Well on my way to work last Wednesday I dropped my son off at school. I then proceeded to drive myself to work. I was at the stoplight when my gaslight went on telling me to fill up. I was right beside Shell @ Beaconhill. It was stupid busy and figured I'd go to Esso across the way . Well that didn't happen. A minute later my engine light went on, then started to blink. The car shuddered and died. Oh no! With all the school/work traffice right on Beaconhill Drive this sucked! Mind I mention that my car is a 2006 VW Passat. This is NOT supposed to happen to me! (The van died twice on me this past winter too. Once from the power steering hose breaking, and the other the alternator dies while I was driving with the kids by myself). So I put my hazard lights on. Mind you I am battling the tears, obviously I'm going to be late for work! Arg!!
So I call my husband to come rescue me. He said he's going to be a few minutes. So these nice 2 men prob late 40s come and rescue me! Yeah there is nice people in Fort McMurray! So I put the car in neutral, and they are pushing me up the slight hill to push me over to the side street by Shell. And I wait for my husband. Mind you does anyone know how hard it is to steer a car in neutral? LOL Holy crow its hard! So my husband comes and by now I am absolutely frezing. It was -5 that morning. So we call VW Roadside assistance, seems that it expired last year. So now, I call AMA up to tow us. They said it would be an hour, well it actually took close to 3 hours to show up. Got it downtown to a shop that we know what will work on a VW. They hook it up. Looks like the gasket leaked into the spark plugs which fried the coil emissions (which were replaced 2 months ago!) so..its still at the shop I get my husband to drop me off to work every day. We got an estimate to get it fixed. If done in town will be 3 grand +. If we get it towed to Edmonton, which we have to pay for the tow, will be covered by warranty. We're thinking we are planning on trading in the car for a new one. We paid cash for it a couple years ago and new is the way to go! We're going down on the Long weekend. Wish me luck!
