7 Weeks after surgery! Exercise and Strength Training Woo Hoo!

Sunday, May 05, 2013

I went to the Doctor last Tuesday. He finally released me from all restrictions regarding exercise and strength training. I have to say that my stomach is still numb so I don't feel things when I lean against them such as sinks or when my personal trainer is helping me stretch and leans against my hip bone I didn't even know he was leaning into me. It was just plain weird. Anyway, I decided to invest in me and hired a personal trainer to help come up with a plan while I am in Montana visiting my other sister. I especially need help with my upper body strength training. A few years ago I had a problem in my shoulder area. I lack flexibility. Hey I knew I needed help when I am applying makeup with my right hand and have to take my left and just ever so slightly need to guide my right arm to the right area. So he said I need to gain flexibility before strength. Or something like that. All I know for sure is that I will take my notebook with me. I already told my sister Julie that she would have to help me with some of those strength exercises. I am not too worried about cardio. So this week I meet with PT 4 days in a row. One day is upper the next lower.

Day 17 After Surgery

Thursday, April 04, 2013

I went to the Doctor on Tuesday. He said I was coming along nicely. My legs are still swollen up. I finally got over to Walgreens and got a pair of Teds. Hopefully that will help. The doctor did say this is normal and if I wanted to get some Teds I could but he didn't think it was necessary. I have been walking gradually since Saturday. I started out going around one block then Sunday 3 blocks Monday 1.17 miles Tuesday a day of rest Wednesday and Thursday 2.37 miles. I have to admit I hurt on Wed. when I got home. So today I made sure I took two Tylenol about 45 min. before leaving the house. It did the trick. So with my new mindset I am giving 100% to my program under the circumstances. I can not compare myself to my old self before my surgery on March 18th. Sooooo, I can only get better day by day. I know this may not make sense to anyone else reading this but I feel soo much better. If I hadn't read ON_2 Victory's (sp) blog recently I may have let guilt eat at me and then where would I have been. Not in a very good place. Woo Hoo to me! One step at a time.

Great mindset! You need to heal at your own pace and, most importantly, listen to your body!

Day 13 After Surgery

Sunday, March 31, 2013

I know by now you are getting tired of hearing from me. Well, I just wanted to say I went to Church last night for the Easter Vigil and made it through 2.5 hrs. I did take my cushion with me but I found I was able to stand up, sit down without any problem. Just before communion I did try to kneel and had no problem it just came so naturally. Of course I have to say thank goodness I have strong legs so I didn't need to put any effort into getting up or down. Woo Hoo for me!

Day 12 After Surgery

Saturday, March 30, 2013

I'm still going strong and I still have to give my sister Thoms1 so much credit for my recovery. She's a keeper for sure. I have been dressing myself, no easy feat when you can't bend over. But with the help of those reacher thingys and my old faithful wooden back scratcher I can drag my pants up my leg within acceptable reach. Of course I wear pretty much the same thing every day. But at least I don't look like an invalid.
Today Becky suggested we go for a very short walk around the block to see how I would do. I said yes right away but inside I was thinking but it's cold out there. I have to say that I have been running a bit cold since the surgery. I am sure there is some explanation for it but I am still cold. I will be going to Easter Vigil Lights Mass this evening. The first time I am going back to church since the surgery. I look forward to it but I won't be getting up and down a lot tonight. I am taking a cushion with me, I know it will be almost two hours long I wish I could dress up for it but I just can't. My feet and ankles are still swollen so I am hoping I can fit me feet into something other than my old red winter clogs. I wish all a very happy Easter!

Day 8 After Surgery

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

I went for my 2nd post-op doctor's visit this morning. He removed the two drains and all but two staples. There were a lot of staples! Almost each one was like getting a bee sting. My nephew said that was how his staples being removed felt and I do agree with him. Especially my left inner thigh. That was so touchy! He swiped the area and then put body glue on me. That always makes me smile. I have used super glue on cracks on my fingers but I just never thought they would use it to hold me together! Unreal! So the doc is happy with how I am doing and reminded me that I have just had major surgery and need to keep that in mind and take it easy. My body needs to heal.
I was on my team Plastic surgery after major weight loss and on the general team discussion forum Lisa Haupert has a thread and in her introduction she has a link to her youtube videos. I watched three of them with interest and if anyone is really interested in having this surgery done they should check it out. Here is the link:

I'm so happy that your Dr. is so happy! I know that you'll take it easy too, like your Dr. said. Good girl! Brave girl! Determined girl and an inspiring girl! Thanks again for that! emoticon emoticon
