Really??

Friday, September 21, 2012

I don't know what to say......I need to exercise (it must be true because EVERYBODY says so!) but the truth is I DON'T WANT TO! There I've said it. No excuses, just bald-faced truth. I know - I have a BAAAAAAAAD attitude about this. My spark coach gave me the assignment for today to blog about how I'm going to "overcome" my excuses for not exercising. Guess for right now - I'm not.

It's ok, you're being honest and that's important. I notice if I say to myself, "just 5 min Kelly." And do some sort of exercise thinking I'll only be doing it for 5 min it turns into much more. Good luck:)

I don't know anyone who first started out that said Boy I can't wait to exercise but once you start doing it, it is really fulfilling no one says you have to run out and do an hour of exercise just do it a minute at a time. Start with just walking in place for a minute, then if you can do that and feel like doing more add lifting your arms. When you are tired slow down. It took time to get out of shape it will take time to get back into shape whether you are 100 pds or 500 pds. Once you find your passion you will love it and there will be days that you don't. But you get out of it what you put into it. You just have to look into the mirror and say "I AM WORTH IT". Good luck on your journey. I hope you will give it a shot you never know what you will like until you try it.

Yes, please!

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

I have always been a "yes, please!" kind of person. Would I like to go on an outing? Yes, please! Would I like to see your pictures of your new puppy? Yes, please! Would I like another piece of chocolate cream pie? Yes, please!! So for me dieting was always a time of saying NO to everything - and that wasn't really very fun. But with a SHIFT OF MIND to thinking about being healthy - everything becomes "yes, please" once again! Now my questions are in terms of good health. Do I want maximum energy? Yes, please. Great! Then make sure you get plenty of protein at each meal. And, if you haven't found out yet - getting enough protein cures cravings and ensures fullness until the next time to eat. Would I like great skin and hair? Yes, please! OK!! Then make sure to eat plenty of fruits & veggies and take your fish oil! And do not forget to drink lots and lots of WATER. I can say yes to all these things - and the "no's" just don't seem to fit in there anywhere.

Protein, protein, whose got the protein?

Friday, September 14, 2012

So I've been doing the research and the consensus seems to be that, for women, 75 - 90 g of protein a day is called for - depending on if one is exercising or not. THAT is a lot of protein! I really really tried to eat as much protein as possible within my calorie budget, etc. and only got to 53 g! I suspect I've spent most of my life eating about 20-25 g per day. So.....this leads me to the conclusion that protein drinks/shakes are definitely in my future. One interesting side note is that the body can only use 30 g of protein in a sitting - so that 50 g protein bar? According to my research 20 g of that protein will be stored as........you guessed it.........FAT. Of course, I also found that if you look long and hard enough you can find research to support anything you want to. But for me......I guess I'll go buy a blender.

Getting enough protein is important. If I don't get at least 90 to 100 grams a day I start to get what I call the beast. It's an unstoppable urge to eat. If I get the proein, I don't get that. I drink a protein drink every morning. I get it at Costco. It has 30 grams of protein and only 160 calories. Some protein drinks have a lot of sugar, so you really have to read the labels.

You know what's EASY??

Saturday, September 01, 2012

Being fit. Yep. Easy. It's hard to GET fit and hard to STAY fit......but being fit? Very easy!

You know what is HARD?? Being fat. Yep. Hard. It's easy to GET fat and easy to STAY fat.....but being fat? Very hard!

My choice? I can do nothing (=easy) and stay FAT (=hard) or I can do something (=hard) and be FIT (=easy).

So I'm lazy and I don't like hard......only guess what? There is no way to avoid hard - hard is just plain unavoidable. So I made a list. One side had what is hard about getting/staying FIT and the other side had what is hard about being FAT. Which list was the longest? The being FAT list most definitely!! For me - the HARDEST choice is to be FAT - so guess I'll take the EASY way out and become FIT!
