Our lab Missy is quite hard on dog toys. I would often remark she'd make a great toy tester as she grew up. In fact, the reason we have cats is related to this (I happened across "da boys" up for adoption when I was making an umpteen millionth run to the pet store for dog toys).
It has become our habit after lunch to go out and play her favorite game (fetch, of course!) and we use an oversize, industrial strength tennis ball called a Giant Tuff Ball. It is about the size of a softball. This little bit of extra exercise was good for both our girlish-wannabee figures.
But they do wear out and she eventually breaks them when she bites down too hard and punctures it. It usually happens when, instead of throwing the ball, I bounce it hard and high on the patio pavers and she happens to catch it on the first return. She gets all excited for catching it and chomps down. Once punctured, it's only a matter of time before it splits. Anyone with a good idea where to recycle the broken ones?
Sadly, she broke the last one while the local stores were out. She can't seem to manage a Frisbee. We tried regular tennis balls and all I can say is pfffft!
It's been rough waiting while the balls are on backorder.
Sometimes she was so persistent after lunch, I would take her in the backyard and watch her gallop around while searching all over since we are known to sometimes play a little hide 'n seek with the ball. At least she was getting a bit of a romp ... but I would end up feeling guilty fooling her like that, lol, so I couldn't do it very often.
I finally gave up waiting on the local stores and bought some online.
Yesterday our lovely UPS man brought Missy a fresh supply and it's a good thing too. Both our waistlines were about to reflect us being sidelined for so long.
