WOW! My last blog was in September, 2013. Time to get back on track.
I have been sick with colds on and off since my last blog. I believe it is the weather here in the Carolina's. It can be in the 70's one day and the next day in the 20's. I certainly miss my FL weather. Temps are mostly the same all year round except about now. I saw the temps were down around 30 degrees. Well, it appears I am sick again.
I have been enjoying a much needed restful weekend.
I took an off day from fitness yesterday and my husband cooked.
It was sweet of him but I think I better take over. My mother and I have dietary
needs, she is diabetic and I have food allergies. When I was working and he was cooking I gained over 50 pounds within a year. He is a bread and pasta person, which I can not eat. Food allergies, bloat and weight gain. I am more low carb, (healthy carbs and non processed foods and he is low fat, quick and easy processed meals.
I love my fresh fruit and veggies. It is the thought that counts, but after almost 30 years of marriage, I have learned I need to keep control in the kitchen. I don't want to gain back all that weight. It has taken over a year just to loose 25 lbs. It's amazing how easy it is to put it on and not in loosing..

Last week I was complaining about this past Winter being so cold and being cooped up inside for many months, well now this week the temps have been climbing to the mid 80's and may even get close to 90 degrees North of us in DC. Last week we had freezing temps with possible sleet... Go figure??? What happened to Spring??? I guess there is no such thing around this part of the country....
I am a FL Gal who moved to NC to care for my elder mother. I have been going through many adjustments being in a new area of the Country and also a 24/7 caregiver. I was so spoiled by living a mile from Tampa Bay and only 20 minutes from the Beaches. I could just walk out my door and go for a beautiful scenic early morning run along the Bay anytime of the day and feel safe. I guess that's where my old town got it's name, Safety Harbor. I knew just about everyone out there and picked up runners along the way. The people at the Safety Harbor Spa knew me quite well too, since I always stopped inside for a water break etc....
Since being cooped up this winter, I started getting serious with Spark People once again around Thanksgiving recording my meals in the Food Tracker, my weight and measurements and also my workouts in the Fitness Tracker. I joined many challenges that are very helpful in my daily workout routines and every now and then, weather permitting would get outside for a walk /run. About 2 years ago, I was running up to 18 miles for my long run training for long Distance before I had an operation. This was two years ago, so I should be able to start up a running routine again... But being away from it for so long has made it hard to get back to.. Funny thing is, I love running and am very competitive. It just is not the same though, since my Sunshine Running Buds are not here. I just got so use to running with my group of friends always in training. I am so restricted now because I just can't get out and be gone for so long away from my mother. She is wheel chair bound and can't get around like she could when I first came up here. I saw an article about a man who runs the Boston Marathon every year and has a disabled adult son that he takes out in a special wheel chair made almost like a jogging stroller. I think this would be a great idea if I could ever find something like this. I have taken my mother out for walks but the wheel chair does not have great shocks on the wheels so it makes her ride slightly bumpy.
Today's plan is to do a few of my in door work outs in Hawaii, makes me feel at home being on the beach with Palm Trees and finishing up Coach Nichole's Challenge Jump into Spring. I also have been doing her Rise and Shine Challenge, which I most definitely am an Early Bird Early Riser.
Thank You Spark People! Even being cooped up this Winter I have manged to loose 17 pounds so far and it is because of this program, support from my Spark Friends and many Spark Challenges.
