morning I had some compliments on how good I am looking even, which makes me so very happy!

This week I plan to continue with what I am doing. I feel like I am shrinking and getting stronger. I have reached a new low on the scale, 226.0 even =) I spent an hour today sitting in a lounge chair in my back yard. I haven't used it since I started working on getting in shape and I was so thrilled with how much more comfortable it is now and how easy it was for me to get in and out of it without an extra 29 lbs. getting in my way! It's the little things like that which I find to be so encouraging.

Tonight I am going to be eating dinner at my mom's house. I know most of the menu already and I should be able to stick to my calorie range. I just have to try and avoid any snacks she has, because she always has snacks! It's going to be interesting to see how well I pull it off =)

Blogging every day doesn't seem to suit me too well, so I'll just keep doing status updates on a daily basis and then maybe a weekly blog to just kind of give myself something to look back on at all of the milestones along this journey.

I hope that everyone is enjoying their Sunday afternoon as much as I am. Have a very blessed and healthy week!

I think it's a great boost when we take notice of the "little things" as you put it, like getting in and out of a chair easier. I was amazed at how quickly my body responded to the exercise and good nutrition I was giving it so soon after I started my journey. I remember how happy I was when I could bend over and tie my shoes while on the floor instead of having them up on a stool or across my leg. Or when I could look down and see my feet. Those little moments kept me excited and enthused to continue and I love to go back and remember them as it helps me to get over the bumps along the way. You are doing great, Barb! Keep on sparking!
