A Great Weigh-in

I finally kicked it back into gear. It looks like I've found the balance for my long runs and my weight loss. This weekend I ate some shot bloks while I ran my 10.68 miles and I ate a healthy lunch and dinner. On Sunday we went out to lunch and I still tracked everything I ate and came in under my total weekly points allowance. I'm off to a pretty good start for this week as well and hope to pass the 25 pounds gone mark at Monday's meeting.

I was scheduled for a 4 mile run yesterday but I skipped it, I didn't really have an excuse I just didn't do it and now I am scheduled for a 6 mile run tomorrow and my husband won't be able to go and the forecast is calling for rain. I really need to just do it. I know I'll feel better if I do and I know that it will make Saturday's 12 mile training run go much smoother but this weekday runs can really be a challenge.

On Thursday I'll be tested by a trip to Disneyland with a friend. It will be tough but I plan to stay strong and bring some healthy snacks with me to the park along with my trusty water bottle.

I'll check back in next week with a report on how I handled the week and how the 12 mile run went.

  


Weigh-in & Finding Balance with Training/Weight Loss

Let's start with the numbers this week:
Starting weight: 212.6
Last week (1/24): 189.6
Today's (2/7) weight: 190.2
Weight lost: +0.6
Total Change: -22.4

I haven't posted in a couple of weeks but last week (1/31) I gained 3 pounds at my weekly weigh-in. This week I was back down but not as much as I would have liked. I'm a little frustrated by going up and down, up and down gaining and losing the same few pounds over and over again.

I'm going to try very hard to focus on staying within my points range this week. It's going to be very difficult since I'm sick and unable to run, I missed my 3 mile on Monday, a 5 mile yesterday and a 5 mile today. Saturday I'm scheduled for a 10 miler and I'm hoping that I'll at least be able to do 7 miles. We'll see how it goes. I'm feeling a little better today so I'm optimistic.

I think one of the problems that I'm having with this weight loss/gain cycle has to do with my training. I'm having a difficult time balancing my nutritional needs for training for the half marathon with my nutritional needs to lose weight. I need carbs to fuel my long runs but I need to create a calorie deficit to lose weight. It's very difficult. I'm hoping to get this straightened out before too long and I may put off the full marathon for a little while after the half so that I can focus on losing the weight and then ramping up my training. So, I'm thinking 4 short runs a week after the half at the end of March until I get to at least 170 and then start increasing the mileage and focusing on training.

We'll see how this plan works out. I'm hoping that it will do the trick.

This morning I also decided to take my measurements which apparently I hadn't done since May of 2009! I've lost 5 inches off my waist, 7 inches off my chest and 7 inches off of my hips! Now that's what I call progress.

You'll notice that my weight pretty much stayed the same this week and I think that's because of my long run on Saturday. I ended up using most of my extra activity points that I earned Saturday for lunch on Sunday so it should be interesting to see what my home scale says tomorrow.

Now for the really fun part of this post: The Awesomeness of a Great Running Club!

When I joined the running club I was a little nervous that I'd be the slowest runner out there or that I wouldn't be able to handle the distance. However, I stuck with it and got out there at 7am this Saturday for a 7 mile run. And it was good. I found a couple of ladies that run at a similar pace to me and I found out that I'm actually one of the more experienced runners since I'm working on my 4th half marathon. I can't believe I just said that! I'm training for my FOURTH half marathon! That's crazy.

Anyway, the first 2 miles of the run were uphill which kind of sucked until I realized that the last 2 miles would be downhill as a result. I like that! I did all 7 miles without walking and felt great at the end. My right hamstring was a little sore but I wasn't too worried. I came home stretched, iced and took some ibuprofen. I then proceeded to lay on the couch all day and catch up on my Hulu :)

This morning I was scheduled for a 3 mile run so the hubs and I headed out but going up the hill around mile 1 I felt a sharp stabbing pain in my right hammie. Uh-oh. The hubs walked back with me where I did 30 minutes of stretching and some more ibuprofen I was able to walk without pain. After my WW meeting I headed back to the running store because I suspected it was time for some new shoes. Yep, it was time. Hopefully the new shoes and a day of rest tomorrow will get my training back on track.

This week I'm going to stick with my training and tracking my food and hope to see a loss next week. I'd love to get my 25 pound key chain charm this month :)

Hi there! I'm back with an update. It's been a busy start to the semester which explains my silence this last week and a half.

Here are my weekly weigh-ins:
Starting weight: 212.6
Last week: 191.4
Today's (1/10) weight: 193.0
Weight lost: +1.6
Total Change: -19.6

Starting weight: 212.6
Last week: 193.0
Today's (1/17) weight: 189.4
Weight lost: -3.6
Total Change: -23.2

So, you can see that for the first week of January my weight went up. Basically I lost and then regained the same 2 pounds a couple of times. It didn't really bother me because it was TOM and I knew that I had followed the plan but was extremely bloated. I'm glad that I didn't get frustrated and revert back to old habits. Instead I kept chugging along and tracked everything I ate including the meals at Disneyland and all of the eating out that we did with my in-laws here. And you know what happened? I was rewarded with a nice 3.6 pound loss which put me under the 190 mark for the first time since I began going to weekly WW meetings. Now, I've been under 190 on my home scale for awhile but my clothes weigh about 2-4 pounds depending on what I wear, I try to wear the same thing so as not to mess with the accuracy of the measurements :)

All in all it was a good weigh in and more importantly I feel great. On Saturday I ran my first race of the year, a nice little 5k to get my year going. The next race on my schedule is a half marathon on March 26th. I decided that like weight loss I need some accountability to get me training. So, I joined a training group and now have a weekly schedule to follow and a group to run with for my long runs. This week I ran 4 miles on the tread mill yesterday and then today I did 4 miles outside. My pace was a lot slower today but I think most of that is due to the hills and headwinds that were added. I feel great and am looking forward to my 7 mile long run with the training group on Saturday morning. I really think this will be my best race yet!

    Fantastic!! I'm excited for you! I have one more run in C25K and I will ne running a 5K or three this spring. I can't wait! Good luck on Saturday with your training group! I'm sure it will be a great run!

Weekly Weigh-in Success!

After only three days back on plan after the holidays and vacation in Vegas I am proud to report that I am back down to my pre-Christmas weight! I was even wearing jeans when I went to my regular Monday meeting this morning and still down two pounds. It just goes to show that those two pounds were mostly water weight from high sodium and I'm very glad that I didn't get frustrated and give up when the scale went up.

At my Weight Watchers meeting today I was beginning to get a little frustrated as we yet again talked about the new program. I felt pretty bad for the newbies because a lot of the people who have been there awhile were complaining about how they didn't like the program. It was just frustrating so I sat in the back and just kept my mouth shut. It's easier for me to make the change because I've only been at it for a few months and I have no problem with technology. Yes, I was frustrated at first having to learn new points values for everything but I've adjusted and done very well on the new program. I really hope that everyone can figure out what they need to do to be successful so that we can learn something at the meetings rather than have it turn it to a complaining session!

I still love my leader and the ladies who weigh me in and I don't plan to stop going to the meetings but I sure hope next weeks topic is something a little different!
