I have managed to meet and/or exceed my goals consistently this week so far. I am still on track with the January Jump Start Challenge. It really means a lot to me to get through this month strong. I want to be sure to exercise every day and I want to complete this challenge so I can really start this year off well. I even added an extra 10 minute abs & core workout to the mix today to meet the bonus challenge, and I did an additional 14 minutes of low impact aerobics, just because =)

I feel good. My sinuses are still bothering me, probably will for another week or so, it always lasts awhile, but that's not going to stop me. I find it ironic that I don't watch The Biggest Loser and their motto this season is No Excuses, and that is the motto I have adopted for this year (without knowing about The Biggest Loser using it.) I catch clips online, that's how I found out about the motto =) I might have to start watching it now though since that's my mission this year.

I finished that Endurance book by Jack Kilborn, started on The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, but only read 2 of the short stories before Double Dexter by Jeff Lindsay became available. I am currently reading the Dexter book. It's so different from where the series is at that it does get a little confusing at times.

I took pictures of my completed jigsaw puzzle and started on a new one. That's something my son and I sit down and do together when we get the urge. I also actually got quite a bit of housework done today, and mended some clothing.

All in all it was a very good day. I had much more energy and I didn't even feel tempted to take a nap today. Pretty crazy considering we had thunderstorms most of the day and that usually wipes me out.

We got our notice that our car has been fully paid off and the title is in the mail. AND my husband got an excellent annual review and a raise =)

So yes, today was a very good day.

Pooks that's no problem. I had to double up vids last week because I was too sick at the start of the challenge and didn't get to it one day =) At least they aren't very long so an extra video in a day is pretty easy to squeeze in when you are up to it

    I had to skip the Jumpstart ST vid yesterday because my chiropractor told me I needed to lay off the exercise just for yesterday while I recovered from some tough manipulation he had to do on me. So I'll just double-up today.

Rough day. Not feeling well at all. My sinuses are killing me and I've been dealing with hot and cold flashes from an apparent fever all day.

I have resolved to NOT let anything be an excuse to stop my from putting in at least 10 minutes of exercise per day. So I stuck with my plan and got my 20 minutes of Leslie aerobics done and the Day 2 lower body sculpting video done. It was a challenge to get through, for sure.

I met all of my other goals today even though I really did very little aside from lay on the couch and read and nap.

As far as reading goes... this Endurance book by Jack Kilborn is scary, but I can't put it down and am already 85% finished with it. I will be able to finish it up before I go to sleep tonight. I recommend for people who like horror, suspenseful thrillers and don't mind death, and some pretty gruesome stuff. I still say it's very much like a super twisted episode of Criminal Minds. I do hope that there are some survivors. I am not a fan of books where everyone dies.

I just remembered I forgot to put my husband's clothes into the dryer, so off to do it now!

    Sounds like a good book. I'm thinking about reading the Milenium Trilogy. I've already seen the Swedish films of all three books so there may not be any surprises, buf I've always liked books better than movies.

    Sounds like my kind of book. I love thrillers, even ones where everyone and their dog dies. I guess you could say the bloodier the better.

    Heh, I think I will skip that book. On the other hand, I finished listening to Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones (fantasy/fairy tale, WAY out of my comfort zone) and it was FANTASTIC. Absolutely highly recommended. :D

Today ended up being a very fun day. I went to church this morning, which is part of my spiritual health goals. It was also the annual chili cook-off and I let my family talk me into participating. I never, ever expected to win or anything, my chili is so plain in my opinion and not spicy at all. Well apparently a lot of other people like it that way too lol. I got the 2nd place ribbon and there was not a drop of chili left in my crock pot. That really made my day more than I could have imagined. I love to win stuff, especially on something I did or made =) It was a good thing I had left a bowl of it home for my poor sick husband! Both my son and my husband said it must have been rigged, because I should have won 1st place... bless them =)

After that little high wore off I got a terrible headache and even though the thermostat read 80F I was so cold that I had to put my thick bathrobe on over my clothing and put some socks on to get comfy. That is so NOT like me. I am usually complaining about how hot it is. So we're thinking maybe I am not quite over my sickness, which makes sense, I am still very congested. I do hope it's not a sinus infection. Once those set in, I have a very hard time getting rid of them and they tend to keep coming back for awhile. So anyway, I took a nice 3 hour nap.

I woke up feeling better, but it was after 6pm so I just made some grilled cheese and tomato soup for dinner (I love that!) It was so yummy. Talk about comfort foods =)

I did manage to meet/exceed all of my goals today. I even did my 20 minutes aerobics with Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds, it wasn't till 9pm, but I did it! I also managed to bang out that Day 1 cardio video from the January challenge. That was like an hour ago and I am still sweaty lol.

I do still have quite a headache and will go to bed soon. But I wanted to keep up with my blogging.

I finished reading The Black Echo by Michael Connelly today. I gave it 4/5 stars. It was a good detective story with some twists and surprises, enough suspense to keep me interested. The main thing I didn't like about it was the profanity. I've read books with more, but I think this one could have done with less. It was the first book in his Harry Bosch detective series and I do plan to read more eventually.

That puts me at 2/75 books this year. I am listening to Purity in Death by J.D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts) ... I love the series and I especially like it as audiobooks, the voice actress does a terrific job bringing the story and characters to life =) My next book to actually read is called Endurance by Jack Kilborn. I've read one other of his books and I hope this one won't be too scary. He does tend to get a bit scary and very graphic at times. His style seems to be that of a super twisted episode of Criminal Minds.

    I think 75 books in a year is a good goal to have. I think that's about where I'm aiming this year (except I'm actually trying to REDUCE to 75 books, from 128 in 2011, which was already down from the 184 and 217 of 2009 and 2010). I think 75 is a good number to have! I'm really hoping to at least get under 100 this year! :D

And congrats again on the chili cookoff!

Finished off week 1 of the January Jumpstart Challenge strong! I did my 20 minutes of aerobics, I did the Day 6 Arm Sculpting video today since I had screwed up and did Day 7's video yesterday AND I walked to the grocery, shopped and came back which took 30 minutes and had enough steps for a mile.

I met my water goal, my pedometer step goal and my calorie goal. My calorie goal was a small victory for me in self control. I made lasagna for dinner tonight and as soon as it came out of the oven I cut it up into proper portion sizes... against all my strong desires and wishes to start off with 2 servings, I controlled myself and only took one and doubled up on the spinach instead. I also only had 1 piece of garlic bread. When I was done eating I was completely satisfied and now I have even more lasagna than normal for other meals. Go me!

I did take a small nap today, because I had trouble sleeping through my husband's coughing and sneezing fits. I won't beat myself up over that, clearly I needed it. I read my daily Bible verse and took some time today to relax and read The Black Echo, less than 100 pages until I finish it =) I am 1/75 books read so far this year. I did, of course, spend excessive time on my computer, but I'm doing really well in everything else so I don't feel bad about it.

And now I will go read for awhile, rest more poor abs that are still quite sore from yesterday's workout and then start a pot of chili for tomorrow's annual chili cook-off at church that I signed up for. My first time, I hope they go easy on me ;)

PS... I stepped on the scale this morning and hit a new low, 227.0!!!!!! I don't want to update my Spark tracker until the end of the month though, but that was an exciting thing to see =)

    WOW! You have set great goals and you are doing a great job! The book challenge is a great idea. I have a goal of reading more, but an actual goal number of books would be a good idea. Best of luck to you on the Chili cook off!

    The challenge is fun =) It is exactly what I needed to get this year off to a great start.

I will be happy to let you know what books I recommend as I read them. The first book I completed this year was Little Women by Louisa May Alcott and YES I totally recommend it (if you are one of the few women who have NOT already read it like me lol) =)

I have been able to read 75+ every year for the past 3 years. I count audio books that I listen to while walking, crocheting, cooking, traveling in the car and playing games as well. Which really helps my count. I also got lucky and was given a Nook back in March of 2011 and that was so much fun to read on and made so many more books conveniently available to me that I went on a serious reading binge. I dropped it one too many times and killed it in October 2011, so my husband was kind enough to replace it for me with the Nook Color *with insurance!* and I have even more fun with it!

    This is my first time using a SparkPeople challenge, and so far so good. Glad to see someone else working well with it as well! I love reading, too. I set a goal for 60 books this year.

There was nothing special about today, but that is a good thing in my book. I was able to stay on track very easily.

I did my cardio, 20 minutes of Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds w/warm up and cooldown and stretch.

Then I did the 15 minute Abs Workout video that was supposed to be tomorrow's challenge video, but I got the days mixed up, so I'll be doing Day 6's arms video tomorrow hehe. I really hate doing ab workouts. But I really hate my fat, flabby belly even more, so it's got to be done!

I easily stayed at the low end of my calorie range, which is what I aim for. And never felt deprived. I like that =) I also surpassed my water goal with 12 glasses so far and probably another 3 before bed. My bladder seems to be getting bigger lol.

I am currently at 6,000 steps on my pedometer. My goal is 5,000 at this time, which means I have to exercise to get there, but not all that much. As you can see, 20 minutes usually is enough. Next month I hope to raise the bar to 6.000 and eventually back up 7,500 and some day 10,000 =)

Umm yea, that's about it. My husband is sick so I've been spending time taking care of him. He got the nasty cold that I had the entire week after Christmas including New Year's. Poor baby =(

I read my daily Bible verse. I really need to read more than that, but it's better than nothing. I got to spend some time reading my current book as well. Still reading The Black Echo by Michael Connelly. No other hobbies for today besides being on my computer, probably excessively.

Thanks to all of my SparkFriends for your encouragement and positive remarks. It means so much to me to know that there are other facing these same weight loss hurdles and overcoming and sharing their journeys, successes and trials and set backs.

We got this!

Now to go swap the linens on the bed so I can relax and read before calling it a night.

Keepitup: Water is super easy for me. It's all I drink. Florida is so hot that I do not like hot drinks, just some nice cool water. I was addicted to sodas, but quit them several years ago. Those warm drinks usually contain a lot of water though, so they are probably almost as good for you!

No_Defeat_Here: I can't forbid myself to do anything. I have to reward myself for positives. So rather than try to limit my computer time, I reward myself with it. Also, I get up much more frequently. I drink so much water that bathroom runs are frequent, and then I jog in place and stretch a lot... just try to be much more active and before I know it, I'd rather be up and moving than sitting sucked in =) But I do still spend a lot of time on my computer.. Especially when my husband is home since it is "our thing" to do together.

  I am an excessive computer user as well. I do believe that this is one of the reasons why my weight went up over the years. I find myself sucked in so easily. One of my 2012 goals was to follow the rule: "No computer till lunchtime". Of which I have failed most every day so far this week. I aim to keep trying to get back to that rule.

    You are doing so well drinking the water! I struggle with that one big time. I know I need it and I know it's beneficial but I always want something hot to drink during the winter. emoticon
